Being that this was the first book/books that I read by Stephen King, I have to say I expected quite a bit. I have to say I underestimated how insane and intense his books are. The first two parts I have to say were definitely not my favorite, I was a little bored. Now that I finished I understand why you kind of needed that background story to fully understand this complex story. With that being said , I really enjo...more

This time I headed back towards the park and the shelter of a weeping willow, with the heron in the water, close by, watching, waiting; while I learned the fate of these men, and felt the helpless fury of Paul Edgecombe’s wife Janice as she realized what was to be.

She sat without answering. She sat that way for almost a full minute, and then she did something which shocked me as badly as my sudden flow of tears must have shocked her. She reached out and shoved everything off the table with one...more

Oh good memories. Back in the days my dad gave me such a great gift. He gave me this book, part 1 and told me that from now on, I could go to the bookstore in town each month, to get the next part of the series.

So every month I ran to the bookstore and immediately delved in. Never thinking it might be better to wait till I had all of them, before reading. couldn't, even if I wanted to.

So unlike most people, I did not read the whole book in one, but i read it in 6 sessions.
I am sure I re-read the...more

This was a fitting conclusion to the series. The story overall ranks among my top five favorites of King's novels. Paul Edgecombe and John Coffey are both very memorable characters, and some of the events of this tale (especially in parts 4 and 5) will stick with me for a long time. I was disappointed to see in the afterword that King doesn't expect to write another serialized novel because I thought this was a very effective and engaging way to tell a story. I highly recommend this novel (in ei...more

This was the greatest part of the story, definitely the autor closed this book masterfully, the end was simply brilliant with a beautiful order and managing of the words to leave to the reader full of satisfaction to read a work of art. I really recommend this book!!!

Okay, the ratings I gave the parts of this series may not reflect it, but this series had a big impact on me. Without the impact, I think they would be two and three star books, and I can only give impact one star. I will always recommend this (these) book(s) because even though I don't think it's the actual message, I realized lying is a horrible thing. At ten (the age I was while reading) I promised myself not to lie unless necessary, sort of in tribute to John Coffey. I still remember that ev...more

I read this set when it was first released and the thing I remember most is waiting each month for the next volume to be released, ruahing to the book store to grab a copy up and finding a quiet corner where I would be left alone. The story itself is one of my favorites, examining the full range of the human experience, right and wrong along with love and compassion. As far as I was concerned John Coffey could have been the second coming of Christ (if you believe in such things) and once again h...more

After having endured King’s four previous novels, I looked to THE GREEN MILE with a great deal of skepticism. The last fOUR had been novels thinly masking social commentary on feminism. I figured King’s constant reader was about to endure the man’s thoughts on capital punishment. I was so blissfully wrong.

What we got instead was perhaps King’s most socially significant work – perhaps his own thoughts on the place of Jesus Christ in a society that tortures and kills its own with what passes for l...more

I think I did this whole series in record time; no way would I have finished it so quickly if it had been bound all together, I don't think. So I guess I can't bitch about the serial thing, though I'm still glad I didn't have to wait a month for each one to come out.

A satisfying ending, I thought. All the loose ends got ties neatly up in as believable a fashion as one could expect, given what had transpired before. I had *totally* forgotten about what Paul was doing in the shed at the retirement...more

Hoo boy. If you're looking for a good cry, you'll probably get one reading this. I thought I was okay after the first heart-wrenching scene, but two or three more after that really got me going. But in a good way. The ending is reasonably satisfying, and kind of thought provoking. After all, since it's told in first person it's impossible to know for sure what happens to the narrator after the story is finished, and that kind of open-endedness is sort of neat for this sort of tale.

The Green Mile as a whole was one of the most wonderful and heartbreking novels I've evr come across. Stephen King has a way of making this book seem realistic in its ending. It's a tearjerker, no doubt, but in the end you'll feel satisfied; you'll feel as though this is life.
Another brilliant book by King, written extremely well and will keep you on the edge of your seat from page one of book one.
Make sure you have all the books at hand when you start!

I read them as they came out, and if I were to recommend anyone to read this I would highly suggest they read it the same way I did - one month apart. I would fly through the pages and just waiting to read the next one was such a thrilling experience. I'm glad King decided to do a serial novel, even if it is the only time he will ever do one. Excellent book.

I loved this series! This just gives me another reason to love Stephen King and his genius. And of course, throughout reading this I've had the urge to make some toast. This was a very magnificent story. And I'm so glad I got them at an old book store. Even if they're old and beaten up, they're also first editions. I'm planning to watch The Green Mile movie at the end of the week as well, I heard it was pretty good. Another edition to my favorites, I'll have to admit!

This entire storyline took me for a turn. When I first picked these books up I thought the story would be about the horrors of prison, especially about death row, but as I got into the story I figured out that it wasn't all about the horrors, but rather it was about the cruelness of the south back in the nineteen thirties. As I quickly read from installment to installment of this story I could feel the intense emotions coming through the pages. Although the story started slowly, I loved each boo...more

I love this story and it took me less than a hour to read. This is in the original dime store novel format that King had intended it to be released as so in essence it took 6 months of torturous tenterhooks it took me to read the book "The Green Mile". Would I do it again - HELL YES! I couldnt imagine reading it any other way

one of my favourite parts of the green miles series was the delivery.
a book a month, for 6 months - and no way to get it any sooner.
really great story, pieced out in an interesting way. Not something I'd want to see often, but really enjoyed the stories as well as the time in between the stories.
Laura
Beautifully written! An engaging story from book one to six. A murder mystery, a love story, a supernatural story. Wow! This series had it all.

Now I get to watch the movie and see the changes that have been made -- I'm most excited to see how they incorporate an almost fantastical world that is John Coffey onto the big screen.
Jamie
I am so glad this concluded so strongly. I was not disappointed with the progression of the story at any point. Now I have to watch the movie again to see how faithfully they kept to the story. From what I recall, it was pretty spot on. Not a surprise, then, why I liked the movie so much. With a story this involved, it needs a lengthy telling to be done justice.

The last of the series and the conclusion of the Green Mile contains the death of the "killer."

The only thing I did not like about the series was having to wait for the next one to come out.

I'm new to stephen king, and this is a first. It was truly something else, it was well thought out and written by an amazing mind. It was simple and easy to read story line. I have not read the rest of the parts form the book but i look forward to doing so.

The whole experience of reading each of these books was amazing. Have to read Mr. King's introduction to understand. It was a one of a kind experience to read these as they were released, knowing that with the first book, he had not yet written the last.
Russell
A fitting and almost powerful end to the story. The conclusion (to both John Coffey and our insight into Paul's struggles) are telegraphed to the reader, so there is little to surprise us, but it was a satisfying conclusion none the less.

The best way to read the Green Mile is to wait a month between books. Seriously.

It's even better if you can find a friend or two who will follow the same schedule.

Una novela por entregas buenísima!
Una historia muy original, tierna, misteriosa y a ratos dura.
No me extraña que la película (bastante fiel al libro) sea tan buena.
James
Finally finished the series. I love his writing and how he adds a bit of supernatural to his stories. Hopefully I get the chance to read all of his books.

I could go on reading more chapters of King's Green Mile series every month for life. So perfectly done, Bravo, King

This book makes me think. A lot of books make me think, but some more then others. I think it is the best out of the six.
