Joshua's life was pretty average until his archaeologist father was reported dead in a plane crash. Josh's dad had been searching for the Mayan Codex, said to contain key information about the 2012 Mayan prophecy foretelling the end of the world. Was the crash simply a tragic accident, or is there more to his father's death than the authorities are willing to tell him?

I'm hiding the review because of spoilers, but the only real spoiler is the time that was wasted to read the book.

Why I keep torturing myself to finish pitiful books that aren’t worth my time, I have yet to figure out. This was no exception. Joshua’s dad is reported dead and his mom begins to unravel as a result. Joshua is skeptical about the reports of his death and starts to investigate. It doesn’t take him long to get caught up in some huge Mayan mystery and he sets off to Mexico with two fri...more

A...more

Well, this book was actually really entertaining and interesting. I been pretty interested in Mayan mythology and history lately, and I think this book was the reason why!!! It definetely trys to scare you about 2012 and all that shiz, but I dont really get scared by these type of theories, even if they are true!! It definitely was a huge play on imagination, and I'm impressed that the author of this book cold even pull off such a random plot formation, as it all kinda ties in with her dramatic...more

The invisible city by M.G. Harris was a fantastic novel it was fast paced action packed and well thought out the plot of the story didn't go too quickly for the reader not to understand and not too slow for them to get bored.
The story starts off in Oxford England where the main character Joshua, and his parents live. One day Joshua comes home to find the terrible news that his father died on a archeological dig in Mexico. They say it was a plane crash that killed him but Joshua thinks otherwis...more

My son purchased this book at a school book fair intrigued by the mystery of the title, "Invisible City" . Although this book is written for grades 5 thorough 8th and he loves adventure stories and science fictions he was having a hard time getting into the story, so I picked up the book to try to see why he was having difficulty with the book.

At first I thought that the difficulties may have to do with the reading level of the text but as I read I discovered the real difficulties were with them...more

have just come back from the US a few days ago, so right now I am REALLY behind on my blogging. Now, for the JOSHUA FILES!

The book Joshua Files- Invisible City was one of my desired summer reads. It was actually the only book on the list that I took on holiday (OOOOOOOOPS) but it was amazing! As you should know from the post below that it is about on boy on mission. This boy is Joshua Garcia and he has a blog. Not like my blog of course. This blog is different. The purpose of his blog is to fin...more

If the main character in this book weren't just 13, I'd like it more. Some of the events in this book are a bit much for its intended age range, I think. I mean - murder is fine, I guess, but decapitation? Adultery? The main character's mom goes to the hospital for depression and the boy just continues to live at home? Suspicious. Also - he blogs about everything when things are supposed to be top-secret. As a librarian trying to teach students Internet safety, this seems pretty irresponsible. A...more

Buku yang asyik dibaca. Cerita mengalir sampai akhir.

I really didn't like this book. It wasn't realistic at all. It was completely unbelieveable (in the bad way). I wouldn't read this book agian if you paid me. The worst thing is, whoever wrote this book obviously didn't do their research: in the book they say that a mayan prophecy says that the world's going to end on 12/22/12, but in actuallity it's said to happen on the 21st. How sad is that. Though, if you just want to read for the sake of reading, than this isn't a horrible choice, after all...more

What did I think. Well lets see, for starters whats up with this crap about him finding his long lost sister then in like 4 chapters she drowns. I was thinking WHAT THE CRAP!!!! What was the point of even putting a sister in there if you were going to kill her so soon anyways. Right after I read that I slammed the book shut and didn't pick it up for days on end. Then there is some mysterious underground empire that has been dwelling under the surface of the earth. Don't you think some one would...more

Finally finished after 3 days reading it(about 7 hours) it's really good, but there are some part which are really bothering:

1. The part when author described a place or something, that is really hard to be imagined. Or bc I'm just stupid so I can't imagine
2. The part when Josh had found the Codex Ix, and the next chapter just started without any clue. (When NRO interogates Josh)
3. The part when the bakabs are in a meeting. It's just really long

But, there's a best part when Josh finally found th...more

Seems like the author had a great idea for this book, but was not able to finish it. The main character, Josh, is a very well developed character and easy to like. The plot, not so easy. The idea is great and very unique but lags at times. I was also disappointing at the ending which made it seem like the author ran out of ideas. Sometimes it was exciting and I wanted to read. Most times, I just wanted to finish. Overall, I am glad I got this book for cheap and it was a decent read. The idea of...more

Suitable for gr. 6-10. Action, adventure, Mayan doomsday prophecy, intrigue, archaeology, UFO’s. There is something for everyone in this book. The story will keep the reader interested, even though there are a few things that don’t quite ring true (three 13-year-olds hopping on a transcontinental flight with seemingly unlimited funds and no passport worries?). Overall, though, a fairly good read that will appeal to both boys and girls. 3 more books in the series are available as of April 2011.

The Joshua Files: Invisible City
‘My house was robbed’
This is an amazing adventure novel that will thrill any reader. Its about a boy named Joshua; his father was suposedly killed. He does some investigation and finds some very important clues. He goes to Mexico with some of his friends to find out the truth. My favorite part of the book is when Joshua finds a very interesting person in Mexico, someone that will also help with the investigation. I give this novel 2 1/2 stars for its thrilling a...more

There has been much speculation on the whole 2012 apocalyptic theories. Some think that a disease will wipe out humanity, others think that a meteor will hit earth, and others have a few other crazy ideas. Yet, in this book you find that the apocalypse theory is a very creative one with an antagonist who actually has a reason for being against the protagonist. Although this book is much influenced by the same old government conspiracy idea, it stands apart from it as well. For one instance, the...more

Setelah s...more
