Nearly as good as the first book in the series. Not quite, but definitely close. I have to admit I'm highly impressed with Leslie Kelly's (aka Leslie Parrish's) jump into the romantic suspense genre.

Series Note: this book is the 2nd book in Parrish's Black CATs trilogy - which is about an FBI Cyber Action Team that investigates internet related murder. I would highly recommend read the books in order.

Summary:
Alex Lambert is new to the Black CATs. He transferred in after an invest

Alec Lambert had gotten too close to a witness a few months back. A serious lapse in judgment that had cost Alec a stint in the hospital, his girlfriend, and his dog (taken by the said girlfriend), not to mention the life of a fellow FBI agent...And now, even Alec's certain promotion to Supervising Special Agent in his BAU unit.
Actually he's been brought down a heap of notches, stuck in the new CAT unit lead by Wyatt Blackstone. A unit investigating Internet-related murders. Knowing the Black CA

Parrish is Fast Becoming a Favorite of Mine in This Genre!

Leslie Parrish does it again! She's given us the second installment of what I've heard is a Black CATs trilogy (though they're so good, I can't help but hope they continue), and in keeping with the first, Fade to Black, she's knocked the romantic suspense genre on its butt with the well-paced, finely-crafted, and emotionally taut Pitch Black.

Alec Lambert is an FBI profiler who's a bit on the outs with the Bureau after a bu

This was better than the first book! There are sideline stories, and character build up. The main story and the characters were intense. The internet scams are real etc. It is scarey reading a book about cyber crimes, and email scams etc. We have all had them, but the twists are scarey enough where you would think it's possible they could happen to someone you know. Gawd! I have stuff listed on Craigslist! Spooky! These will end up being the urban legands in 20 years!

The romance build up was go

Wow, great book! I just recently found this author's new paranormal romance series Extrasensory Agents--which I loved--so now I'm going back and reading her earlier Black CATS series.

Couldn't put Pitch Black down--stayed up late finishing it last night! This book had great mystery and edge-of-your-seat suspense. Parrish writes great 'bad guys'--really creepy! I've read a lot of books about the FBI's behavioral analysis agents, violent crimes field agents, etc. It was good to read a something di

THIS STARTED OUT WITH A BANG OR I SHOULD SAY CRACK THAT WAS KINDA GRUESOME. IT KEPT ME GUESSING UNTIL THE KILLER WAS REVEALED I LOVE THAT. IT WAS SORTA SLOW IN SPOTS BUT DID KEEP ME TURNING THOSE PAGES TO SEE WHO DID WHAT. CYBER CRIMES ARE A BIG PART OF OUR LIVES NOW I THINK THE REASON IT'S SO SUCCESSFUL IS LONELY AND GREEDY PEOPLE. INTERNET CRIME IS SO LUCRATIVE BECAUSE PEOPLE CAN REACH OUT AND TOUCH EACH OTHER (I mean that in a bad way) AND NEVER EVEN KNOW WHO DID THE TOUCHING. THAT'S BOTH CRE ...more

3 1/2 stars (rounded down to 3 stars, because the time spent settting up the next book in the series was distracting and, to be honest, I was more interested in that than the current crime/mystery)

After reading the previous book in the series, I had high expectations for this one. It was not as gripping and suspenseful as Fade to Black, but it was definitely creepier, with a killer who was different from the norm (which is a weird thing to write). The killer is a twisted stalker, and I was glad that he got what he eventually got, as bloodthirsty as that makes me sound. Basically, the suspense/mystery part was well done, like in the previous book.

What I had issues with was the romance. I

Oh my. Another very suspenseful read. Absolutely loved this second book in the Black CATs series. FBI Special Agent Alec Lambert is chasing after this bad guy they call the Professor for the past three years. One of the leads sends him to Samantha Dalton's door. Since the death of her grandmother Samantha has been an online blogger blogging about the dangers of online scams. She becomes the obsession of the Professor who reveals his name to be Darwin. When Darwin finds out that Samantha is helpi ...more

I didn't think this series could get any better than Fade to Black, but I was wrong. Pitch Black is better. Ms. Kelly is at the top of the game in romantic/suspense.

As in the first book, I was sure I knew who the bad guy was...several times. With all the twists and turns, my suspects were eliminated one by one. The last few chapters flew by as FBI SA Alec Lambert and the CAT closed in on him. That's the suspense part. The romance part between Alec and scam-blogger turned victim, Sam, was electri

The action here is intense, and the unsub a scary one. I didn't see the reveal coming. I still am not a huge fan of these as romantic suspense, because the action seems to be much more important to the author than the romance. That's fine, but maybe it's more of a thriller or mystery than romantic suspense.

The characters are a little more interesting this time around and Kelly clearly loves her big strong handsome heroes. I'd like a little more feeling from all of them.

This book was just ok to me. I liked the suspense. I guess I even liked the buildup for the romance. But... There were way too many POV's in this book. Too much time was spent setting up the next book with the other characters. It's an adequate thriller but i wasn't left with the desire to read the rest of the series.

This second installment of the CAT (Cyber Action Team) series wasn't as good for me as the first one, Fade To Black. Not sure why but it's probably my fault for reading it in fits and starts. Then again, if it had been a page-turner, I know I would have made time for it.

I also found the portions dealing with Lily disruptive and though clearly to set her up for the next book, Black At Heart, overdone. It pulled me out of the main story and that was already getting a little saggy in the middle rig

Love this series

Great action story with lots of twists and turns. Great characters. The flow sometimes was a bit chopped up but with many things happening simultaneously it couldn't have been avoided can't wait to read the next one!

Eh. This one really didn't grab me. In fact, it barely held my interest well enough to finish the book, although I can't really say what fell flat. Maybe the heroine was too weak? The hero's deep psychological wound too easily glossed over?

PITCH BLACK

As good if not better than Fade To Black. I loved that all of the characters from the first book were in this one too, plus Alex and Sam. Very good book, can't wait to read the next one.

Way better than Fade to black...! Enjoyed reading it... n Honestly i was skeptic about this warden informing Sam-the-Spaminator about Jimmy Flynt, about him being a freak..why would a warden be interested ? unless he himself had feelings for the woman!! :P anyways not boring....Agent Alec did a wonderful Job, love Black Cats :P
n Lily, it's not fair showing how vulnerable she really is, or should i say sentimental? Hardworking agent yet not a Bad-Ass!!! I knew it, she survived...:P

Wow- where to start? There was so much going on, I was glued to my kindle and about had a heart attack when the low battery started flashing on the screen. Quickly plugging it in, I sat against the wall getting sucked right back into the story. I shouted "NO" and quickly regained my composure telling myself that she was not gone- no way it would end that way. I liked the introduction of Alec to the Black Cat team. I even think that Sam would make a great addition, down the road. Wyatt didn't hav ...more

I almost didn't read this book, because it's the second in a series and I hadn't read the first book. It is so far outside of the realm of what I usually read, but I am extremely glad that I took the time to read it. This book kept me guessing the entire time, I had zero idea who the bad guy was and it shocked me. I was completely spellbound the entire day.

Another that kept me wondering and I when the who was revealed it was a NO FRICKIN WAY moment!! I am on to Black at Heart today after work.

Part of a trilogy, each focusing on a different Devastatingly Handsome FBI agent. The characters were likeable enough that I'm sort of tempted to read the other books, but I don't have much patience for the romantic thriller genre. I particularly don't get how the characters can do and say all kinds of NC-17 things (in terms of both violence and sex), but the narrative language (anything not in quotes) has to stay on a PG level. I mean, come on, a 3-page sex scene in the same book that uses "sca ...more

Don't be deceived by the jacket blurb: this book is a harlequin romance dressed up as a crime novel. It's really too bad because the villain has a ton of potential, but gets shoved aside so that the author can develop a juvenile relationship between the chiselled agent and a gorgeous but damaged divorcee. It's ridiculous and poorly-written. A bunch of other characters are stereotypical and one-dimensional, and a subplot involving catching what is surely the stupidest pedophile on the planet is a ...more
