In this book's defense, there is no way the plot could possibly live up to the cover's potential. But it was close. I've heard on Very Good Authority several horror stories of the Johanna Lindsey reading experience, but that was not going to deter me from having the pleasure/excuse to legitimately fondle this cover for at least a few days while I read it.

So, the cover immediately prepped me to LURVE the hero, and I did. From the first moment he appeared, I was all

So I started reading this because someone who shall remain nameless but who’s name rhymes with D-Ellie posted the original cover art, which involves titty-fucking basically and I had to read it. What better way to get back into the Old School Groove than to read me some crazysauce Lindsey?

Spoiler: there’s no actual titty-fucking in this book.

Well, I’ll say this. It’s a ridiculous plot of one dude pretending to be twins (AND NO ONE NOTICES) (THESE PEOPLE
Note to self: avoid this book cause heroine had an affair with a married man.

I haven't read this book in forever. I finally got it on Kindle, but I used to have this paperback Tender Is the Storm (I'm sure it is tucked away in a box in the basement somewhere) and now that I'm looking at it some of those covers back then were even more risque than today's covers. I think this book is still awesome! It was well written and I like it more than Johanna Lindsey's newer books. I loved sweet Lucas and dangerous Slade. Sharisse of course wasn't planning on being a mail-order bri ...more

I have to admit, I did chose this book to read because of its original cover, cause years ago on Smart Bitches, Trashy Books they talked about this ridiculous cover and what they seem to be doing on the cover :). But this is a book that should not be judged by it's cover! The story is actually quite entertaining and thrilling.

It's a time when America was still mostly East Coast and West was for prospectors, ranchers and gunslingers. Close to a little Newcombe town lives Lucas Holt, keeping a ho
I love how some of Lindsey's novels have heroes in all their glorious nakedness, with the very superlative art by Robert McGinnis. MUCH LOVE.
Before I begin my review, let's talk about this cover, and how it is seriously the best cover of all time. Seriously. I loved this cover YEARS before I even read the book. So let's break it down (and if you're not looking at the mass market paperback, go back and look at it NOW):

First of all, the positioning of the characters is GREAT. It cracks me up that her boobs are being smashed in his crotch - if very definitely lets you know what the book is about (and also a great discussion starter for

Sharisse Hammond, an american heiress, is engaged to a man that she doesn't love, and feels trapped with no way out, not realizing at first that it is her younger sister that is in love with her fiancee. Once Sharisse learns of this, she learns that her sister has been corresponding with a man in Arizona who is looking for a wife as a mail order bride. So Sharisse decides to let her sister persuade her to go all the way to Arizona to marry a man she doesn't know, but would rather go out west, ...more

Not gonna lie, I flipped through this because the cover is just amaze-balls. What do you even call this sexual maneuver? Stomach-job? Just-under-the-boobs-job?

Lindsey is clearly not very familiar with the French language or the late 1800s, as "Sharisse" is neither French (they don't use "sh") or Victorian. (Why yes, I checked census records; why do you ask?) You could maybe argue for "Charisse" but it sounds mega-1970s.

Anyway, pretty boring. Ridiculous plot twists that are pretty obvious. Sex sc

I certainly enjoyed this read. Breezed through it in a day. What a great story. The hero, Slade Holt, is out for revenge against the man who hired a killer to murder his father. Part of the cover was to have a wife. So he advertised for one since he was somewhat isolated in Arizona Territory.

Sharisse responds to the ad because she needs to escape her father's wrath regarding her refusal to marry the man he chose for her.

It's a fun read and has complex elements in the storyline. But JL wraps it u
2.75 - Mail-order-bride romance - Reread :)

Sharisse travels instead of her sister to far away Arizona to Lucas Holt, a rancher, who's searching for a bride via mail. Sharisse isn't really into marrying Lucas but she plays on time, because so she misses her wedding day with the man her sister is in love with. But Lucas has also his own motives for searching for a bride, he's searching for revange for his father who was killed.

I liked the book, but had some issues, so it's not a keeper for me. I

I love a comfort read. And many of Johanna Lindsey's works fit that category for me.

This story is choppy and convoluted. Sharisse Hammond is trying to help her sister, Stephanie, get what she wants. Stephanie wants to be engaged to Joel, says she is in love with him. Unfortunately, Marcus Hammond, their father, wants Sharisse to marry Joel. Stephanie decides that she will go away so she doesn't have to witness the marriage. When Sharisse finds out that Stephanie has agreed to be a mail-order-bride to a rancher in Arizona, she does not approve. Sharisse takes the hit and goes to ...more
The best thing about the book, when all the misunderstanding was cleared. What a relief...
Overall book a good read. Well woven plot, strong characters, Beautifully written.
But as I have noticed with all of Johanna Lindsey's book. She plays with misunderstanding a lot.

Sharisee Hammond had resigned herself to marry Joel Parrington, the man her father had arranged for her. Though she did not love the man, she would never complain and always do what her father expected of her. That was until her younger sister Stephanie told her of her undying love for Joel and how miserable she would be is Sharisee married him. When their father refused to switch which daughter would marry, Stephanie took drastic measures. She set up her own engagement to a rancher in Newcomb, ...more

This historic romance by Johanna Lindsey finds most of its setting in the wild state of Arizona in the 1870's. Although I usually prefer the books that are set in historic England, this one I found to be most captivating. The heroine in the book was Sharisse Hammond, a refined New York lady who was destined by arrangements her father had made to marry a man she did not love. At first, she did not object to the marriage because the man had been a childhood friend of her sister and her. Her sister ...more

Review mengandung SPOILER walaupun dikit sih =P

Well,,siapkan logika krn baca novel yg satu inj agak membingungkan.

Berawal dr tingkah Stephanie yg mencintai Joel Parrington pdhl Joel sdh ditunangkan dg Sharisse sehingga Stephanie bertekad utk menikah dg peternak Arizona yg blm pernah ditemuinya. Stephanie hanya melihat iklan mencari istri di surat kabar&lsg mengirimkan surat utk memenuhi iklan tsb (well, masa iya jaman dulu sampai kyk gitu ny

Awalnya bingung waktu baca prolog. Koq ceritanya tentang Slade, padahal di sinopsis buku tuh cerita tentang Lucas. Setelah kedepannya baru sadar ternyata ada dua karakter tokoh hero (he...he..he..).

Sebelum baca buku ini, gw baca Because you're mine-nya LK, itu gantung krn epilognya lupa dicetak. Lah... jadi apa kabar putri kembar mereka? hidupkah, matikah or diadopsikah? krn dibab-bab sebelumnya tidak dibahas sama sekali ...more

Sharisse Hammond had no intention of giving herself to some rancher who had sent for a mail-order bride! She had gone West only to escape the New York society marriage her father was arranging.

Lucas Holt's intentions were also less than honest. But their plans to use each other were soon complicated by unspoken desire. He never expected her to be so stunningly beautiful. And she never expected to want any man so much.

While Lucas forced Sharisse to play in a danger
Okay, so. From the minute I picked up this book, to the moment I put it down, I was thoroughly confused. My thoughts were constantly going from one thing to another, I was liking this person one minute, then hating them the next, and my feelings on it were in general all over the place. The things I did like; was the Heroine. She was very beautiful in an uncommon way, but strong-willed. I thought the character was very well written. I disliked the Hero (but - there's more than one, sooooo...we ...more

Johanna Helen Howard was born on March 10, 1952 in Germany, where her father, Edwin Dennis Howard, a soldier in the U.S. Army was stationed. The family moved about a great deal when she was young. Her father always dreamed of retiring to Hawaii, and after he passed away in 1964 Johanna and her mother settled there to honor him.

In 1970, when she was still in school, she married Ralph Lindsey, becom
