I really liked Xypher. He is a half demon/half god Dream Hunter. He assisted in the Dimme and the gallu fight in Vegas a few weeks back. In return, Hades allowed him to leave Tartarus (hell), for one month and live as a human. The reason he has been banished to Tartarus is an interesting one. No spoilers here.
He literally runs into Simone while fighting some demons in New Orleans. Simone is a human, and medical examiner in New Orleans. She is friends with a Dark Hunter squire, and is also able t...more

Why did I get the impression that Simone was playing a bit of Ghost Whisperer in this book? All the talking to ghosts and helping them cross over was way too similar to this show. Anyways, moving on… This was a decent book, nothing spectacular happening in it. Badass hero meets heroine, he’s an asshole to her but eventually he gets soft and they end up together. Love conquers and all that crap. Ok. I don’t mind this if the characters and story itself are interesting. This was mediocre.

This book was awesomne, I think I liked it almost as much as I did devil may cry, which is a lot to say. I did not enjoy the other dream hunter books. I do not find the dream hunter topic interesting at all.

Nevertheless, in this book the dream hunter thing is barely mentioned. You know he is an ex dream hunter, but it doesn't matter at all while the events developed.

Really really good. For al of those who were not sure to read this book, you should not skip it, it has nothing to do with the dre...more

**My impression of this book before I had finished** Every book in this series you learn something new about: the Dark Hunters, Were-Hunters, Dream -Hunters, Acheron and other gods, and demigods(correct me if I am wrong about the rank in races of beings). What i try to connect with is the mind of the main character. If they feel real enough for me I am convinced I will enjoy the story. There's so much happening that I know I will enjoy re-reading this series.

This is the story of Xypher a Phobot...more

To quote Simi from the YearofAcheron website:

"Don’t forget that Dream Chaser is out and before you read Akri’s book, you really, really need to read Xypher’s cause if you don’t know who Jaden is, you gonna be missing out."

Well if Simi says so, I guess that's settled! ;D

...ok, finished reading - here's my review:

I haven't read the first 2 Dream Hunter books, but I had no problem following along. Xypher is another classic Kenyon hero – gorgeous and tortured. He's a Skoti (a rogue Dream Hunter tha...more

A wonderful addition to the Dream-Hunter series. In fact with this novel I would say Kenyon is not only back on track with the series, but she has finally established a clear path for it now. Yay!

Xypher, a Skotos, has been tortured in Hell for centuries by Hades for crimes he didn’t commit. He was betrayed by Stryker’s sister, Satara. Yes, the evil duo rear there nasty heads again (grin). Xypher manages to help Ash’s daughter Kat, and she cuts a deal with Hades to grant Xypher one month of freed...more

Background on my reading: Before my writer's conference last weekend, I knew Sherrilyn Kenyon was one of the major romance writers in attendance. I had no idea how fanatic her following is, or that the wait in line for her autograph was over an hour long. She was the keynote speaker at our Friday dinner and spoke of the obstacles to not only getting published, but to staying published. She had spilled a drink on her speech, too, which made her and everyone else laugh when she couldn't read a sec...more

"Sacrifice is for the weak. Hatred corrupts. Love destroys. Vengeance is the gift of the strong."

"May the gods have mercy on those who have wronged me because I will have no mercy for them."

And so it begins…

This is the story of Xypher, who we meet briefly (and I instantly loved) in Devil May Cry. As usual, he is an angry, tortured soul who is out for vengeance against the woman who betrayed him and damned him to an eternity of torture in hell. When he comes to the rescue of Simone, a ghost-seei...more

Audio- I almost skipped this book. The last dream Hunter book just did nothing for me. This one woke up my need for the Hunter world. This edition to the series has strong ties to the Dark Hunters, with a few characters overlapping into the story. It was exciting, mysterious, romantic, and set in New Orleans !
Simone Dubois and Dream-Hunter Xypher are the perfect mix of hot and cold. They are trapped together, and boy oh boy talk about opposites. Snicker** this is where the fun starts. They tortu...more

Synopsis - Simone Dubois is a professor and medical examiner, frequently called upon for unusual cases. She has been haunted by the ghost of a 17-year-old boy named Jesse who is stuck in the 80's since the death of her family. While trying to help the ghost of a young woman whose body hopped up off the table and walked out of the morgue, she encounters the gorgeous and unpleasant Xypher. Simone seems to attract the unusual, and Xypher is definitely at the top of that heap. He was born of a Sumer...more

We met Xypher in Devil May Cry. And he got a prize for helping them stop the Dimme – a month free from Tartarus. A month he can spend getting revenge on Satara, the woman who betrayed him and caused him to be condemned to eternal torture in Tartarus in the first place.

Of course, getting to Satara isn’t easy and while hunting he runs across Simone – a pathologist seeking answers to an apparent serial killing. Simone is dragged into Xypher’s world when Satara’s agents bind them both together – rat...more

It was a little disappointing that Ash wasn’t in this book much. I thought the story a little predictable as I knew just about how it would turn out but I must admit that Simone and Xypher were intriguing and sexy. I really liked Xypher even if he was rather caustic. I liked Jesse too. Who has a ghost as a friend? It was rather funny though I was a little hurt that Sherrilyn didn’t give us an epilogue with information regarding the future of Simone and Xypher. I guess we’ll learn more later.

I'm giving this book a 3 out of 5 stars only because the story is redeemed by the supporting characters of Jaden and Jesse. Jaden is an unknown entity who's so dark and bad ass he's awesome. Conversely, Jesse is a ghost obsessed with the memorabilia of the eighties, the time period when he died at the age of 17. Jesse is a lovable and loyal goofball who's got an entertaining sense of humor. Regarding our main characters, I had willing suspension of disbelief issues. I didn't find that the couple...more

I really ended up liking this book. Xypher was introduced in book #13 as a Skoti Dream-Hunter who was condemned to Tartarus for all eternity for crimes against humanity. Kat bargained with Hades for Xypher's release back into the human world in exchange for information about the gallu they were hunting. However, Hades put the condition on his release that he would only have 1 month before he had to return to Tartarus and his punishment. This book opens with Xypher starting his one month of freed...more

Xypher half god and half demon, tricked by his former lover Satara (a goddess) to give up his life for her
Simone, a medical examiner and university professor who deals with matters of the supernatural nature on the sideline.
Jesse is a ghost and constant companion to Simone. She is the only human that can see him.

exactly why I love this series

--Why did I read this? And am I glad I did?

I haven’t loved the last few books and I have to admit that the series was losing its magic… and then this gem comes along. I really loved this book. It may be my second favorite of the series so far. I laughed constantly. More importantly, I fell in love. The characters and their relationship were near perfect. Storylines from past books that I wasn’t sure about have blended to make the core...more

Almost didn't read this one in my Marathon To Get To Acheron, because after the first Dream-Hunter book it felt pointless. I get it, they're dry, unemotional, super hot dudes who invade your dreams. But then I read that it was important to read before Acheron because of the introduction of a new character and then I saw it was about Xypher who I totally joined the Fan Club for in Kat's book, so I pulled my hand back from Ash's book (So close, and yet...) and waited for this bad boy to come in an...more

I was underwhelmed by the last two Dream Hunter books. I felt the characterization was weak and the romances had little basis. Moreover, they lacked the familiarity of the D-H world. Thankfully, this novel hit the mark perfectly. I was engrossed from the very beginning and did not put the book down until I finished it.

Xypher was interesting and three-dimensional - he was more than simply "I have no emotion, but I like yours, so let's be a couple." I liked him and his bad attitude. And I felt the...more

The Dream Chaser is the best of the Dream-Hunter books. It did seem a little short but it engaged me the entire time. Also I can just see things are brewing up for Acheron's story. So excited!

I easily fell for both the hero and heroine. Xypher is intense and aggressive but he grew so much throughout the book into someone really tender and endearing. And Simone was a wonderful counterpart. She had a horrible experience in her past but she's so full of life and very sweet. Xypher and Simone along...more

By far my favourite dream hunter book of the series.

As a skoti, Xypher still knows what emotions feel like and even though he has been seriously betrayed in the past he didn't do a good job of remaining detached. If anything this made him so much more adorable. Given his history he could have been a total ass but he wasn't. Gruff yes. Caustic definitely. Trust phobic oh yeah but still connected to the people around him.

Simone was his perfect counterpart. Despite her role dealing with the grisly...more

I didn't read this series in order so I didn't like Xypher because I read his brother's story first. I actually grew a soft spot for this demigod despite Raven. I suggest reading this series in order but it is a MUST read for people into fantasy and mythology. I've always loved Mythology---in school it was my favorite and even though I knew all of the stories by heart because my mother also shares my enthusiasm for Mythology, I still loved hearing it again and sharing with the class what I knew...more

This was the first Dream Hunter I've enjoyed. The others were rather boring and didn't feel as if they had been written by the same author of the Dark Hunter and Were Hunter series'. THe love story between Simone and Xypher took a long time to develop but it felt very sincere. Xypher is a Dream Hunter that has been wrongly accused and convicted of a crime he didn't commit. A crome committed by Satara, Stryker's evil sister.

My major complaint with this book was that everyone was willing to make s...more
