A lavishly illustrated coffee table book addressing the concept of prayer. Beautiful pictures of praying, holy sights and religious festival from around the world with text from imamate theologians ranging from Thich Nhat Hanh to Thomas Merton concerning the nature of pray in the human experience. A great introduction to the subject; absolutely beautiful photography makes this a great addition to anyones library.

people who pray
This book was a gift from a friend when SHE graduated from the seminary. The photos are lovely, and so are the prayers. My only quibble, really, was that so many faiths and paths that include prayer were omitted. It's great that Buddhism and Hinduism were "allowed" in with the Big Three monotheistic religions, but where is Shinto, where are the aboriginal Australians or Americans, etc?

An absolutely stunning collection of photography showcasing expressions of prayer around the world, from every facet of faith and belief. Complemented by insightful, penetrating essays by some of the leading religious thinkers of the 20th Century, such as Thich Nhat Hanh, Thomas Merton, Desmond Tutu, Mohandas Gandhi, and David Steindl-Rast.
