Kiss an Angel was my first Susan Elizabeth Phillips book and it may be my last. I am usually pretty easy to please when it comes to what I choose to read. I don’t often dislike books that I read. Further, I really hate it when a book rubs me the wrong way. Alas, that is what happened with this book. I did not connect with either the hero or the heroine and I came away from reading the story not liking either character very much. I realize that I am in the minority when it comes to my opinion reg More...

Do you know that feeling when you have just finished a book you adored but you just can't figure out how to express that on your review? Well that's exactly what happened to me but I'll do my best to try to explain it to you all.

This was my favorite book from this author, I even liked it more than the Chicago stars series and I already had adored that series, I gave 5 stars to most of the books in it. But it was so different this time. I couldn't put the book down, that's how FREAKING amazing it More...

4 1/2 Fun time Stars!! I didn't just love this book; I'm in love with it!!

Admittedly when I started to read this I thought this was not going to work for me. Boy was I ever wrong!!! Even with the over-the-top unrealistic circumstances that surrounded the characters, this book STOLE MY HEART!! Daisy, oh my goodness, talk about wearing your heart on your sleeve, she did everything… everything out of love!! She was one of the sweetest, kindest, most determined More...

KISS AN ANGEL is a beautiful love story that revolves around two broken & lone souls, both vulnerable and lost in their own ways...

honestly speaking, this book surprised me in more ways than one...i mean with its chic-lite cover, and subtle plot with normal summary..i had absolutely no idea what how emotional this book really was until i way halfway to its end....

the characters in the book seemed so strong,i couldn't help but admire More...

To sum it up: Pretty, flighty Daisy Devreaux can either go to jail or marry the mystery man her father has chosen for her. Arranged marriages don't happen in the modern world, so how did the irrepressible Daisy find herself in this fix? ...Alex Markov, as humorless as he is deadly handsome, has no intention of playing the loving bridegroom to a spoiled little featherhead with champagne tastes. He drags Daisy form her uptown life to a broken down traveling circus and sets out to tame her to his w More...

I finished this book late last night because:

a) I couldn't put it down, and
b) I had to see if Alex would finally redeem himself after being such a selfish shit!

... needless to say that all is well in the land of HEA's, and I was finally able to sleep after a rather gut-wretching, nerve-wracking, nail-biting reading experience...*yay*.. just the type of book I needed to read!

I don't think the author could have written a more despicable, cold, and hateful character. Alex Markov was so wrapped up More...

After reading Susan Elizabeth Phillips’ book “It Had to Be You,” I just had to pick up another book from Susan Elizabeth Phillips! The next book I ended up picking up from her was “Kiss An Angel” and after hearing so many good reviews on this book, I just had to give this book a shot! Oh my goodness, I was definitely blown away by this fantastic romance novel that will make me view the circus as a magical adventure of a lifetime!

Who knew that a story involving a scowling Russian, a circus, a tiger, an elephant, and a well-intentioned, if a little hapless heroine would equal one of the best contemporary romances I've ever read?

Why is it so good?

1. The characters. Daisy is guileless, genuine, sweet and full of heart. It is a great pleasure to watch her grow and evolve, to discover her meddle, her steel - To watch her self-esteem grow with each obstacle she overcomes. Sometimes it is just about getting the chance to prov More...

This was a very good book, writing was excellent as usual with this author. It was a 5 stars until the hero said he'd buy her the ticket back and went on making it hard so the heroine would leave. At this stage in the book I expected the hero to have at least a tiny bit of feelings. And although the resolution was apropriate within the plot, I just didn't like it. I gave it 4 stars because the story kept me glued till the end.

Holy cow. That was good. Really good. I went through tons of emotions reading this and even shed some tears. Both Daisy and Alex took some time for me to like. Daisy seemed pretty naive and tad needy. Alex was a jerk and stubborn to boot. But as the story went on, each of them slowly began to change. They provoked each other, chipping away at each other's flaws. By the end of the story, you wanted nothing more than their HEA. I LOVED it!

However, there were some parts of the book that More...

Contemporary romances are a fairly new genre for me but the few that i've read i have loved and this one was no exception! For some reason i went into this book thinking it was going to be somewhat historical because it was about an arranged marriage and circus life...much to my surprise it was very much set in modern day times! It started off a little bit weird..because of the whole arranged marriage thing...but i was eventually sucked in and i ended up loving the story. The daily grind of the More...

Wow, Wow and Wow!! I loooovvveeee this book!
This is exactly the kind of book that I dream so much...
As my 2nd book of SEP, after "Match me if you can", its far far better.
Funny (I Laugh a Lot!), intrigue premise of 6 months married in convenience, witty very witty dialogue.

I just say this is my fav Theme "Hate-turn-Love"... with a Cold, very Cold, mean, humorless, bad-tempered Hero, Alexander Markov is one of my best Hero (Oh! and he is also Russian! So Sexy)...and with Heroine who has so much More...

5++++ Stars Contemporary Romance

This is the third time I have read this book, and I would have to say that the story of Alex and Daisy never gets old. Its a beautiful love story with a strong cast of characters, each playing a vital role to make this story a worthwhile read.

Alex Markov was rescued by Daisy’s father Max when he was twelve years old from the constant physical abuse he was facing under his uncle Sergey. Max had bought Alex from his uncle and seen to his education. Alex had shaped More...

Daisy, a woman everyone takes to be a spoiled brat, marries a man her father picks out for her. It's either six months of marriage or jail and she picks the man.

The man in question is Alex Markov, a man raised as a circus performer, though he's moved on. He takes on a wife to repay the debt he feels he owes to the woman's father. He intends to give her a crash course in reality by taking her with him as a worker in the circus with which he occassionally performs.

Daisy has a few lessons in store More...

Cute and fun story about a ditzy girl being forced by her dad to marry a circus performer (it's not that simple, of course). I actually thought the H's act was pretty hot (whips!). The h came from a priviledged background, so there was the comedy of watching her adjust. Although she was ditzy, she wasn't really dumb...definitely likable. There were some scenes that stretched the imagination but the story wouldn't have been the same without them. There's an evil OW and lots of angst thrown in, es More...

Wow Oh Wow. Such a great read. I got half way through the book and so much had happened by that point I couldn't believe i had another 200pages to go. The last few chapters made me cry like a baby. I loved this story so much and Daisy was just so amazing. I wasn't a huge fan of Mr. Markov until the last half of the book. he just didn't seem good enough for Daisy. getting to know his background helped me understand him better and at that point I started liking him. I LOVED LOVED LOVED the animals More...

I'm glad I gave Susan Elizabeth Phillips another chance after all - at least for this book. After a relatively slow beginning Kiss an Angel got to be quite good after all. It was actually very nice to read this after reading Perfect by Judith McNaught and going on a six-day rollercoaster ride of a hundred thousand emotions. Light-hearted was definitely what I needed and what I got with Kiss an Angel. Daisy was extraordinarily likeable despite the author's introduction of her as a spoilt feather More...

Kiss an Angel is a sweet book about Daisy Devreaux arranged marriage to Alex Markov.

After her mother's death, pretty Daisy got buried in debt and had to ask for help from her father. Her father (I forgot his name) agreed to help her on one condition: Daisy has to stay married for 6 months to the guy his father chose. It's either go to jail or get married. But arranged marriages don't happen in the modern world, so how did the irrepressible Daisy find herself in this fix?

I love the story. I have More...

Ok so a book about a modern-day arranged marriage absolutely SHOULD NOT WORK! But alas, it does, and brilliantly. Throw in a traveling circus and a gorgeous Russian and you have one of the funniest, most outrageous romance novels you'll read. I loved it!

All the stars in the sky wouldn't suffice for this incredible book. This book was so good that I don't think I could ever enjoy reading any other romance book from now on. I kept holding myself from reading it, tried to delay finishing this breathtaking story just because I didn't want to put this book behind me but it was impossible to part with all that's happening in the book.

Liked the last half part of the book more than the 1st half. That last half really made me change my mind about the book, Daisy & Alex. I didn't even hate Sheba at the end... much, lol. I don't like doormat/pushover heroines but Daisy proved her something else... so different from what first impression I got from the 1st half of the book, at the end I came to respect & love her character. & Alex, I hated his gut for how he treated Daisy but the way he changed his heart & attit More...

This book makes me want to cringe. Mainly because the hero treats the heroine like garbage for most of the book. By the end, he wasn't redeemable for me and he was not worthy of the heroine. I just couldn't believe his love for her was real. I love crazy-in love heroes and he definitely wasn't one. The ending was supposed to be a grovel but it wasn't nearly enough in my opinion. I think he was such a tortured hero and he was so wrapped up in his own world, that he couldn't properly love the hero More...

I loved this book!!! It is one of the best contemporary romance novels I have ever read. It fits into the category of crazy plots that work .

Meet Daisy. 26 year old woman with no real place in the world. Her father is an overbearing dufus with his heart set on her marrying into the Russian royal family. Enter Alex... one studly Russian who owes Daisy's father quite a large favor and he pays him back by agreeing to marry Daisy for six months and teach her a little something about life.

Honestly, I read the plot for this one and I didn't think I could do it. The whole arranged marriage with some Russian dude? Really? I like my romances modern and I like 'em funny with characters that dig themselves into my heart. As much as I love Susan Elizabeth Phillips I let this one sit on my shelf for a very long time.

***10/10/11-- listened to Kiss and Angel on audio narrated by the great Anna Fields. I'm always in awe of Field's narrative abilities, and she doesn't disappoint. Unfortunately, her great narration doesn't improve the rating on this book. Alex is a cold SOB, Daisy is too perfect, and the mystical bonding with the animals too contrived.***

SEP ran off to join the circus, or maybe she just let her imagination run away with her. Kiss An Angel was published in 1996, but feels like a much older book. More...
