Fantastic Four Visionaries - John Byrne, Vol. 1 (Fantastic Four Visionaries)
by
John Byrne
It was the world's greatest comic magazine. Again. Not since the days of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the trailblazers of the very mythology known as the Marvel Universe, had someone so perfectly captured the intense mood, cosmic style, and classic sense of adventure of Marvel's first family of heroes - the Fantastic Four. Writer. Penciler. Inker. Visionary. John Byrne reminde...more

I had fonder memories of the early days of Byrne's FF run.
What's really hard to believe is that the 20th anniversary of the FF was celebrated as part of the issues that are collected in this book. As opposed to the 50th anniversary that is being celebrated this month. I must be old because a lot more time passed since Byrne left the book that passed between the Lee/Kirby era and the Byrne era.

Good book. This is the beginning of one of the most highly regarded runs on Fantastic Four (for many people, Byrne's run is second only to Stan and Jack's run). As this is the first 8 or 9 issues of his run, Byrne is still getting a feel for the characters. The highlight of the book is the story taking place in "Liddleville". Definitely recommended if you have any interest in the Fantastic Four.
John Byrne is a fantastic storyteller (pun intended). This is the FF I grew up on; this is how they should look and behave. The workings of the characters and their family relationship shine brightly here. Though, I'm not sure I like Byrne's drawings of children and their speech.
Thor is awesome. He gets a lot of page time in this book and it's all the better for it. And Reed is in top form here.
The excellent beginnings of the best run on the Fantastic Four this side of Lee and Kirby.
Great beginning of a great run by Byrne
Some of the best stories since Stan and Jack. Byrne is one of the few people that 'gets' the FF.
Great stories that go back and forth from super hero to sci-fi and back again.
He does a nice job of making each character distinct and giving them each a turn in the spotlight. Not to mention breathing life into some of the old bad guys that had been considered silly and boring.

In starting his run, John Byrne did a couple smaller stories, either in tone or in length, which makes it all the more noticeable when he just kicks loose and goes all big and cosmic.
Brilliant stuff, where he has captured the voice of every character and really understands how the FF's world works.
The best run on Fantastic Four since Stan and Jack.

The best run on Fantastic Four since Stan and Jack.
Lots of nice little stories. Including a really touching one involving the puppet master. Emotionally engaging and character driven, this is good Fantastic Four.
nothing to learn from this book whatsoever! :)
A fun rainy day collection of John Byrne's run on the FF in the 80's.
He brought back the fun and wonderment from the Lee/Kirby era, and went back to basics. This set of books, is considered to be some of the best Fantastic Four stories since the aformentioned Lee and Kirby!
