Kita is a very new vampire, but she is not new to the paranormal world. She has been able to shift into a calico cat her entire life, that is until Nathaniel bit her a few weeks ago and now she is stuck in human form as a vampire. Nathaniel has become her friend, if not maybe more, as is discovered in this book. Kita is not one to always follow the rules and she thinks drinking from humans is pretty gross, however her animal diet is just not cutting it.

A much, much, much better read than book one. The mystery was better, the characterisation of Kita and Nathaniel (aka The Hermit) was better and focused on more, the plot twists, turns and drama were all really good and the sexual tension has me bouncing up and down waiting for the next book.

I like slow developers. I like to be teased and tantalised by the mere possibility of a love connection over several books. Insta-love has its place when I'm in the mood for it, but those are not the pairing
Better. 3.5.
Is Tatius channeling Eric to anyone else, in a way?
Will read the 3rd one,if only for hopes of seeing more of a certain neon-haired, multiple-pierced, leather-and-mesh-clad ancient vampire. Ahem.
Still bored to death by the Kita-Nathaniel pairing. I also don't like Nathaniel.Brooding, lonesome vamps belong in YA novels, where they can shine in all their fairy-tale glory.(no,I actually mean that as a good thing.Really.) But here,I just kept going "Gah!Get over yourself already and quit w

A little more interesting that the first book, but it still isn't really grabbing me. I would love to know more about Kita at this point--her power, her history, her fears, her emotions, etc--and I just don't feel that I really do. Not sure if I'm going to check out the rest of the series.

I am just loving this series! You know you truly love a book when you want to read it again and I've already started reading this book a second time."Twice Dead" takes Kita and Nathaniel into the arms of the vampire council. Tituis wants their presence to introduce them to another powerful vampire known as the Collector. She collects people with unusual skills and looks. When Kita discovers one of the Collectors' people decapitated, she is forced to reveal what she knows and in doing so she is n ...more

Kita is clearly in a more vulnerable state in Twice Dead. Our Calico shape-shifter turned undead is now more in demand than ever, and I don't mean that as a good thing. No. Kita is being stalked, wooed, wants to be collected, killed, you name it. A necromancer, a skin walker, the collector- a powerful vampire, to name a few. Besides that awful predicament... Am I awful for being thrilled that The vampire king Tatius is out to get Kita away from Nathanial? Will you blame me if I find Tatius amus ...more
I instantly fell in love with Once Bitten, and it was one of the first I ever read on my (now not-so) new Kindle. Twice Dead is a deliciously dark paranormal adventure that is just as entertaining as the first and has more depth. The characters are more fleshed out and you learn more about the different species of supernatural. Kita is still her spunky self, but her attitude is slightly toned down and less flaky. That still doesn't keep her from questioning everything.

Price does a wonderful job

First off, I have to admit that this took me four months to read. Part of it was that it was an ebook, so I couldn't read it for long spans of time. Even if I had been able to, I don't think I would have wanted to. I was very unimpressed with this book. There was very little character growth and even less world building.

Main character Kita is originally a shapeshifter who turns into a small cat, but in some vaguely described incident that occurred in the first book, she is now also a vampire. A
I read Once Bitten and thought that while it was a promising concept, there were far too many issues - with the plot, characters, and technical writing aspects - for me to like. I almost didn't bother with Twice Dead because of it. I would've missed out on a fantastic, gritty, dark AU fantasy if I hadn't. I can't remember ever reading such a huge improvement between a first and second book in a series, but I'm thrilled that I have now.

Twice Dead is the second book in the Haven Series. In the first installment we met Kita the half Werecat / half Vampire and her band of misfit "friends" and followed them in search of a rouge shifter. This time around we witness Kita being torn between two master vampires battling to control her, Kita searching for more humans she may have accidentally turned into shifters, a murderer framing Kita and an odd zombie/necromancer/ghost...thing....just to name a few.

My four-sentence or less take on the plot: Kita ran away from her pack (or whatever a group of cats is called) a long time ago because of...reasons...but somehow also manages to get bitten by a vampire, becoming a vampire cat. There is also a love triangle, more or less. This book involves vampire politics, so if you find that annoying, avoid this book.

Rating: 7

What worked: Kita got less annoying in this book as she started to make better choices. It's extremely well-written IMO, which helps a l
For the record, I am going to say that I have not read the first book in this series. I got Twice Dead as a freebie on Amazon. Kaylana Price has an ability to make something that has been written about time and again seem fresh and new again. The idea of a shifter, turned into a vampire, is one that meshes the two genres of horror into something dysfunctional yet perfect in the same breath. I liked the tension that accumulated within the novel regarding Kita and her struggles with the shifter pa ...more
This sequel definitely felt more at ease with the world that Price creates. Kita the were-vampire and her crew take on a series of challenges as she tries to figure out how to exist in her new undead form. She also takes on someof the older elite leaders in the vampire underground.

I liked it and have actually reread it once already. I'm a big fan of the Grave Witch series and have been waiting for book 4. I hesitated to read these two books because I'm currently suffering from vampire exhaustion
Book 2 of the Haven series.

Kita Nekai is a newly-made vampire shapeshifter - the first of her kind. But her vampire sire, Nathaniel, is in a power struggle with the master of the city and Kita has become a pawn in the game. When a visiting master vampire visits, bodies begin to pile up and all signs begin to point to Kita. So Kita needs to learn how to be a vampire, clear her name, and avoid the master of Haven all at the same time.

I really like the characters in this series. They are very engag
4.0 out of 5 stars The series should be named the evolution of Kita., January 25, 2011

After reading book one "Once Bitten" in this series I was determined not to waste my money again. I had no plans to read book two "Twice Dead". I put the disastrous first book out of my mind and went back to my already purchased kindle e books thinking I may have an author that didn't make my auto buy list but is good enough to read as in-between. I noticed one of my newest auto buys' (" Alex Craft" series) aut
This another convoluted plot. There’s decapitated bodies and heads that don’t match. Time jumps. Intense vampire diplomacy and all their complicated rules. The shifter problem. And Gil’s void tricks. They all add more craziness to Kita’s already bizarre life.

Kita is developing some very useful talents, but they don’t seem to be appreciated or else they’d treat her better.

The relationship between Kita and Nathanial/Tatius reminds me of Sookie and Bill/Eric in True Blood. I wish she’d just fac
It's been a while since I've been so charmed by a bloody good mystery. Kita, a shapeshifter on the run in the mortal world, Nathaniel, a vampire with an aversion to politics, and Gil, a scholar mage in training, wind up in one of those accident prone moments that only get more complicated as they try to get themselves out of trouble.

Nathaniel has been ordered to bring Kita to meet the vampire king of the city, Tatius. What they don't know is that the Collector is in town, a very old and powerfu
Kita is in major trouble. She has been turned by Nathanial who cares for her deeply. She can't shapeshift anymore, apparently being a vampire is enough for one body to handle. (And she was such a cute little kitten!!) Her friend Gil, magic student extraordinaire, keeps popping in and out of the atmosphere and Bobby, a shapeshifter friend wants to be much more. What's a girl to do?

Although the events of Twice Dead take place very shortly after those of the first book, Once Bitten, it has been about a year and a half since I read the first book which means I have forgotten a lot of the details. Price does give the reader reminders of the main events of the first book but I still started out a bit confused until I reoriented myself with the world and Kita and Nathanial's situation.

Twice Dead is every bit as complicated as Once Bitten with multiple story lines pulling Kita i
“Twice Dead” by Kalayna Price is the second book of the Have series and it’s about Kita, a shape-shifter turned vampire!
The second book is even more fast paced than the first with lot of action and new characters. Kita’s only wish is to be left alone and not become a part of vampires’ political schemes. But, this isn’t going to happen anytime soon. She finds herself again in the wrong place the wrong time and then all hell breaks loose!

Second book in the Haven Series. This is a reread for me. Yes, I enjoyed it more the second time around.

Kita is in trouble again. She is summoned by the Council to attend a vampire party in honor of a visiting master vampire, the Collector. One of her humans is murdered and Kita is the one who discovers the body. This makes her the center of the attention and a suspect. The truth seeker confirms she was not the murderer. But, when more dead headless bodies start appearing this starts a vampire po

efore I read Twice Dead I thought this was a writer to keep an eye on, now that I’ve read the second novel, my belief has only strengthened.

While the first novel was definitely enjoyable, the second novel was a big improvement. Price dove deeper into the unique paranormal world she created in Once Bitten and the character development continued at a good pace. I saw a nice twist in Price’s writing from the first to the second book. Kudos to her!

There are some books in the world that are simply beyond words - a rare gem. Being an avid reader, I can say that, although I have started to give out five stars more frequently, not all of them have captured me as intensely as Kalayna Price does with her books.

This author has managed to keep me enthralled, engaged and desperate for her books. Her story lines are amazing, her characters are amazing, albeit some flaws presented in them. But really guys, if we wanted to read about flawless, perfec

Jessica (a GREAT read)
Finished Twice Dead by Kalayna Price today and it was just as exciting as the first one!! I truly didn't know what to expect besides what the BOC described and was thrilled to see more returning characters, such as Bobby and Gil.

There were also a few new characters as well that played into the vampire murder mystery aspect which was done very well. I so didn't guess who the villain was, although I had some suspects and an inkingly of the real killer at one point, but still never made it my fina
After reading Once Bitten, by Kalayna Price, I couldn't wait to pick up this next one in the Haven series. I wasn't disappointed. In fact, I found this book to much better than the first.

The story twists and turns on every page. There is no lack of action, no slow-moving points in the entire 256 pages. I love the characters and how well-rounded they are. Even minor characters have depth. And the way the author intertwines all tho different aspects of the supernatural world is seamless.

Twice Dead is the second book in the Haven series, and it has upped the ante on this series with a suspenseful storyline filled with many “seat on the edge of your seat” moments. The plot moved at an exciting but much smoother pace and a lot more was explored in the vampire realm along with a healthy dose of mage magic thrown in.

Kita is only several weeks into her new life as a vampire, trying to adjust to it and the fact that she may not be able to shift anymore. If that isn’t stressful enough,
In life there are those small little coffee shops that have the best pastries in town and know how to make a mean mocha. Well, Kalayna Price's writing is the equivalent of that.

Her plots are original, fresh, and just plain awesome.

The story opens with Kita literally stumbling across a body who has been decapitated. Apparently it was a human of a visiting vampire known as the Collector (one guess as to why she's named that); she leaves the city when one of her own vampires gets a case of headle

“Elizabeth's fingers slipped around my arm. She stepped forward, her fangs flashing. My breath caught, but not in fear.
Damn Tiffany and her vampire-bite addiction. I shoved the reaction away just in time for Elizabeth's fangs to break skin.
Warmth rushed up my arm, the blaze filling my body, my mind. On my other side, Tatius's hand on my arm was like a cool oasis. I groped for his fingers, locking mine around his, pressing the long side of my body along his, and the fire in my body calmed enough I could still see, still think.
