The most shocking secret in the history of mankind is about to be revealed...A murderer is on the loose on the streets of New York City: nicknamed the Doomsday Killer, he's claimed six victims in just two weeks, and the city is terrified. Even worse, the police are mystified: the victims have nothing in common, defying all profiling, and all that connects them is that each...more

Excellent! Those who haven't read it yet have a treat in store for them. This book lives up to its promotion and then some.

I was not too sure when I started if I was going to like it (slightly over-use of the F-word and a particular scene that was unsettling violence personally). But that all quickly fades into the background as the well-written story takes off.

I so don't want to ruin this masterfully written story for anyone else but if you like suspense, I heartily recommend Secret of the Seve...more

Stopped at the local Borders for a “beach read” and found this book in the “bargain” section. What a find! The story jumps from present day to early days (starting at 777) to post WWII as it reveals a library of sorts discovered on an island owned by England. Since England had enough on their plate to recoup after the War, they contact President Truman. The story opens with a class reunion of four college roommates, one currently an FBI agent. Will Piper is one of the best hunters of serial kill...more

Whilst on a recent holiday with friends in a rental property in the Dordogne region of France; where I had gone to soak up the history and archaeology of the area – particularly the spectacular examples of Cave art; I was loaned a copy of “ Library Of The Dead “.

Being a voracious reader of varied interests I was delighted to receive this unexpected windfall – as I had, in my usual disorganised way, omitted to pack any books to read. A glance at the précis on...more

Very, very interesting book with a refreshingly original idea. Library of the Dead starts off as your usual serial homicide story, seemingly unsolvable, until you find out what really happens. You'll never be able to guess. This is a very refreshing alternative to the usual religious-conspiracy-secrets genre. Still finds its roots in some ancient brotherhood that just has to be related to Christianity, but it's not what you think. This book is full of surprises that will keep you turning page af...more
Oh good lord, can you say cliched? There were some interesting and occasionally chilling moments in this book but they were few and far between. The main character was appallingly misogynistic - he's only attracted to the main love interest when she's lost weight and basically changed her personality. The main antagonist was a far more believable and sympathetic character than the hero whose characterisation kept this novel at severely third level thriller.

The basic premise was interesting enoug...more
This was not the story I was expecting. But it was a pleasant surprise. At first it seemed like there were three or four completely unconnected stories going on, murders in present day New York, dodgy goings on in England just after WWII, strange monks in AD777. None of them seemed to have any link. And there was no mention of a library!! Most confusing.
However it does all come together and provides some suspense as the FBI agent in charge of the murder investigation tries to workout what is go...more
E aquele final tenebroso. Não havia necessidade...

What a nice story! I definitely want more. Glenn Cooper rocks!

Every so often I like to temper my reading with something that is more like a pastime — the kind of non-taxing reading that this book promised to be. There are a few rules that are required to enjoy this type of work: turn off one’s critical mindset; don’t worry too much about the writing as such; concentrate more on the plot; and don’t expect too much in characterisation (usually two-dimensional, if you’re lucky, and all the men at least seeming never to have matured beyond a sexist college men...more

I am surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. It was recommended to me by a friend and I wasn't sure I would like it but read it anyway, mostly to humour her. Library of the Dead, started out slow, and confusing. There are a number of different timelines woven into the book, 777AD, 1947 and 2009, each with their own story. As I read, I wondered how they would all come together and I don't mind saying, I was a little confused as each time frame told a completely separate story. However, each st...more

En La Bibl...more
Very disappointing after what sounded like a promising story.

I gave this book to page 140, but by that point I still saw no connection between the large number of people, time-frames [present and past] and stories the author introduced. I have no issue with lots of characters, and I don't even mind a book that jumps around between past and present. But there needs to be SOME connecting thread that allows you to go on the journey with the characters. This book didn't do that.

It was almost like ev...more

Tocca a Will scoprire come abbia fatto il killer a uccidere tante persone diverse in mod...more

3.5ish stars, overall. To be honest, I expected a bit more of the supernatural than it ended up having, but it was still an interesting story, blending history, thriller, mystery, religion and, as I said, a bit of the supernatural. The main character, Will Piper, is a heavy drinking FBI agent, just interested in lasting until his retirement after a scandal derailed his career. But, there seems to be a serial killer on the loose, and profiling is his specialty. Despite him not being my usual sort...more

This is a new author for me and it turns out a new author in general Mr. Cooper takes us to an 8th century monastery where a 7th son of a 7th son is born on the 7th day of the 7th month of 777 … now we all know that can’t be good thing … turns out is isn’t! From there we travel to Winston Churchill’s war bunker and on to present day Area 51. What do all these things have in common? Aliens? You would think so but no, no, no you would be so wrong. Enter Will Piper, a hard drinking FBI agent on the...more
True that nobody expects more than entertainment from these suspense / thriller / mystery books, and for sure is not hoping for a piece of great literature to materialize in their hands.......... but, the minimum basic language skills, or requirements to determine what gets to be published or doesn't, are those to be given up as well? The language in this book is so white trash, I mean, what do you need to call yourself a writer? Is being able to type on a computer all that is needed for people...more
Good mystery/thriller type story.
This book jumped out at me at the library because of the title, 'Library of the Dead' - seemingly combining two of my favourite things; libraries and morbid curiosity.
The serial killing aspect publicised within the blurb is a bit of a misnomer, however, the intricate plots and sub-plot, shifts through time and the whole premise of the book - a library containing secret and dangerous knowledge - maintained my interest.
Admittedly, some of the main characters are a...more
