I have previously enjoyed several books by Christie Ridgway, most recently, I read the Knitting trilogy and was excited that another set was coming out. So far, I am not impressed.

For a first book, Crush never gave enough information about the sisters and why I should care about their upcoming novels. To be honest, I came away from this book more interested in the Bennetts, especially the missing Bennett sister, whom I hope shows up in one of the other books.

For a first book, Crush never gave enough information about the sisters and why I should care about their upcoming novels. To be honest, I came away from this book more interested in the Bennetts, especially the missing Bennett sister, whom I hope shows up in one of the other books.

Crush on You is the story of Penn Bennett, recently discovered heir to the Bennett wine fortune, and Alessandra Bacci, youngest daughter of the Bacci family.

Alessandra was a bit weepy and undecided for me. Her fiance died before they could get married and she has lived with that for five years. The entire town treats her with kid gloves and she lets them. I believe the reader was supposed to feel sympathy for her, and I did to a point, Allie was ultimately in charge of how the town treated her and how she treated others.

She did manipulate regardless of how badly the author didn't want to read to think that. From crying to try and get the construction foreman to stay to giving big, weepy eyes to the delivery boys, she did abuse the position of being "Tommy's girl" to get her way and it was annoying.

Penn, on the other hand, I liked. He was the right mix of strong and sweet. I enjoyed his back story and wish more time had been spent establishing his relationship with his brothers. While the reader was given a lot of Penn's back story, his time in the present was never really discussed outside of his love of Allie.

By far my favorite thing about this book was the relationship between Gil and Clare. For secondary characters, there were incredibly fleshed out and, to me, overshadowed the main couple most of the time. They were the reason I kept reading. I almost wish they had been given a book.

Ridgway is a great writer and the story flowed well and kept my interest. I will read the other books in the trilogy, I'm especially interested in the story of Guiliana but with my luck, it's the last book.(less)

I adored the opening scenes of this book - filled with humor, sadness, insight and immediately making the reader want to know who Alessandra is and what happened to her - it kicks off a book I read through in a single sitting.

The inital meeting between Alessandra and Penn doesn't disappoint, and neither does their chemistry throughout the book or how Ridgway layers both backstories along the way.

OK. This is my FIRST Ridgway book and I liked her style. :) What can I say about the book?? Well, only thing that had me picking this one was for the winery theme. I had loved The Seductive One which was about this Italian family running winery.

Considered the "Nun of Napa" due to her nonrelationships for the past 5 years, Alessandra Baci is all set to enter into a secret affair with Penn "Build Me Up" Bennett. My Thoughts:
The first book in the Three Kisses trilogy was a fast, fun, and sexy read. I loved all the family dynamics and getting to know the Baci sisters and Bennett brothers. There were essentially two romantic story lines in this book. One of course about Penn and Allie and the other revolved around Allie's cousin Gil and Allie's friend Clare. I really like Penn. He tried to be jerky but his true niceness couldn't be stomped out. I love that Christie had the fans of his show shouting "build me up" and taking their tops off so that Penn could throw them promotional shirts from his hit show. Those were funny moments. Penn is sexy and confident. I had a more love hate attitude towards Allie. I understood what she went through. There are many things that make Allie how she is today. The male population in Edenville treat Allie as if she is still Tommy's girl and Tommy's mother still refer to Allie as that. Allie can't escape her good girl image and has been living like a nun so Penn threatens this existence because she is too aware of him sexually. I get that but her attitude sometimes rubbed me the wrong way especially at the end. What kept me interest in this book when I wasn't too happy with Allie was the secondary story line involving Gil and Clare. These two are childhood best friends. Clare is set to marry and she is marrying at Tanti Baci. Gil is having issues with the impending marriage of his best friend Clare. A recent experience has made him realize he loves her. I really enjoyed Gil and Clare. I love those friends to lover story line. So this story kept me glue to the book. Other secondary characters like the Baci sisters and the Bennett brothers helped move this book along too. I can't wait to find out more about the hostility between the two oldest siblings from the Baci and Bennett family. All and all I enjoyed the first book and would recommend it if you are looking for a humorous, easy fun, and sexy read that has a small town feel and lots of big fun family drama this is the book for you.

What I found most interesting about this book was that besides the main romance between Alessandra and Penn there was a secondary romance between Alessandra’s best friend and her cousin, and to me that secondary romance completely stole my heart. He only plans on being in town for a little while and figures he might as well teach her a few things while he is there.

I mostly enjoyed this book. I cannot rate it higher than 3 1/2 stars because it was too easy to put down (I actually paused in the middle and read another book). I wasn't drawn into the story so much that I wanted to stay up late and keep reading. Alessandra and Penn just weren't that exciting to me. On the other hand, Clare and Gil were. They were the secondary couple, but were more interesting and completely deserving of a book of their own. I understand how the two stories played together, but they just didn't flow together well for me. It felt too abrupt moving between the two stories. Plus, every time it went back to Allie and Penn, I was a little disappointed. I really, really, really wanted to keep reading about Clare and Gil. How could you not love a guy called "The Italian Stallion?"

Maybe lately I have been reading too many 3 brothers or 3 sisters (or both--like this one), but it is becoming a little too overdone for me. I'm almost bored with the siblings stories and look forward to more friends/other family stories in these sorts of series. With that being said, I am still looking forward to reading about the other 2 sisters. There was just enough seed planted about oldest sister Guiliana to make me most interested in her story.

I enjoy Ridgway's writing and her characters, so I look forward to more from her.

Despite the awesome beginning of the book where Alessandra Baci is putting on her five year old wedding dress on the day of her would-be anniversary, she is not pining away for her would-be husband. Allie is a woman that lives life to its fullest. She’s a person that cares about the needs of others. It’s not until the end of the book that she realizes exactly what she has done by staying in mourning for five years, but it’s not because she was actually mourning her fiancé. Cryptic, I know.

Penn Bennett just found out who his father was and has recently met his half brothers. When he first sees Alessandra, she is flying out of the house in flip-flops and a wedding dress begging her contractors not to leave the Baci wedding cottage (and sole business investment) unfinished. It’s while he’s watching her that he sees her turn on the waterworks and get what she wants. Penn has no idea that he’s witnessing the Nun of Napa get her way.

What’s so great about Allie being the Nun of Napa is that she deserves it. She has shouldered the grief of the town and she deserves a little credit. She takes an immediately dislike to Penn even as she is physically attracted to him. The same goes for Penn. He has little use for manipulative women and that is exactly what he sees Allie as. That doesn’t mean they can’t engage in a flaming hot affair.

It’s a small town, so there is a lot of meddling going on. Penn wants nothing more than to leave town but he can’t tear himself away from Allie. Allie is afraid to have any more feelings than lust for Penn because of the heartbreak she went through before. Any feelings she has now are going to be more intense to have and to lose. She doesn’t know if she can risk that. In the end it is Allie that has to take a risk and it made me love her character even more.

Wow - talk about hot!

I blew through this book so fast, and now I'm wishing I had savoured it more. Which means it will probably be added to my re-read shelf sometime in the future.

The first scene, with Alessandra in her unused wedding dress, is a wonderful teaser, and sets up the whole novel beautifully. Then there's Penn, a nice guy trying to be mean and tough, who Alessandra can't keep her hands off.

I'm a big contemporary fan. I love contemporary books, they're my favorite. I've never tried any Christie Ridgway books even though Holly really enjoyed her Knitting series. I picked up this book thinking that I was going to love it.

Penn grew up with his strapped-for-cash waitress mother. Times were tough but Penn has more than made up for those rough times; Penn is the host for a home renovation show called Build Me Up. The legitimate Bennett brothers, Liam and Seth, feel guilty about their father’s indiscretions and invite Penn up to the winery to share in the inheritance.

Allie needs to get the cottage renovated in time for the winery’s first wedding. Adding to the pressure, the wedding is for her good friend Clare, Tommy’s sister. When the contractor Allie hired to renovate the cottage fails to show up because he has taken a higher paying job, Penn comes to the rescue. Being that the Bennett’s are silent partners in the Tanti Baci winery, it is in their best interest to do what they can to see that the cottage gets finished in time. This wedding business is there last hope of survival for the Tanti Baci winery.

Allie captures Penn’s interest right from the start. She’s gorgeous and Penn can’t help but notice. Penn is also determined to get the infamous Nun of Napa in the sack. Allie’s attention is caught by Penn’s good looks and decides to escape the rut she’s been in for the past 5 years by having a secret affair with Penn.

The connection between Allie and Penn fell flat and lost my interest. I am not convinced that the ending was the best outcome. It felt rushed and disjointed. There were some laugh out loud moments but the romance aspect of the book left much to be desired, particularly in the steamy love scene department. A secondary love story took center stage for me. I was more in tune and more connected with those characters than I was with Allie and Penn. I found myself looking forward to the outcome of these secondary characters’ fate more so than I was with Allie and Penn.

There is a back story between one of the Baci sisters, Giuliana, and one of the Bennett brother, Liam. Jules has been holding a grudge against Liam for the past 10 years. I’m guessing that the 2nd and 3rd installment of this series will follow Giuliana and Stephania in their journey towards a happily ever after. But I do wonder if it will involve the two remaining Bennett bachelors…? Hmm, this could get interesting as there once was a flame between Jules and Liam.

How convenient is it then, that Penn Bennett, TV personality, Hollywood Hottie and star of his own wildly successful home renovation show Build Me Up is home visiting his half brothers Liam and Seth Bennett, who also just happen to own their own winery and are the Baci sisters biggest rivals.

From the moment Penn spies Alessandra complete in her wedding dress (and pajamas), rubber soles of her flip-flops slapping against the heels of her feet, flying across the yard towards him, he can't help but be captivated by the youngest Baci sister. And after a few fake tears (yes he knows they're fake and calls her on it), no one is more surprised than Penn himself when he offers up his handyman services in order to get the renovations done on time.

Alessandra may not like the Bennett's (but does Penn really count since he's the newly discovered bastard son?), but she knows better than to look a gift horse in the mouth - or in this case a Bennett and so she accepts his helping hand. A hand attached to the end of a very infuriating, exceedingly hot Bennett that makes her girl parts tingle.

Neither Penn nor Alessandra is looking for a long term relationship. After all she's not called the Nun of Napa for no reason after her own wedding day ended tragically five years earlier when her fiancé didn't make it to his own "Big Day". And Penn is only home for a short time and has no intention of giving up his bachelor ways in LA. Yet neither can deny that they definitely throw off the sparks whenever they are around each other. Makes for some fun and muy caliente reading!

No review would be complete without mentioning Gil. It's always an unexpected pleasure when the secondary characters in a book are almost as interesting as the main ones. I fell just a little bit in love with him and his storyline is what made Crush on You more than worth reading for me. Gil is Alessandra's cousin, but also more importantly the best friend and "Maid of Honor" for Clare who's own impending nuptials are scheduled to be the first at the Baci Wedding Cottage. Mmmmm wonder how that turned out? Gil and Clare's story deserves its own book! Maybe a prequel?

Crush on You will certainly make you laugh, may even make you tear up and it's the perfect summer read for a lazy day at home or the beach. (less)

I liked this just fine but I just can't get past the idea that I've read it before which was a feeling I had with me the entire book. It was very strange because I know I have not read this author before. Anyway I liked it and I've already got book 2 on hold at the library.

Edited to add: I figured out where I thought I had read this before! The is a short story by Christie Rigway in an anthology called Double the Heat. It story is called Original Zin and the it is about the romance of Zinn Frida...more

I have never read anything by Christie Ridgway, but I am glad I picked it up. It was funny, frustrating, heartbreaking, but mostly it was endearing. I wished that we knew more about the sisters, maybe a flashback or anything, and the brothers (and sister) are very intriguing and hope that we get to see all of them mated at some point. I enjoyed Penn's character and Alessadra's romantic ideas. The two were great together

When I saw that Christie Ridgway had come out with a new book, I was excited because I normally enjoy her stuff. But this one seemed to be missing something. I just never got into it and it took me about two weeks to read because I kept putting it down and then finishing other books. I'll still read the other two books in the series, but honestly I was a little disappointed by this one.

My first time reading a book by Ms. Ridgway and I must say it was enjoyable. I'll be reading the rest of the series. I actually liked the story of Clare and Gil and sort of wished they had their own book. Usually I don't like when authors go back and forth between lots of characters in the book but in this case I couldn't wait to find out about Clare and Gil also.

well so it was... it was...
well I don't remember the book! I read it a year ago and even with reading the two other book of the series I couldn't remember a thing about this story! so I guess that didn't impact much in my brain. I usually remember a thing or two i found cute or funny... here? nada, nothing, rien.

so non memorable read here. a quick light useless chit-lit book. perfect for a summer day at the beach.

Shelves: romance, good-lakehouse-reads

Perfect beach/vacation book. A quick read, not too deep, it's full of light, sexy, fun romance. I like that it's following several characters and storylines that are somewhat entwined. It ended a little abruptly and I did roll my eyes a little bit, but overall, I really enjoyed this and will be following the author for more light summer reads.

Christie Ridgway is one of my favorite authors. She didn't disappoint me with this book either. This is the first book in the Three Kisses Trilogy about the Baci sisters. I'm looking forward to the next book in the trilogy. Crush on You had romance, passion and humor. It warmed my heart.
