My Ridiculous, Romantic Obsessions
Sarah Howard's first year at the university is everything and nothing she expected especially when a very cute boy named Ben in her Art History class starts to show interest in her.
Sarah feels like she's an average, normal, everyday girl. So, when Ben (to whom she secretly refers as Adonis because she thinks he could be a Greek god) begins to take interest in her, Sarah is...more

Let me open this review with a big, fat, huge, 'IN MY DEFENSE' pre-qualifying statement, since I am a MAN and apparently this isn't the type of book I should be reading. (According to one of the ninnies who complained about my review of another YA chicklit).
The bookstore where I work has an employee-reading-incentive program, where if you read a handful of books off of the approved list, you get perks. I like perks. Perks are like mass, accleration and gravity in the sense that they make the wor...more

I was hooked from the opening scene and finished this book during one delightful plane ride to Hawaii. The book opens with Sarah's parents dropping her off at college, and it seems they can't drive away fast enough. Turns out, they're leaving for a cruise.
Let me share: I am the youngest of four children, and by the time I was a teenager, my parents had checked out of the whole parenting thing. Lucky for them I liked school and didn't have a wild streak because I had almost no supervisio...more

My Ridiculous Romantic Obsessions is a charming, breezy read for people who love their romances light (occasionally cheesy), flirty and clean.
Sarah has a thing for romance novels and is the kind of girl who daydreams about love and romance. The main plot line is about Sarah wanting to be "the heroine" in her own romance story. She dated a jerk in the past which has left her feeling insecure and like she is always destined to be the leading girls side-kick friend without her own man. Ent...more

Sarah Hastings is a love struck mess, fantasizing constantly of romance, heroines, prince charmings happy endings; the problem is, she never plays the leading part in her fantasies. A new college freshman finally free from her parents, Sarah is an intelligent young woman with a mess of curls proclaiming to be down to earth and witty. She has always been her own worst critique since the Jesse Chandler incident in high school. But this is a...more

I met Becca Wilhite at the LDStorymaker Conference this spring. She was the mentor at my bootcamp table and not only is she super nice, but she knows what she's talking about when it comes to giving writerly advice.
My Ridiculous Romantic Obsession is full of fun situations, swoony romance and a character with tons of voice. Sarah is always arguing with herself in her head and it endears her. I wondered at times if she may be a touch crazy, but she seems about as normals as most teen girls.

I can't bring myself to give it more stars, because then it would seem the book contends with the likes of Persuasion or Jane Eyre... However, I actually did enjoy this book. The writing is clever, although too juvenile at times, and I liked that the book was no longer than was necessary for the story. What I liked most about this book, however, was more personal: I can relate to the main character. So much so, in fact, that I wonder if Becca Wilhite knows me and wrote it about me. I have also o...more

This is also meant for young adult. In this book Sarah starts college in Arizona and meets Ben. Sarah has red, curly, crazy hair and Ben is a tall, funny, handsome guy. Ben is always trying to hang out with Sarah and she thinks it's because he is trying to be nice when he really likes her. After about a month of hanging out and being friends Ben slips out that he is Dyslexic. Sarah doesn't know how she feels about that, but is glad that they are...more

I know that so many people loved this story... but I had such a hard time with it!!
I understand that Sarah had an emotionally scarring back story. I know situations like that happen all too often, but somehow this event left her, not only with low self-esteem, but also with a really high level of stupidity. Is anyone really, truly this dense? She made me crazy! The guy likes you... get over this "ridiculous" hurdle and MOVE FORWARD!!

Would you guess from the title that this book is about romance? Yes? Then you’d be correct! Sarah is a typical girl, not a blonde bombshell or a supermodel, just an average college freshman. When she meets gorgeous, Greek god-like Ben, she wonders why someone like him would fall for someone like her. Does he really like her or does he just want help for their art history class? After being dissed like that by a guy before, Sarah has determined never to let that happen a...more

(Genre:LDS YA fiction/romance) This story focuses on a college freshman who suffers from a low self esteem and just cannot see herself as the romantic heroine in her own love story (she's read a lot of books and she thinks that she just doesn't fit the mold). So when a really cute boy starts showing an interest in her, she is expecting the relationship to end before it even gets started. Her low self esteem can be traced to a boy in high school who led her on and then "dropped" her in a very pub...more

Sarah has two things against her 1) she was once hurt by the mean Jesse and 2) Her brain continually lives in a romantic novel where she doesn't consider herself a heroine in her own book. Thus with these two strikes against her she enters her first class in her college career where she meets the handsome Adonis (as she likes to call him). She of course because of reason 1 and 2 knows that Adonis/Ben would know way ever be interested in her. Even though Ben does things to show he is interested s...more
My Ridiculous, Romantic Obsessions was cute, fun, and completely charming.
Sarah is smart, sweet, and pretty good at playing the guitar. However, she's also pretty good at playing mind games (unintentionally). After a disasterous experience with a guy, she tends to think that no one is interested in her, when it's quite obvious that they are. So when she meets Ben (sweet, nice, cute Ben), things get a little complicated.

Dulu saya pernah mencoba baca roman harlequin.

Sarah is a college freshman. She's feeling a little abandoned by her parents and removed from her roommates. And she's coming off of a traumatic high school experience. On the first day of class, she ends up in an art history study group with Ben. When Ben becomes more involved in her life, Sarah has to determine whether she can trust him or whether her romantic obsessions have gotten the best of her.

I took this on my cruise for a little "brain candy" reading. What a delightful read. It was a bit like talking with your best friend. As I read passages that made me laugh to my husband, he said that he thought I was enjoying it because the author writes like I talk. Probably correct, he's known me for over 30 years now!

Wow. All I can say is that I adored this book. Thank you, Becca Wilhite.
What starts out as a lighthearted, giggle inducing read turned into a book that just about any girl who has been heart broken and, in turn, suffered self doubt due to said heartbreak, can relate to. That being said, I thought it was fresh, charming, sometimes cheesy (but utterly romantic) story about first love, which I would recommend to just about anyone.

I got it yesterday noon in the mail, and it didn't last to dinner. it is really short, yes, but this is also the kind of book that puts you in a good mood. 100% romantic comedy, 100% drama-free, 100% smiling material, etc, etc, etc. I probably couldn't live my life on this kind of books alone, but it's nice to find a fun read like this once in a while.

So maybe I am in the wrong crowd here...but this book was a bit hard to swallow, "ridiculous" even. Are there really people like this? Who think so loudly in their heads that the words actually slip out and humiliate them without meaning to? Sarah's little dilemma is just dragged on for far too long...the whole "he is just being nice to me" bit got really annoying. The characters were college students but this book really felt like it belongs with the teeny boppers who get huge, dramatic crushes...more

Recommends it for:
anyone who wants a clean romance and a giggle or two.
I related to the main character, Sarah. She is off to her first year of college, leaving home for the first time. She takes a class because there is a "hot" TA, that girls like to drool over instead of the professor.
One day after class, someone asks if anyone would like to be part of a study group, Sarah raises her hand and turns to find a guy that looks like "Adonis". She refers to him in her inner conversations as Adonis, doesn't find out his first name. He wants to spend time with her, she is...more

A very nice clean teen book. I laughed a lot, remembering similar dating scenarios of my own at that age. Ha! (A fourth grader could read this, for those of you who have advanced readers in your home.) Personally, I think this is perfect for someone who has just started dating. There are so many young ladies/men out there that have self-image issues due to failed relationships. As such, the main character can't see how beautiful she really is because of the last relationship she was in. The male...more
I didn't know what to expect, going into this book, but I absolutely loved it. It was so cute, so fun, so funny, and so wonderfully CLEAN. No profanity or anything else questionable...a book I could hand my daughter without any worries.
My only regret, as happens so often, is that the "happy ending" was so short. I always wish that after so much struggle and trouble, the main characters would get to enjoy their happiness a little longer before the book's end.

In many ways, I could relate to this book. It made me think about the way I approach new friendships and relationships. But I also had to frequently remind myself that it's just a book. In my own life, I need to approach my experiences in my own way. I was occasionally frustrated with Sarah--especially when she ignored the obvious truths in favor of her own fantasies. The middle of the book dragged a little and the end was too abrupt. I also wish that I had gained more insight into Ben's charact...more

I'll admit, I went into this book with a predisposition to like it, b/c I've been emailing back and forth with the author for a few weeks now. However, I'm so opinionated about books, I don't know that really affected it much.

“I know the formulahe wants her she refuses him he charms her she holds her ground he does something dramatic like saves her from a fire or reinstates her family's lost fortune or dies she realizes she loved him all along wedding bells ring or pirate flags unfurl or she joins a convent happily ever afterbut I don't expect to live that way. I've learned that life is not like novels. Especially not like novels with rippling muscles on paperback covers.
After reading a couple hundred of those booksyou know hypothetically speakingyou start to see that there's not that much difference between a romance and an epic fantasy. You've got your quest sometimes it involves a ring and a hero who will stop at nothing to do what he has to. The difference is usually the girl. And I'm not that girl.
I'm not the girl who inspires men to commit acts of heroism. In real life those girls speak much more quietly and breathe a lot louder than I do. I'm not the girl who strikes men speechless with her beauty. Really really not. I don't even know how to flutter my eyelashes. But that's life. Not romance-novel life just real life.”
