Susan Mallery writes the best family dynamics in her stories. And this was no exception. The Buchanan family is great. They tease, they get together, they care about each other and they all hate their grandmother, Gloria.
This was Walker's story. He was a beautifully broken hero who thought he didn't have anything to give to a woman cause of something he did when he was young. But Walker was so caring and careful, and he didn't even realize it.

I swear, I could be president of the Susan Mallery Fan Club! I adore her books. I love them even more when they are series books (like Irresistible *wink*) because I think she does such a great job of keeping up with previous characters, while not spending too much time on their stories.
I have to say, I have not read the Buchanan books in order. I started with #3 (Reid and Lori, Sizzling) then read #1 (Penny and Cal, Delicious). But I have been looking forward to Walkers story because I think h...more

I can usually count on Susan Mallery for a decent, light romance and this book was no exception. This is Second in the series (and you definitely want to read the first as there's a lot of carryover from the previous in installment. Loved Walker, the former marine as a character. My favorite part of this story wasn't the romance, it was his search for a girl who was the sweetheart of a young marine killed in the line of duty. (which started in book one). The search and the conclusion were both v...more
I thought the first book I would ever recommend of Susan Mallery's would be the first in the Fool's Gold series (and all of them after that) but after reading this book I changed my mind. This is the 2nd in the Buchanan series however I really do feel that it can stand alone... Yes it will make you want to read the 1st book but you won't miss anything by starting with this book.

The book started out well then disintegrated into a bunch of unbelievable and overly melodramatic story lines. Too many of the characters were caricatures, from Gloria the grandmother to Gloria's new private duty nurse (a thoroughly unpleasant woman who I suppose will be the love interest for Reid-- Yuck!), to Neal, the slimy ex-boyfriend. Children are difficult to get right on paper or on screen, and Mallery doesn't succeed in creating a believable 5 year old in Zoe.

I think I like this better than the first one. I didn't really like Walker at first because he was so darn angsty. But I did like Elissa. It's unusual for me to like the girl more than the guy in a story. But anyway, it all worked out in the end.
This was really funny. I have read a lot of books by Susan Mallery, and I'm really starting to make this series my favorite. I laughed at it more than I did with the others. Though I couldn't help but compare this series with the Lone Star Sisters series...more

I really liked Walker and Elissa. His honesty with her about his past and why he thought he was unworthy of her attention was heart wrenching. A troubled hero that learns that is worthy of a woman...gets me every time!
Elissa was a strong and very likeable heroine. She never let her bad decisions early in her live define who she was.
Mallery still gives us snippets of the other members of the Buchanan clan.

This is the second story in the Buchanan family. Absolutely better than the first book. I think the series is progressing nicely. The chemistry between Walker and Elissa was gradual and I felt the sexual tension.
Elissa is a single mother who doesn’t need the distraction of her sexy neighbor Walker Buchanan. Having the tendency to pick up the wrong men, she shies away from him but luck won’t have it that way. After Walker helps her out with a flat tire (even pays for the tire) she sets out to pa...more

You can always tell when I’ve downloaded a book from the library. They’re never in order. The library should really list things in series. I picked this one out because of the cupcake on the front. There’s no bakery and no cupcakes. Why did I think that a romance book’s cover would reflect the story? Silly me.
This is the second book by Mallery that I’ve read. She might be the queen of contemporary romance stereotypes. Everyone in her stories are just cut-out characters from the heroic ex-marine...more

I will say that from the start I knew just what was going to happen with this one. Although there were a couple of surprises, Dani and her story along with Bobby's actions years ago.
Even though I knew what was going to happen it didn't bother me as I really liked Elissa and Zoe. I liked that Elissa wasn't "all woe is me, my life sucks, feel sorry for me", she did the best she could to provide a good home for them both. I didn't know that this was book 2. I had no clue that it was part of a series. But even though I didn't know this, I loved this book. To me I wouldn't think that you would have to read the books in order to understand them or love them. This book was funny and a fast read for me. When I wasn't reading it I was thinking about it, and to me, those are the best books you can get.

As much as I loved Delicious, the first book in the Buchanans series, I have to say that I might have loved Irresistible even more. Very rarely will I hide myself away and read a book in a single sitting, but this was one of those rare cases where I could not walk away until I was finished, and I adored every minute of it.

I snagged this book at a used book store early this summer. I started it several times over the course of the last few months, but it didn't immediately grab my attention. As a result, it was set aside for other books along the way. However, I was surprised by what I did and did not appreciate about this book. Let me start with what I didn't...

Um, it's a tough one. I liked it but it just one of those "been there, read that" kind of stories. Maybe it's because I haven't been in the mood for contemporary romance for the past few weeks. I'm sure 2 months ago I'd probably give this one star higher than what I did rate it. On the plus side this was sooo much better than the last book.

How can Gloria be such a heartless person? And who is she to determine who is good enough for her grandsons? It amazes me what good people the Buchanans grew into considering she was the one to raise them. Walker was such a good guy -- it's a good thing he could care less what his grandmother thinks. And Elissa was such a strong, independent woman. I liked that their relationship grew in baby steps, and that Walker was willing to stay at arm's length if that's what Elissa wanted. I thought it wa...more
Walker is a very serious guy. I think Im used to the Hero being a little more easy going, and laid back.
Elyssa was really skittish. When walker & Elyssa figure out they're attraced to eachother, there were a few hot scenes. But they didn't have the usual "He-Man" "She's-the Boss" type banter that Im used to in Susan Mallorys books. So thats why I didn't like it as much as some others I have read from her. The fact that she's a single mom, and a bit paranoid about men in general, then finding...more

Awww, this was really sweet. I loved Walker. He was just so much more than I expected. We got a small peek at him in Delicious but I loved this in depth look at him. He totally didn’t give himself enough credit, but i’m glad he came to his senses. Alyssa was awesome and so strong, but I can’t believe at 25 years old she thought she was going to go 18 years without sex! Crazy, Lady! LOL

BEST in the series! Elissa is a single mother struggling to make ends meet. Walker is an ex-Marine on a mission to deliver a letter for a forgotten soldier. Who knew a flat tire could lead to such lust.
The story starts strong and ends strong. Walker and Elissa's story really got to me and I never get emotional over books. I was pulling for them the entire time. I couldn't put the book down. I liked the glimps of the next two Buchannan stories as well. In most series, the story picks up within a...more

This is book 2 of the Buchanan series. The Buchanans are a Seattle family of 4 siblings (four books in the series). Irresistible is the story of Walker Buchanan. He's fresh out of the Marines and on a mission to find a friend of a fallen comrade who had no other family. Although Walker could afford to live in the best house in the best area of the city he takes an upper flat in a modest area. His downstairs neighbor is Elissa, a single mom just trying to make ends meet and do the best for her yo...more

3.5 stars. Very nice read. It was relaxing without a lot of drama, which is what I was looking for today. From just looking at the cover I thought it would have humor but, no such luck. Desappointed for my first Mallery book. Everytime I see her book covers I always think I'll save her books for a gloomy day because they always look so happy and colorful. This unfortunately was the hero and heroine's constant struggle with everyday life. No happiness there. I also think Susan Mallery has not hit...more

This is the second book in the Buchanan series & I picked it up last night since I couldn't fall asleep & finished it in 3.5 hours.

What is a Contemporary Romance doing on my Favorite’s shelf when it is mostly filled with Historicals? One word: Walker. I fell in love with this strong, quiet Marine. Susan Mallery wrote him to perfection: a lone wolf searching with tenacity for meaning in a cruel world. His backstory broke my heart, yet was not too melodramatic – and a probable response for a 17 - 18 year-old guy. The whole book was very down to earth and realistic, especially the dialogues. Elissa was a believable character m...more

I didn't know this was a Harlequin-type romance til I was a couple of chapters in (they've changed the covers to chick lit pink) However, as soon as the main character mentioned the thought of tearing her clothes off at the sight of 'the guy' I checked the spine of the book- uh-huh.

“How lovely." The old lady sighed. "An office romance. I always wanted an office romance. Of course I never really had a job, which made the situation more challenging. Oh, I worked on an assembly line during World War II, but there weren't very many men around and as my husband was off serving his country, an office romance would have been unpatriotic, don't you think?--Mrs. Ford”
