This book took many communter bus rides to finish because of the difficulty of not knowing much about the history of Islam and the people involved in the development of Islam and places in the Middle East. It's definitely a worthwhile book to counter simplistic media accounts of Islam. The most interesting chapters to me were about Muslim women and the digital uma or community. This book covers from the days of the small Muslim world of Muhammad to the Internet-linked community of today.
