When Penny's ex-husband approached her to be the new chef for the failing family restaurant, she really wanted to gloat. Having been rejected while they were married for a job, he was now needing her help. She was now over him, pregnant, and happy with her life.

Cal knew having Penny around would be difficult. There were a lot of family secrets in the closet, and he knew she would be upset, but as each came to light, she was still there beside him.

Delicious was the traditional romance that a person will read. The couple fell in love, then a fight occurs, and then they make up and get back together and live happily ever after. But one part of the story is different, the couple was married before. They got divorced but they manage to fall in love again, or they never got over eachother and stopped loving one another.

Cal and Penny run a restaurant together; Penny being the cook, and Cal being the manager for a trial of four months in order...more

I unintentionally read this series in exactly reverse order, which I now see is really a shame; there are continuing story lines and I probably would have appreciated the other books more if I’d gotten the order right. On the other hand, perhaps I liked this one the most because I read it last? Anyway, what I had read about the first couple’s story always made this sound like the most interesting book of the series, so I was happy to finally get it; ironically enough it turned out to be almost t...more

Summary: Since her divorce from Cal three years ago, Penny has become a sought after chef. Now Cal needs her to work for him, to save his family's restaurant. Penny is a different woman now. She's even pregnant (via in vitro) and ready to be a mother on her own. As they work together they come to realize how much they still matter to each other. Penny also learns Cals secret, the one she never realized was driving a wedge between them all those years ago. Cal has a daughter that he gave...more

I am really liking Susan Mallery's writing style. Even how she can write her characters. I'm not necessarily fan of her "guys" but certainly the women come up with are certainly impressive. They leave their mark on you.

The plot is very basic actually. Penny Jackson, a very talented chef and a to-be mom, gets a job offer from her ex-husband (Cal) to run a restaurant. Now both of them parted ways in a very bitter way so to speak. They both are convinced that what's between them is over, but is it?...more

I liked this one a lot more than the last SM book I read. However, I'll start with the bad first. The romance, unfortunately wasn't good enough. I have an intense dislike for Cal. There were too many strikes against him.A serious part of me wanted her to forget all about him and find someone else who's actually worthy.

Gloria, what a piece of work. She's as much a bitch as Jed Titan's an asshole. Way to go with writing antagonists, SM.

Now what I liked about this book, the secondary characters. T...more

Penny is the best chef around. Cal needs a chef. Sounds simple enough... unless the were once married and now need to work together.

While we never really read much about Penny from their marriage (except the end of it) you will get the feel that Penny has changed over the 3 years she and Cal have been divorced. She has come into her own and now she is pregnant by IVF. Cal was raised by the wicked witch of the Northwest (Seattle) and that family has alot of secrets and he never shared them with P...more

All I have to say is that Penny Jackson is a better woman than I am, and I put up with a lot of crap. I would have never taken Cal back after all that he lied and withheld from her...not going after her when she left him and their marriage, changing his mind about wanting children, withholding the fact that he had a child he gave up for adoption as a teenager that he was still keeping tabs on, telling her he never really loved her (or didn't love her enough)while they were married, not telling h...more

San...more

I generally don't review audiobooks simply because I usually don't have a print copy to refer to while writing the review. And since my memory isn't always great and I'm often reading more than one book at a time, the need to check details happens. This time I'm going strictly from memory so consider yourself warned. :)

This is one of those second chance at love romances although through much of the story I wasn't sure the heroine should give the hero a second chance. Penny and Cal fell in love,...more

What a fun story of reunited love. I loved that Cal could see how much stronger Penny had gotten since their divorce. I loved that Penny knew what she wanted (a baby) and made it happen herself. I hated how many secrets were always being revealed (usually by a conniving Gloria). I still don't know why Penny didn't just tell Gloria (in the beginning) that she didn't have designs on Cal. Gloria assumed Penny was just there to get back with Cal, but that wasn't it at all! Ultimately, sure, but init...more

It's been three years since the divorce, but Cal Buchanan has finally come back begging to Penny Jackson. Nevermind that it's only for a job as a chef at his family's failing restaurant in order to kick it back into gear. Details, details, what matters is now he needs her. A woman is entitled to enjoy a little retribution from the man she had to leave because he was so detached & wouldn't build a family with his own wife, a man who never came for said wife. So, the Executive Chef...more

In questa serie titoli e copertine sono stupendi e descrivono alla perfezione i romanzi. Storie deliziose e irresistibili, dove il cibo ha un ruolo chiave.

I have been devouring all of Susan Mallery's books as if there's no tomorrow in the past few weeks. I don't typically read so much of one author all at once, but I've read to run into a Susan Mallery novel I haven't enjoyed, but as for Delicious, I have to say it truly is delicious. Up until this point I don't think that I had a favorite Susan Mallery novel, but I believe we finally have a winner.

I really enjoyed this book for a variety of reasons. While it had all of the signature Susan Mallery...more

Welcome to the world of restaurant business. In this sizzling new four-book series by Susan Mallery, in Delicious, we're introduced into the food business and the hot foods to make it success. This story is about Penny Jackson, a chef who's carrying a secret of her own, and her ex-husband, Cal Buchanan, who has one he kept for a long time, when she works for him. But when they're reunited, more than sparks fly. We see how devoted they are to make his restaurant a success, in spite of his evil gr...more

Full-bodied story with interesting characters. Backstory made real enough, and sequel-bait woven in well enough, to make me want to know more about the cast. Satisfying romance, believable chemistry, compelling conflict. Rich details of setting. Its only significant weakness is a tendency to fall flat when focusing on the one-note villain, for whose motivations we get mere glancing explanation. That and an utterly abrupt, unsatisfying ending.

NTS: Decided to read this because of the back-cover bl...more

How "Delicious" this story has been. I totally loved it. Maybe a little too passion here and there but the story was really really good. I love the family interaction, the female bonding and mostly everything.

Besides, after a fair share of TSTL heroines, I greatly appreciated a woman with a solid sense. Yes, she got pregnant by IV, but I can understand a woman who wants a child and feels her biological clock is talking to her but still she was really young!

BTW a great great story, totally recomm...more

This book just didn't hold any magic for me. I could tell they were falling in love (or should I say back in love? By the end of the book, I still wasn't convinced that he had ever really loved her the first time around.) But for some reason it didn't feel like a love story to me. It's not that he wasn't repentant for his mistakes - he was, but he kept making the same sort of mistakes. It took him too long to learn from them. The big grovel at the end was impressive, but not good enough for me.

Cal is seriously screwed up and it’s all Gloria’s fault. At the begin of the book it was interesting to understand that these tow separated but still are friends, so working together can be strange but not impossible. Cal thinks it’s better for them to be friends than anything else, because everything he touch became destructive.

I don’t blame him, for his mistakes in life, but I do blame him by the way he treated Penny during their marriage and how he never even came clean about his secrets and...more

Food and romance, who can beat that? Penny Jackson was approached by her ex-husband, Cal Buchanan, to help him save his family's main restaurant. Cal didn't expect what a change she made overall in her personality and also the restaurant. Both of them found out that they get along as co-workers and questions about how their marriage failed still bugged Penny. Penny found out the secrets that Cal has been keeping and she felt betrayed and crushed.

This book has your typical romance written all ov...more

The descriptions of food in this book are, well, delicious. However, the rest of the story falls a little flat. The story is based around a divorced couple who rediscovers each other while trying to save a failing restaurant in Seattle. Everyone in the story has kept hurtful secrets. The secrets are all revealed, but I didn't feel that the characters worked through the emotions. Instead, all problems were solved by too much Deus ex Machinas. This was the first in a series, but I don't think I'll...more

I would probably rate this higher if I hadn't just finished another audiobook with an "evil aunt/grandmother" who is pulling string behind people's backs and is basically hateful and manipulative. On top of that, there were so many secrets being kept in this book by various people that it got to be almost comical toward the end.

I will say Mallery does a better than average job helping the reader understand why the secrets were kept. Plus, Mallery doesn't try to absolve characters of their action...more
