I think that ark angel is my favorite book in the whole Alex Rider series. In Ark Angel Alex is recovering from his bullet wound from a sniper working for Scorpia. This 323 paged book titled, Ark Angel is a part of the Alex Rider series by Anthony Horowitz. It was published in 2007, and was written for young adults. In this book, Alex is investigating Nikolai Drevin who is a businessman that MI-6 has been suspicious about. This book is set in Great Britain and more specifically Flamingo Bay.
This book is set in modern times, and a lot of the things that happens depend upon modern technology. Because Nikolai Drevin is working with the British Government to build a hotel in space, a modern setting is the only setting that would work with this story. I think that this story could take place in a country other than Great Britain, but it would have to take place in a large, urban country. Since Alex is British and working for MI-6, it only makes sense that the story takes place where he lives.
The main character of this story is Alex Rider. This time he works with the CIA in America. Other characters include Nikolai and his son Paul Drevin. Nikolai is the bad guy in this story. Paul is not a major character but he meets Alex at the hospital and he is later saved by Alex. Joe Byrne is the head of the CIA and he tells Alex all about how Nikolai is a bad guy. Those are the main characters of the story.
The book starts out with Alex in the hospital after getting a gunshot wound that he received from a terrorist group in the last book. In the room right next to him is Paul Drevin, who was in the hospital as well. While Alex is in the hospital, some eco-terrorists come to try to kidnap Paul. Alex tricks the men to believe that he is Paul and he gets kidnapped. It does not take long for them to figure out that he was not Paul, and then they lock him up and set the building on fire. Alex escapes, and winds up back at the hospital. Nikolai Drevin wants Alex to come with him when he activates the hotel Ark Angel because of his help with saving Paul. They travel together and head to New York. While he is there, the CIA contacts him and tell him about Drevin’s being part of the Russian mafia. They later go to Flamingo Bay where they are going to watch the launch. Alex tries to find out more about what Drevin is doing, but Drevin’s men find out he is part of MI-6. Then they lock him away. Alex again escapes and the contacts the CIA who raid the island. Alex tells them that there is a bomb that is going up to knock the hotel out of orbit so that it lands on the Pentagon. In the end, Alex has to go up and diffuse the bomb and he saves the day. When he comes back to earth he lands in Australia which leads him to his adventure in the next book.
In this book I liked how Alex went into space, even though it is a little beyond our technology right now. I also liked how he continues to escape every time he is locked up. It is a little like James Bond, since he seems to always get away. I liked how Alex handled the zero gravity in space and how he diffused the bomb. I also liked the fact that they made a 14-year old go into space all alone to diffuse a bomb. This book is a little far-fetched, but that makes it a fun read.
On page 285, Alex says, “No way. Forget it. The answer is no!” This is where Alex tells the CIA men that he is not going into space, even though he eventually does. I think this quote is typical of Alex since he is always being made to do things that he does not want to do. On page 289 the CIA agent tells him, “There is no one else. That’s the point Alex. We’re adults. We’re all too big.” In this quote we find out the real reason that Alex has to go. No one else will fit in the launch capsule, since it was designed for a small ape. Once again Alex has to step up to save the world.
One theme in this book is that one person can make a difference. In this series of books Alex is constantly doing more than what would normally be expected of a 14-year old. He travels the world, and gets caught and escapes and does all kinds of things that normal kids his age do not do. I think that is why these books are so popular, since kids can read about adventures that they normally would not do.
I would recommend this book to Young Adults who like action adventure books that are like James Bond type stories, especially if you like a hero who is young. Not many books talk about 14-year olds who go into space. This series is another adventure in the life of Alex Rider.
I would give this book 4 stars.

This book was okay. I feel like we've seen the evil multibillionare before (hmm . . . Alex seems to have even mentioned a certain Damian Cray in considering Drevin's offer), although the space element was new.

Oh, and what was with Alex's language? I've already read the next book and I feel like Horowitz was trying to make Alex seem mature and cool or whatever. Hey, it just seemed cheesy and lame to me, but maybe I just got tired of reading the three words "single ugly swearword." Honestly. Mayb...more

I just finished Ark Angel by Anthony Horowitz, the 6th book in the Alex Rider series. While the book held my attention and was quite enjoyable, I found the book somewhat predictable. This Book is important to the world because it shows how creative and dangerous terrorism can be. It also shows how sneaky the secret services can be, even if sending a 14 year-old out missions. You never know MI6 or the CIA could be doing that without anyone knowing. It is important to events in my life because it shows me to be careful of everyone and not to trust unknown people because they could be a completely different, terrible person on the inside.
I would give this book 4 out of 5 stars because I like how it keeps you hanging on each page to see what Alex or his foes will do next. It also does a great job on keeping the book full of action and surprises. What I didn’t like about the book was it was very detailed on the not so action-filled parts. The Author’s writing affect the story by giving a lot of detail throughout the entire book which makes you paint a picture in your mind about what is happening in the book.

My response to the book was I thought it was very descriptive and made me make a movie in my mind about what was going on during the book. Especially on page 199, “…they flopped down onto the sand and watched as the sun began its descent. It was still very warm. The breeze, blowing gently across the beach, carried the scent of pine and eucalyptus.” I thought this was very descriptive and made a movie in my mind of the setting of this part of the book.

This is the sixth book in the Alex Rider series. I haven't read any of the others (I usually hate starting in the middle of a series). We happened to pick it up somewhere fairly cheaply and I thought I'd see what the fuss was about.

1- Ark Angel: Since 1979's Moonraker, sending spies up in space was almost a taboo. But in the sixth edition of the AR series, Horowitz has made it sensational to read and even more fantastic to imagine. Major thumbs up, the best!

So last week my granddaughter comes home from 5th grade and says "I got you a book from my school library". I explained that I had a lot to read but thanked her for thinking of me. Over the summer, I read the book Ark Angel by Anthony Horowitz. This book, in my opinion, is it is superb. Ark Angel is a great book. Its fills are heads with the most outragous things you could think of. When you read this book you think to yourself about how much stuff suddenly happen just in time. All the for the somewhat cheezyness, the book will keep you on the edge of your seat.

This book relates to not only me, but many peoples lives. This book practically defines the hero we all wish we could be. The looks, the hair, the muscles, its what we all want.

Another enjoyable Alex Rider adventure. I especially liked the beginning when Alex fights off the kidnappers in the hospital. I think it very unlikely that Alex would be up to all the stuff he does in this book just ten+ days after nearly being killed by a bullet to the chest, but then, he IS Alex Rider. P.s., I'd just like to mention that I had a feeling that the reason he survived the shooting would have something to do with the fact that he is a child rather than an adult, and I was right!

There were a couple of incidents again where I thought the editing could have been better (specifically, there are a lot of male characters in these books and in some sentences it was difficult to ascertain which "he" the author was referring to) but I didn't pick up on any choppy dialog like I did in the last book.

The one major complaint I have against this story is that I wanted there to be more connection to events in the previous book. It seems like Alex would ponder a little more on the truths he learned about his father in the last book, though I understand that such thoughts wouldn't do much to advance the action of this new story. The thing that most disappointed me, however, is that he didn't talk to Paul about how he could sympathize with him about discovering that his father was evil, since Alex had experienced the same in the previous book. I think such a conversation between them would have been very powerful, but it never happened. No mention whatsoever was made of that connection, not eve in Alex's thoughts.

A new female character was introduced in this story, Tamara. I like her so much better than Sabina. It didn't hurt that the physical description given of her sounded almost exactly like me. She is too old, of course, to be a romantic interest for Alex, but I did like reading about her and wouldn't mind if they share more adventures together in the future.

The climax of this story is fantastic. Once Alex defused atomic bombs in the third book, I wondered how he could top that feat. He still manages to impress in each book though. I hope Alex can continue to do so in the next few books.(less)

This is one of the best books spy enthusiasts will ever read. Im serious ive been a long term Alex Rider fan for awhile now and this book has espionage and betrayel at evry cover. You won't want to stop reading until the last page. The day you get it (if you get it which I highly reccomend you do) Youll see exactly what I Mean. Reccommended for Ages About 11-18 no Lower though theres a graphic death at the end of the book.

Another outstanding book by Anthony Horowitz. his creativity will never stop amazing me. If I were to pick out a few things in the book that really stood out to me it would be when Horowitz mentions that the CIA tried to do the kid spy thing before but were unsuccessful. This is because there is no one who would be better suited to be a spy then Alex. The training that he unconsciously went through and the fact that it is in his blood makes him more than qualified. All this in approximately 300 pages, with poor execution, and lots of rushing. Sounds a lot like Riordan all over again, doesn't it?
Sending a flippin' kid into outer space with a few injections and some brief instructions was a bit ridiculous...

In all honesty, I would have given this book 0 stars, if it hadn't been for its one good quality. It holds true in all books of the series. Alex hates his job. Yes, you can just dismiss it as resentment for those who use him, but I look at it like this. You always hear about heroes, who love their jobs. They're proud to do what they're doing, either out of patriotism, love, human nature, or whatever. Alex breaks this "rule". He not only does so all the time, but also caused a paradigm shift in (hopefully) the readers. You begin to appreciate just how hard being a hero is, and it's not really all it seems to be. Between near-death attempts, you begin to see that being a hero is a full-time job, with no vacations or lunch breaks. After nearly dying at the end of the last book, he tells himself that he won't do it again. But like Jerry in The Chocolate War, he does the opposite of what he tells himself to do. Alex is constantly at war with himself, because he hates what he does, but has no choice at all. All that thinking the book made me just do earned it two stars. (less)
