Peter Wibaux's engaging work of historical fiction does an excellent job of putting a human face on the Portuguese maritime explorations; a topic that is usually approached in dry, fact-heavy works of non-fiction. His characters are very real and believable and as far as I can tell, reflect the attitudes and personalities of the historical figures they represent. His use of science and politics in the story serve as tools to make the story both informative and entertaining, while at the same ...more

As they say in the stock market, full disclosure. In this case it means I wrote the book.

If you're busy, this book is an excellent read. The India Road is structured in short chapters, each of which tells it's own tale - the chapters coalesce to teach you about the start of globalization—the discovery of the sea route from Europe to India.

If you never liked history at school, read The India Road.
