5 stars – Romantic Suspense

Arson, blackmail, murder, intrigue...this top-notch, intense, taut, and emotional romantic suspense thrill ride, full of shocking twists and surprises, is Karen Rose at her very finest.

Series fans (me included!) have long awaited to die for hero David Hunter’s story, and Silent Scream finds the sweet, caring, sexy, do-gooder firefighter, aka Mr. Perfect, caught in the middle of a dangerous, twisted arson and multiple homicide investigation that More...

Karen Rose delivers another page-turning blend of gut-churning suspense and bone-melting romance in SILENT SCREAM, which finally gives her fans the story of David Hunter, who has played a secondary role in several of her previous books. Having moved to Minneapolis in the previous book I CAN SEE YOU, the sexy firefighter's company is called to the scene of what looks to be an environmental arson case, where he is unable to rescue a young woman from the burning building. As luck would have it, the More...

This was an awesome book. I have always liked David and was happy tosee him get his book. I thought that he was too perfect through in the other stories. Karen made him very human in this story and we could see that it was a facade, because of an incident in his past. I thought that Olivia was right for him and they had strong chemistry together. You really had to stay with this book, because it was so convoluted it was easy to get lost. Rose pulled it off in the end and I was surprised in the e More...

It began as a statement when four Minneapolis college students decided to burn a condo complex in protest of ruining wetlands and upsetting the eco system. However, it all went wrong when a young girl hiding out with her boyfriend caught caught in the fire and a security guard was found murdered at the site. That should have been the end, but unfortunately a professional blackmailer had discovered their plans and was on site filming the whole thing. This stalker, then having the ability to de More...

Police procedural solving a serial killer/blackmailer/arsonist mystery. Ok story, but I’d prefer smarter cops.

STORY BRIEF:
Olivia is a police homicide detective in Minneapolis. 2 ½ years ago she met David while visisting Chicago. While they spent the night together he said another woman’s name during sex. Olivia was hurt and snuck away without leaving a note. David felt rejected and neither of them contacted the other for 2 ½ years. Since then David moved to Minneapolis wh More...

I had seen Karen Rose mentioned recently in the same sentence as Tess Gerritsen and Karin Slaughter, both authors I enjoy, so thought I'd give a different author a try. I didn't realise when I started reading it that the main characters had appeared in her previous books.

The story begins with an arson attack on a new condo, resulting in two deaths. The cuplrits are being watched and become the target of a blackmailer who uses them to achieve his own ends. Olivia Sutherland is a homic More...

A bittersweet read, since I am now officially caught up on Karen Rose- with no new novels available for about six months. Boo. At least if I have to take a hiatus, it's with the memory of one of her better novels to keep me company. Silent Scream's hero is David Hunter, and I've been waiting for his story for quite some time. I like the way Rose kind of switched things up in this book, in that the male lead was the one with the secret traumatic past and a present full of community service, c More...

I picked this book up because it won a RITA award and I'm exploring a variety of romance novels. I enjoy a good mystery and suspense, but despite the accolades, I am not enjoying this book that much. I'm about a third of the way through and will push on just a bit further. Surely, it gets batter?
For starters, there's almost too much going on. I'm losing track of suspects and side characters. I also find the hero, David Hunter, a little unbelievable because he's such a saint. He perfor More...

If you enjoy detective thrillers with strong woman lead characters, I highly recommend Karen Rose's novels in general, and her latest novel, Silent Scream, in particular.

Silent Scream opens with young misguided students participating in an ecoterrorist attack against condo developers. But when there is an unexpected hitch, the college students find themselves trapped, forced into progressively worse situations.

While Silent Scream has violent moments, its strength is in Ka More...

::sigh:: David Hunter.... whats not to love? I usually find self-deprication to be annoying, but the inner struggles that David and Olivia have was just the right amount to keep you still... hurting for them, and desperately wanting them to find happiness. The plot was NUTS! Karen Rose's plots usually are... and while... it's kind of ridiculous how much drama happens to the Hunter family... you still get so engrossed in the story, the mystery, and the characters.

I have been waiting for David Hunter's story since I first read him, in Max and Caroline's story. I couldn't believe he appeared in 4 books but he didn't seem to get his HEA. Of course, I was a bit relieved when Karen Rose ensured me (via email) that David would get his story. So imagine my happiness and expectation when this released this year.

Does Karen Rose delivers? Hell, yes, and MORE! Mystery wise, it's good ... though I can already guess the culprit before half of the book bec More...

Finally caught up on this loosely connected series. If you haven't started reading Karen Rose and you're looking for well written characters and story line, definitely give her a try. In Silent Scream the hero and heroine have appeared as secondary characters in previous books. I do think plenty of background information is given on them that this can be read as a stand-alone but I would still recommend reading the previous books.

There is no doubt Olivia Sutherland is a good cop and a More...

Like so many others, I couldn't wait to read David Hunter's story. Beautifully done. I loved how honest David was, and how he and Olivia fought for their relationship. Suspense aside, the rest of the story was a beautiful romance and also a great friend story. Rose excels at that, even in the midst of spine-tingling suspense.

As for the suspense: Rose uses certainly one of my biggest fears in order to propel her villain. While, as she frequently does, the villain is revealed to us som More...

I bet Goddess K-Rose doesn't sleep well at night. I know I sure wouldn't if I had stories like hers strolling around in my head. This woman obviously researches her subjects super well to get into the minds of her murderers, serial killers, cops &/or alphabets, arsonists and now firemen. And as usual, boy, does she get into their minds!

In the dictionary next to the word "suspense" is a Karen Rose book. She writes like very few others when it comes to suspense/thrillers More...

Four college students start a fire in a condo under development, accidentally killing an innocent teenager. Now, not only are they victims of a serial blackmailer and guilty of arson (despite their motives being "good"), they also have the cops on their tails.
But as in all KR books, those cops are the least of the foursome problems, since they're forced to do the blackmailer's bidding, setting more fires, digging their holes deeper and deeper.

The random fires won't be More...

From my blog...[return]Over thirty years ago I read my first Trixie Belden novel, The Secret of the Mansion by Julie Campbell and I was forever hooked on mystery novels. It is beyond a doubt my favourite genre and reading Silent Scream by Karen Rose reminded me of all the reasons why I do so enjoy an excellent mystery. Silent Scream is what some would call a chunkster at well over 500 pages and I quite literally read the novel cover to cover, as I was unable to put the book down. Silent Scream More...

Ever since I read my 1st Karen Rose book You Can’t Hide in 2006 I was hooked on Rose’s suspenseful storylines, romantic relationships about people I actually cared reading about and amazing storytelling. She quickly became one of my favourite auto-buy authors and I did something I have never before done...I immediately went to Amazon and purchased her entire backlist. She is one of the few authors whose books I will shell out the big bucks for and purchase in hardcover because I can’t wait for t More...

As I've said previously in my review of Don't Tell, I worship at the altar of Karen Rose. She isn't just a master of romantic suspense, she is THE master.

As with all of her books, you can read this one as a stand alone, but I can't recommend enough starting with Don't Tell and reading the books in order. The characters all appear in several of the novels and are all connected in some way (or become connected as the series progresses). Even though things are explained and each book ma More...

A daunting 570 pages, and I'm glad I just finished I Can See You (book #10) and went right into Silent Scream (book #11) because they tie directly together. Other characters from earlier books are mentioned or pop in and out as well, but a person MUST read "I Can See You" FIRST as an absolute minimum.

Having said that, I think one of the things that turned me off Silent Scream was having just finished I Can See You. In the latter, the bad guy was horrible and his tactics More...

Karen Rose continues to prove why she's one of my favorite authors. She has delivered another heartwarming yet gut wrenching suspenseful novel. This one features David Hunter and Olivia Sutherland. We first met David in KR's book Don't Tell and we first met Olivia in Count to Ten. Both of them have appeared in a couple other of KR's books as well. David has had an unrequited love for Dana Dupinsky (heroine in Nothing To Fear) for years. He and Olivia meet up at Mia's wedding two and a ha More...

Another awesome, intricately plotted book by Karen Rose. I always marvel at the ideas that KR comes up with--her villains are so dastardly yet clever! Many times while reading the book I said to myself "Ahhhh, that's so evil yet clever! You just have to admire how her mind works! This one is a little unlike her other books, maybe not as gruesome, no real tortures going on here, although there is some violence. It's all about blackmail, extortion, that kind of thing, so if you're a bit More...

Karen Rose never disappoints me with her books. I stayed up very very late reading this new one the other night because I just could not put it down. I was dying to know how the suspense plot worked out. Plot-wise, this isn't one of my favorite KR storylines, but it was still an absolutely fantastic book.

Series Note:

All I can say is I love this book. LOVE IT! This story revolves around David Hunter and Olivia Sutherland, two characters from previous Karen Rose books. There are a rash of fires/murders that draw David and Olivia together. Problem is, there is a history between them that they must get past in order to solve the crimes that threaten their friends and family.

Karen Rose fans will love this book, as will anyone who enjoys romantic suspense books.

Fires are being set all over town, with earmarks of a long-ago rash of arsons. Olivia, a homicide investigator, and David, a Firefighter search for the answers in the rubble, while trying to sort through the wreckage left behind their one night stand several years ago. When Olivia can't let go of his one minute mistake, how is David ever going to gain her trust?

The story in this novel comes off the heels of the story begun in Rose's previous novel "I Can See You". So expe More...

Excellent book. Well written, with links into last book (but not so many that it mattered if you hadn't read it). Twists and turns all over the place, and for once I didn't guess the connections/ending, which was an extremely pleasant surprise for me. Several unexpected shocks, and right amount of suspense. I really enjoyed reading it.

Where is MY David Hunter?! *lol* No,seriously,he's such a wonderful guy. But not too perfect,he has some edges which is IMO the best mixture ;)

I like the story,a lot. It's maybe a bit too drawn out at times (equals the 0.5 minus point in my rating) but other than that exciting, easy to read with a great balance between the mistery and the romance part!

So I really liked this one. We have been reading about David Hunter for sometime and I for one was so ready for him and Olivia! It was a great story that brought in both the PD and FD with Tom and Noah even getting small parts. Heck, even David's mom had a role in this one. Thanks Karen Rose for another great installment!
