Versatile- Really good field guide and useful lab identification guide. Key is to family, with descriptions of many genera. Good selection of rare, weird and common beetles.
There has been enough beetle work done to do some nice regional guides in this series with more illustrations and natural history.

This guide is extremely helpful for focusing solely on beetles (Coleoptera order). Especially useful is a table that lists the beetle families and provides the number of North American species, their range, abundance, locale type, range of length and antennae type.
