Yes, I am a teacher. This means that even as I am hanging out at the beach under the umbrella, I am also reading professional texts to help me when I return. I have read loads and loads of texts about teaching adolescent readers. Some were incredibly helpful (Kylene Beers, Cris Tovani and Janet Allen – THANK YOU!), some inspired me (Kelly Gallagher and Nancie Atwell rock!) and some were merely repeats of what I already had read and used in my own classrooms.

Great book for a middle school teacher. This book helped me figure out how to structure individual reading conferences, quickly and easily document those conferences, and explain how specific questioning can draw out and help students. I have already shared some of this info with other teachers I work with. Normally, I would lend it to them to read, but I want it around to refer to when I need it!
Great outline and examples of possible pitfalls.
Every middle school teacher should read this one.
Enjoyable, practical book on engaging middle school readers. I'll definitely be sharing parts of this book w/my colleagues in the fall.
Great for any middle level reading teacher who is currently using a workshop model. Lots of ideas about engagment and individual conferring.
