It has been a good and interesting subject to read about; I might be more in it in future. The book is one of the luckiest pick I have.

One of the conclusions I came with is that English is really flexible and it is a quite living language; I mean that a lot of new words can make it to the dictionary easily. isn't it true?

Another one I came with is that both Shakespeare and People of Army added a lot to the english dictionary.

Fun, exciting and interesting. After the first pages I had already learned something new. Susie Dent really knows her english language.

Perfect for a linguistic nerd like myself!

Now I'll just continue to wait for opportunities where I get to drop these little snippets of information into conversation and make people go whoa, I actually did not know that.

This is a highly entertaining and informative book about the English language. It's written from a British point of view, so it's especially enlightening (and occasionally frustrating!) for the American reader. The author researches everything thoroughly, then answers the question with quite a lot of cheek. I highly recommend this.

A fun and deceptively learned look at the origins of some of our best known phrases. Dent is the lady with the big dictionary on Count Down!

Liked it a lot.
