If 'The Bronze Horseman' stole my heart then 'The Bridge to Holy Cross' has stolen a few weeks of my reading life. Was it worth it? Well, it still deserves 3.5 stars but I do have a few bones to pick in my review. Consider yourself warned.

This book began brilliantly. I was absolutely enthralled from the opening chapter and Simons effortlessly kept up a pace and tension that rivalled 'The Bronze Horseman'. On my birthday, I was reading it on my work break and something major was happening. As my...more

WOW!!!! This second installment of The Bronze Horseman trilogy was BEAUTIFUL!!!!! This is truly the most EPIC LOVE story EVER told bar none. I am writing this review through the tears left over from reading this book.

This book was the PERFECT sequel to The Bronze Horseman. In many ways, it not so much followed it as it did complete it. While things are still very open for book 3, I felt like this book was the second half of TBH. It was utter...more

GAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!

My emotions are so raw from this book.. !!

After reading The Bronze Horseman I immediately had to download book 2, Tatiana and Alexander.. this book takes up where TBH leaves off.

It also led me to the beginning of Alexander's story and into his past.. how he came to Russia, and everything that happens to him and his family from the time they arrived and then everything that happens to him and Tatiana after TBH ends..

Following TBH, this book took what was...more

Another beautifully written, 5 star read! The second installment in TBH series did not disappoint. Granted, much of it was filled with struggle, heartache, and tension, but it did not lack the eternal love and persistent hope generated in the first book.

The character development was huge, especially in Tatiana's case. She showed a remarkable growth in maturity; so much that, at times, I missed the former, more carefree Tania. I found it difficult to see Tatiana in such a massive state of longing...more

War - it's bad thing. People who making their money at the bloody memories - sick people"

Oh Boy! I feel bad, The book has nothing to do with real history. What is written in this book - a mockery of the memory of people who attended this hell. The book you might like, but do not think that the way it really was. Paullina Simons was born in Russia but she doesn't care anything for Russia or its people. This was left out of the biog...more

The first half of this book had me worried since quite a bit of it was nothing more than flashbacks to the first book. But the flashbacks eventually faded away, and I was left to finish the rest of the tale, which was also a bit draining because I kept wondering when Alexander and Tatiana were finally going to see each other again. This book, like its predecessor, is a bit melodramatic, but Paullina Simons is a master manipulator; normally melodrama makes me roll my eyes or snicker, but this mel...more

What do you hope for?
What do you believe in?
But most important, what do you love?

Love truly is a powerful thing. Just when you are down, love is there to pull you up. Tatiana & Alexander seriously is the epitome of love. There is no stopping this couple as long as they have each other. This is another beautiful masterpiece by Paullina Simons.

WOW!!! Just WOW!!! I thought the emotions of The Bronze Horseman were hard to read through. Tatiana and Alexander is beyond anything I could have ever expected. Fear, loneliness, hope, desperation, panic, love, joy, terror, doubt and so much more.

Some chapters were about Tatiana and some were about Alexander. All of the chapters were about each of them adapting to a reality they never could have expected. Tatiana's strength and faith are what keeps her moving forward, but to what she is not sur...more

Tatiana and Alexander, by Paullina Simmons, is a great sequel to The Bronze Horseman. Absolutley perfect! I could not have asked for anything more as I sought to complete my journey with these two characters. The story is about two protagonists that share a love so strong that even fate and a world war can't keep them apart. The story continues to paint a vivid picture of a heroic and strong Red Army officer and a girl who refuses to let a war torn country keep them apart.

After inevitable event...more

I re-read this emotional roller-coaster book that made me sob like a baby...... again. I don't deny that I have a special place in my heart for Alexander, he is definitely one of a kind.

The first book of the trilogy, "The Bronze Horseman" tells mainly the story of Tatiana and her love for Alexander in wartime Russia. A story with a very dramatic ending and I loved every single page of it!

The second book is completely different and I love it even more than the first one. In the second book Tatian...more

I have to start off by saying that this is one of the most inconsistent books I've ever read. Tatiana & Alexander is divided into three sections: it starts off on shaky ground (Part 1), gets better (Part 2), and the best is saved for last (Part 3).

For Part 1, there is a complete re-hashing of TBH (The Bronze Horseman) up until about page 150, much of which basically reads like TBH from Alexander's perspective. It seemed as though Simons was at a loss as to what to write so she included snipp...more

Finishing this the second book in The Bronze Horseman Trilogy by Paulina Simons- is no small feat. A 500+ page tome- it's no light read. (By the way, here in the states, the second novel in the trilogy is titled Tatiana and Alexander- but most elsewhere in the world, it's Bridge to Holy Cross.) But finish I did and loved every minute of it!

If you've never read The Bronze Horseman and its sequels- it's a sweeping epic that harkens back to the days of the mini-series: think The Winds of War and Th...more

Tatiana and Alexander is one of the saddest books I have ever read. My heart ached through the whole book.
I have to say that because of this I loved it. Simons writing is so visceral that I had to take breaks from this book. I could not read it for an extended length of time.

For most of the book we find Tatiana in America trying to move on with her life but she can not forget Alexander and it consumes her. Alexander goes thru hell fighting in WWII doing everything he possibly can to somehow ge...more

Had some issues with this one but I'm giving it 4 stars because it was a good conclusion to Part 1, The Bronze Horseman. Will write a full review once I'm able to recover a little bit. These books destroyed me.

Though much is taken, much abides; and though we are not now that strength which in old days moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are---

Unyielding.

A sweeping tale that takes us back to how they met, what they saw and why they were so relentless in loving... then later in protecting the other. It goes from New York, to Berlin then to both their memories of Russia. Tatiana and Alexander’s love story is epic in scale with both of them doing some heroic things. Granted things could get a t...more

WARNING: THIS REVIEW WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR BOOK #1

Ok, that was hard. A necessary evil, I feel.

Goodness me.

Right, I'm going to admit, I did skim a little. There was quite a lot of political talk and history lessons in this book, much more so than in the first book. However, it was completely necessary, I understand that. But I did skim, and try to only take in what I absolutely needed to know.

Hey, what can I say? I needed to get Tatiana and Alexander back together ASAP.

OMG!! No words. I loved this installment and can't wait for The Summer Garden.

This book demonstrated the gritty, real, angst-ridden storytelling of Paullina Simons. It was mostly heartbreaking to read but it told such a terrific story. You learn so much more about Alexander and his life in this book. This book is the definition of faith all rolled up into one word: Orbeli.

This sequel continues with Tatiana a new mum and a new widow arriving in New York City trying to live, while hiding all that has perished inside herself. She has a new son, a piece of Alexander to help as she continues in the land of the living. She gets a job as a nurse and continues caring for those that need comfort.

An ocean away, Alexander is struggling to escape the brutal Soviet monster which is hounding him, while he is plagued with mirages from the past which both sustain and taunt him....more

TBH is my favorite book of all time, and I loved reading more about Tatiana and Alexander. You see these characters develop oceans apart. Tatiana (now living in the USA) begins to doubt what happened when she left Russia and wonders if Alexander is still alive afterall. She becomes obsessed with looking for clues to what really happened and knows she cannot move on until she uncovers the truth. Alexander struggles with inner demons and the emotional/physical torture in Russian prison camps and t...more

It was hard at first to get into this book after having finished TBH. I found myself always going back to TBH just to read parts that were so wonderfully moving or so painfully heartbreaking. After finally committing to the 2nd book, I found myself unable to put it down. Some reviews hated the "re-telling" of events from TBH, but I thought it very appropriate and it was done in such a way where it wasn't just a rehashing of the event. I found myself reading passages twice or even three times jus...more

The bronze horseman was perfect, absolutely perfect. This just felt too forced, and also like I was re-reading too much of the original story, unfortunately it dulled the magic of that first book. I will read book three, I can't end Tatiana and Alexander's story like this.

Now my 2nd favourite books, after The Bronze Horseman of course ;)
The second of the series involves flash backs to both Shura and Tatia's past. The flash backs may be annoying at times, but they are highly important to the story line. It allows you to understand each characters actions and feelings towards situations as well as their beliefs on life and love. The book presents both sides; the life of Tatia AND Shura when separated from each other, which is truely heart aching to read.

I did like this book very much and I realize that it is extra difficult to write a Book 2 to an extremely wonderful Book 1, but the entire first half of the book was a recap of the last book. I am not sure if her publisher wanted her to do that so it could be a stand alone book or what? Don't get me wrong, I loved the first book and enjoyed remembering, but I think that Simons is a great author and had wonderful subject matter and could have done amazing things but didn't quite fulfill it.

The second part of Paullina Simons'm trilogy, Tatiana and Alexander owns my heart even more than The Bronze Horseman.

The book follows Tatiana, as she struggles to make a new life in America while haunted by her memories of Alexander, and Alexander, grimly fighting his way across Europe with his penal batallion.

The book is swooningly romantic, even though our protagonists remain apart for most of it. In part this is due to flashbacks of their time together (the book has a looping, non-linear str...more

Quite possibly, one of the best books I've ever read.
I am thoroughly enjoying this trilogy, of which this book is the second. I cannot WAIT to read the final book.

Paullina Simons has an incredible talent for making you feel what the characters are feeling.
I anguished along with Tatiana and Alexander.
I felt their heart ache, their longing, their anger, their relief, their desperation, their hope...

Their romance is just so EPIC.
And heart stoppingly beautiful.
