I love retellings of fairytales, so having a publisher put out a line of fairytale retellings written by different authors was great. I was reluctant to read this one at first. World War I? Britain? Didn't sound like a background for a fairytale. also, how would the author pull off the "guy got turned into a frog" part?

The answers to those questions are why I gave this book 4 stars. He doesn't literally turn into a frog, but he is a very good swimmer. As a soldier, he got burned so m...more

This retelling of "The Frog Prince" is set in Belgium during World War I. Emma is trapped on her family's estate, which happens to be located right on the front lines. Emma is alone because her mother was killed in a bomb attack.

When her fiancé breaks up with her because of a rumor, Emma gets angry and throws her golden locket into the well. When she climbs into the well to look for the locket, she finds a wounded soldier hiding in the water. His skin is horribly burned and ...more

Such an amazing book - it definately hits my favorites list.

It - as I'm sure you know, if you've read the summary - is a take on 'The Frog Prince', and the best one that I've ever seen (Well, considering all the others are little picture books...that's not much, but this is a great book!).

I couldn't put it down, so I finished it in one sitting, only pausing for dinner. It was seriously awesome, and I recommend it for everyone!

Ok... I wish you could give half stars, I think I would have given this 21/2. It was ok. I wish it had more fairy in it and less tale for a fairytale. It was so completely different than the frog prince it was almost too different. The story was geared much more to an older audience I felt and was probably my least favorite of the once upon a time series.

3 1/2 stars. This is The Frog Prince set in Belgium during WWI. The princess is an English aristocrat stuck at her family's Belgian estate which has been turned into a German military base. Jack Verde (in the frog role) is an American solider/prisoner with a knack for swimming, healing, and finding secret passages. An interesting twist on an old tale.

This also a re-telling of a fairy tale, but the story of the Frog Prince. It was kinda different because you can't really tell if the guy really is a frog or he just swims like one...in that aspect I was a little confused but it was still a good story of loving someone because of who they are, even if it isn't Prince Charming.

Definitely a different retelling of the Frog Prince but good. It was set in WWII times and the Frog Prince and princess were actually prisoners of the Nazis. It took awhile for the princess to come around though which I guess is understandable but at the same time, I was wishing for more.

eh... so so book. It has potential, and the first couple chapters were good, but then it just lost momentum. It seemed like the author was just rushing through, like a kid trying to get his essay written the night before it was due. I was disappointed, and I don't recommend it.

This retelling of a Frog Prince was totally unbelieveable even for a fairy tale. It is set in World War II- a Cajun frog prince fighting as an American soilder meets a high society girl when they are both prisoners of war? I still liked seeing a different take on the story.

i enjoyed the twist on the fairy tale that this presented, but i would really rather have the magic (and not just the subtle magic of the locket). i also tend to like fairy tales with a little less realism. this was too close to the way war changes people.

Ok, so far I have more or less loved all the books in the Once Apon a time Series, but this one was a bit disappointing for me. I suppose there was nothing really wrong with it but I did not find it as interesting as the others.

Retelling of the Frog Prince set in Europe in WWI. One of my favorites in the Once Upon a Time series. I liked how there was no fantastic elements, it was a historical and real life retelling of the fairy tale.

Definitely an interesting read. They weave the frog prince into World War 1 and it is quite interesting the way that they do it. Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Good quick read.
