I put myself on the library hold list for this one after sitting through an episode or two of The City. I thought Whitney Port was sweet and Kelly Cutrone was awesome.

My hold came up today and, since there are more than a dozen people waiting behind me, I thought it only polite to drop my other reading and get to this one right away. As it turned out, I read it in one sitting.

Cutrone's style (with co-writer Meredith Bryan) doesn't waste words. It fits closely to the charact More...

Kelly Cutrone has appeared on the The Hills, The City and her own series Kell on Earth. She also runs People’s Evolution. If You Have to Cry, Go Outside: And Other Things Your Mother Never Told You surprised me. I didn’t expect much but I really enjoyed some of the key messages of the book:

1. Believe in Yourself

2. Find and listen to your inner voice

3. Focus on building a Tribe

4. Work hard

5. Give back

A good friend recommended this book so I wanted to read it from cover to cover.... And i wanted o love it I hated every minute of it... I kept hoping the book would improve. I thought that I'd suddenly turn a corner with Kelly and realize that she had stopped being a self-indulgent, go against the grain just to create waves, name dropping, self important person. Sadly, that never happened and I breathed a huge sigh of relief when I finished the last page.

The major theme through this book is to More...

My latest read was the newly released "If You Have to Cry, Go Outside" self-help book by legendary PR powerhouse Kelly Cutrone (of The Hills and The City fame).

I finished this 200-or-so-page book in about 2 hours, on and off during my latest airport trip, and I wished it had been twice as long! I ate up (mostly) everything Kelly had to say and I really enjoyed her honesty and sense of humor.

For those of you that now watch her new show on Bravo, "Kell on Earth" More...

My boss gave me a chapter from this book when I was having a hard time seeing eye-to-eye with a co-worker, who also happens to have a strong workplace personality. I read it on the train and came in the next morning breathless and excited about what I had read. My enthusiasm scored me major points with the boss, and she lent me the entire book the same day.

Cutrone is a bully. That's what really made me like this book, because - despite that - I like her. She's an unapologetic, vicious More...

‘B*tch: a reflection of people’s lack of creativity & inability to acknowledge & embrace a powerful woman; a woman who won’t comply’

Have you happened to read Kelly Cutrone’s new book … ‘If You Have to Cry, Go Outside’? Because I just finished it. The premise was all about personal experiences, funny anecdotes, embarrassing mistakes and a call for female empowerment. Some of it made me giggle … {see below}

Empowered women can’t wear wife-beaters? Guess I’m out. Lol. However More...

I could never really get into the faux “reality” shows on MTV like “The Hills” or “The City” because the people on those shows were tedious and maddening.

That being said, I always found Kelly Cutrone, the founder of the publicity firm, People’s Revolution (where both stars of “The Hills” and “The City” worked) to be the sort of woman I wish I could work for.

By her own account, she says that she’s been called a bitch and a cunt because she’s always been upfront in saying what More...

If You Have To Cry Go Outside by Kelly Cutrone tells the story of Kelly Cutrone’s rise to the top of the fashion PR world. Filled with tid-bits of advice, Cutrone tells a raw and unedited tale of hardships, partying, hard work and finally success.

This book combines personal stories with professional advice. The mix of personal and professional makes for an insightful and entertaining read.

Think Cutrone was always a power bitch? Think again. Cutrone went through a serious str More...

When I started watching "Kell on Earth" I was totally thinking that Kelly was my soul sister. She is the ballsy, in-your face New Yorker that I aspire to be while in New York (especially on subways and other places where assertiveness is required). Although I was expecting more of a tell-all from Kelly, I wasn't completely surprised that the PR Queen was strategic about the details of her personal life.

This book read as a series of career tips for her main audience-young More...

This book is about success, fashion PR C.E.O, Kelly Cutrone. The book talks about how to get started in PR business. It also talks about her early life and how to survive in NYC. The book has tips and tricks on how to get into fashion. The book is also about the people she met during her journey to being top PR company and how to keep friends and family close.

I can make a text to self connection. I actually know the author! We have been really close fiends ever since I was 7. She has More...

I decided to read this book because I've always had an interest in transitioning into publicity/PR and the book sounded like a great read for female professionals. I thought that, though I'm not necessarily interested in fashion, this would offer some solid career tips from someone that has seen it all. It did have a few tips here and there about being tough, but ultimately, it is titled and positioned incorrectly. It isn't about lessons for career women, but rather the author's memoir about how More...

I didn't intend to read this book over the weekend, but happened to pick it up and just couldn't put it down, and so over the course of a few hours on a Saturday afternoon, I found myself at the end of it, a little bit wiser and entertained.

Basically the book is a little bit autobiographical, giving details of Kelly Cutrone's life and how she got into the PR/publicity business. Along the way she includes details of what really makes a life worth living. I would categorize it as a hy More...

I read an extract from this book in my sister's Cosmopolitan magazine, and thought it was going to be full of hard-hitting, no-nonsense and funny advice. Unfortunately, it was really more of a memoir of Kelly Cutrone's life, and was very heavily focused on her spirituality, which I didn't enjoy.

The advice part of the book was scattered throughout the book, a sentence here, another there, and interspersed with Cutrone's spiritual beliefs. Personally, I found this very off-putting, and I More...

Kelly Cutrone kicks ass.

She kicks well-heeled, smart, witty, clad in black, motherly ass.

Period. No but's. No apologizes.

Ms. Cutrone is a woman that doesn't give a damn if you are standing on the side of the road with your mouth open, appalled that a woman is speaking her mind or being her own person. She is a powerhouse of experiences, highs, lows (and wow - what lows!) and a person of immense character with intense spiritual depth. This book is a motivati More...

This book, which I read for my new book group, grew on me somewhat as I read. I'd never heard of the author or her company prior to borrowing the book. I can't relate to the author and her world, and I didn't find her writing (co-writing?) style very polished. However, there were some nuggets of wisdom and some relate-able areas. I thought the chapter on branding yourself was right-on, and I had to chuckle at the section on Donald Trump, given his current doings. I appreciate her passion. Som More...

Reading this book is like being unexpectedly invited to the It party of the season and somehow finding yourself in conversation with the It Girl of the party, the one everyone had raved about. During the conversation, the It Girl monopolizes most of the conversation, and you nod along and don't dare interject because what could you possibly have to say to top her stories of being part of the NYC 1980's scene? As she then goes on about her spirituality you start to wonder if she's high or d More...

Interesting read. Kelly is such a raving hypocrite, but that is what makes the book funny (Completly unintentional, I'm sure). She is in PR and goes on and on about how honest she is, but then says; in her famous "we are all whores" statement justification, that she will endure a client talking BS because they pay her lots of money. And she devotes whole paragraphs to talking about how giving she is.
I was cracking up while reading the bizarre story of her suddenly being divinely More...

Ah, Kelly Cutrone. Was there anyone you feared more than her before her TV show came out? Probably, but the point is, you don’t now that you know deep down, she talks a good game but she’s really not that good at business.

And that’s kind of the book with this book - you buy it for the image of Kelly and now that her image is down, would you really read it? Now that you know her business style, would you take her advice?

The book isn’t totally worthless - there is go advice More...

This is the first book I've read "written" by a celebrity. Normally I stay away from celeb-reality books. However, Kelly Cutrone's personality and no-BS, sarcastic attitude have always intrigued me so I decided to read it.

First of all, this book confirms why I don't like to read celeb-reality books - their poor literary style. To be fair, I wasn't expecting David Sedaris or anything of that caliber. But I was a little surprised at how bad the writing was, especially since More...

Any girl looking to further her career or do well in life should probably read this book. Scratch that - they definitelyshould! Kelly Cutrone (of The Hills and The City fame - although even move admirable in her own show Kell on Earth) has written a guide to life in the only way that she could. Straight to the point and honest. Does she care about being called a 'bitch'? Are you kidding? She relishes it. That's because, to her, bitch is not a negative word. It's a woman in control of her life a More...

Kelly Cutrone is the founder of People’s Revolution, a fashion PR firm based in New York City. I’ve been watching her show on Bravo, Kell On Earth, and I find her puzzling. Sometimes she comes across as a savvy, ballsy businesswoman, refusing to take any lip from anybody. But on the other hand, most of the time she appears to be erratic, flighty and more than a bit unhinged. I got her new book, hoping to learn more. I got this book expecting mostly advice on succeeding in the fashion industry, though I'm not planning to pursue a career in it and was planning instead to apply the advice to my intended business career. However this book is nine-tenths a memoir organized loosely into "tips" that are hard to apply to yourself if you don't emulate her life completely. The actual career-related advice doesn't come until the very end of the book. Even so the memoir was very interesting to read, as Kelly More...

I read the book because we were engaged by the idea of having a tribe. When I started the book I felt like I was ordinary and none of her ideas applied to me. Maybe it's just that our inner voices are so different. Neither of us is right and neither wrong. I like mine and she likes hers. That's what she's writing about.

She said a couple of things that really made me think. "If you don't let what you don't know stop you from doing your best in every situation, you will surp More...

this came at the perfect point in my life.

i don't know how to explain it. it's very bare bones advice for life, but here's the thing - there is so much wisdom in it.

at least for someone like me. there were so many things that resonated with me, especially right now.

for example, the mantra of, you are not what you do.

I loved this book. I really thought I wasn't going to like it or get anything from it, but I took so many notes at evernote.com more so than any other book I have read. In Chapter 3, "It's not a breakdown, it's a breakthrough" she says that you can never know the good in life if you have never experienced the bad. How do you know what true joy/love is if you have never known heartbreak? How do you know what being happy is if you have never known pain?

I didn't expect that More...

After starting my acqaintance with this author through her second book, I was curious enough to locate this, her first. I wanted to be sure I agreed with Cutrone's worldview thoroughly enough to recommend her hard-nosed advice to my own daughters. And I do. And I am.

So, although her book might be filled with things "your mother never told you," in this case at least it's (mostly) filled with things this mother gives enthusiastic double thumbs-up to. Hard work, truth-telling More...

This book was a breath of fresh air when I didn't realize I needed it so bad.
This is about way more than what you see on Kell On Earth. It's more than a story of People's Revolution. It's about being a strong, independent, business woman of the universe with a spirit and soul.

The stories are there to inspire you to go on your own journey and to realize that the one you're on, may be the right one with the right perspective. Or, that the one you've always dreamed of, the one yo More...

I must say I was intrigued by Cutrone's book after seeing her on TV, and I like the idea of a strong, independent woman running her own business. But the chronology in this story is so disjointed and random, it makes me wonder what the message is she's actually trying to tell us. First she's a small-town girl in the big city, then a couch-surfing party girl kicked out of multiple apartments, then a drug addict in LA, then a tarot card reader, then finally a fashion publicist. I agree with her th More...

The first half was my favorite because it told the story of Cutrone's young life, which I enjoyed. She was a risk-taker and certainly had some exciting experiences.

Once the book more or less reached "present day" I became less interested. It's an advice book, so I shouldn't have expected different. She still included fun stories about her own life and paired those with her self-help portions. At least the how-tos and what-to-dos are very open-minded and encouraged being tr More...

I personally loved this -- it was not what I expected at all (career advice) but was instead like getting life lessons written by a beloved, eccentric and foul-mouthed aunt. I found Kelly Cutrone's advice to be so on-point at times that I felt like I was reading a book from a soul sister. I had to run right out and get her next one, Normal Gets You Nowhere, which unfortunately was not really like this one... instead it was more of an extended rant at society in general, and I tired of it quick More...
