Well, I never read Spawn, but this reminded me of it. Two brothers, one is hired by a the government as a secret extractor of sorts (getting people out of situations, resolving situations) and a priest that sees a hooker three times a week using church funds. Well, "Mercenary Brother" is killed because of a mission error and his spirit begins to walk side by side with the Priest brother, trying to right the wrongs and protect his wife (The Mercenary Brother's wife). The Priest brother has no cho...more

This is a very weird comic. The story itself is good, it’s just very unusual. The idea is very unlike other comic book heroes. There is a lot of violence and blood. The artwork is very good and the colors work well with the drawings. Its by the same guy who drew the invincible comics, so I really wanted to read these. I would read the others in the series, but it’s not one that I feel the need to read. The story seems like its just going to be repeating itself with a different...more

This is the second new book I added to my box/pull list at my comic shop along with SWEET TOOTH. I am a huge fan of Robert Kirkman and have been a long time reader of THE WALKING DEAD and INVINCIBLE. Although I missed some of Robert's other great work once I heard Todd McFarlane was a co-creator and inker on this book I had to jump on it.
I remember when Todd McFarlane unleashed SPAWN on the world and being a die-hard Marvel fanboy (hey I was eleven) I shunned the book and missed out a once and a...more

Wow, the violence is over the top in this story. It's not meant to be taken seriously, as Kirkman writes some gory mutilation or murder on roughly half of the pages of this collection, but it is definitely what made the biggest impression on me. Aside from the violence, this is a pretty good story. A priest who doesn't take his responsibilities very seriously finds himself haunted by the ghost of his estranged brother, and occasionally they combine into a Spawn-style antihero who jumps around an...more
Not being a big super hero comics fan, I picked up on the similarities to Spider-Man and some other lesser known super heroes (lesser known by me, but probably not in the super hero comics world), but I couldn't name them, their appearance as well as their powers reminiscent of multiple super hero tropes.
All in all I got this because it was new, because the back story and the story archs are just being created, there's not a high barrier of entry as if I were to begin reading Spidey...or Venom,...more

Robert Kirkman (Walking Dead) and Todd McFarlane (known for Spawn but still, for me, best Spider-Man artist EVER for what he did with webs) and Greg Capullo combine to make an engaging hero out of a reluctant Priest who's brother (para-military operative) dies during a mission but in dying, becomes his inner voice/alternate ego while empowering him with crazy Venom-like powers. He gives up the whole priest thing and follows in his brother's footsteps to become an operative. Really cool story wit...more
This book is just... just plain awful. The characters are one-dimensional--completely forgettable--& the book is full of "been-there-done-that" structures.
One of the main characters is a self-absorbed cynical/rogue priest who indulges in sin more than tending his flock--sleeping with whores, etc. How original. Tom Judge anyone? How about Jesse from Garth Ennis' far superior books? We discover the priest is seriously flawed because of the fact his brother stole the only woman he ever loved aw...more

I'm still undecided when it comes to this series. I think the idea is really interesting, but I'm not quite sold on how it's being done. I believe this is a limited series, so I'm not sure how long this storyline will last, and I think it's definitely a concept that won't last long term (at least not the way it's been handled). I love Robert Kirkman, so I plan to keep reading, but this isn't my favorite of his work by a long shot. Cool idea, but he's definitely done better with Walking Dead and...more
It's pretty derivative of McFarlane's Spawn and Venom projects from last century. Interesting story idea, bad pacing, really abrupt and unnecessary corner-turn at the end to set up various possible plotlines. But now that one thread has been tied up, do I really care enough about entirely new, unearned plots to come? The story has wrapped up enough that I have to evaluate whether I want to see more of this writing on its own merits, and I really feel indifferent to it all.

This character is clearly meant to be a Spawn knock-off, and as such it's pretty decent. By combining Spawn with a hefty dollop of Venom and a touch of Preacher, they've managed to come up with a fairly interesting take that's both familiar and somewhat fresh at the same time. I would've preferred that it take longer for the guy to master his powers, but the secret agent subplot is intriguing enough to forgive that.
5 stars. Everything I read by Kirkman is amazing and Haunt is no exception. A really promising set up with his normal fast pace clipping things along at a satisfying rate. This has the grit and gore of Walking Dead but a touch of the humour of Marvel Zombies. I'll definitely be picking up the next instalment.

This is a new comic book series from IMAGE. Very cool. The set up is like LOST with a lot of teasers and hints that will come together as the series progresses. I am thoroughly enjoying the first five issues so far!
A dark story about two brothers, one is a struggling priest and one is a government agent, who have never gotten along but are forced to work together in a way no one expected. Kirkman's writing is at it's finest in Haunt and the art, done by Ottley, Capullo, and McFarlane, create a dark and lush world not found in most comics.
