Morley Callaghan shows a masterful talent in weaving a web of reality around his diverse cast. The movement of the fortunes of his characters is not predictable. You are drawn through the night-life of Montreal with all of them, never knowing which one will come out on top. An excellent short read.

Edward Morley Callaghan (February 22 1903 -- August 25 1990) was a Canadian novelist, short story writer, playwright, television and radio personality.
