This is a mystery, with romance, the paranormal and family relationships all thrown in for good message. It's a page turned with twists and reveleations, adn about as believable as the Tooth Fairy. Nut hey, reading is about escapism a lot of the time :)

A young woman has a car accident in a snow storm. She leaves the car, which falls into a river, and when she is found she has lost her memory toatlly. The household that takes her in is rather dysfunctional - a distractted father, grieving for a w...more

I haven't been drawn to a book from the first page as much as l was with this one for a long time and the last time l was it was another booked by Melanie called Could it be Magic?

Right from the start l was gripped by this story and read it at any chance l possibly could. I had high expectations after reading her first book and this book didn't let me down, the mystery which her previous book which had kept me so gripped was just as good in this book.

I love Sophie Kinsella's Shopaholic books (h...more

Description:

A woman has an accident in snowy conditions and wakes up in a family's home, she doesn't remember who she is, where she's from, anything. She stumbles across the family who have taken her in, Vincent the man of the house who works a lot and keeps himself to himself, his daughter Jadie who has been mute for two years since her sister Amber's death and her mother's disappearance, but decides to talk to "Kate" and Tara the housekeeper who obviously has feelings for her employer and his...more

In all honesty, this is not a book I myself would have chosen to read. And I wish I could give it 3.5 stars, but don't want to do it a disservice by only giving it 3. This book was a page-turner. I read it on recommendation from my Nana, and I couldn't put it down. I'm a quick reader as it is, and Rose's prose is accessible. The chapters are short, and often end with a cliffhanger; this also impelled me to continue reading. I suspended my disbelief a lot with this book, and allowed certain thing...more

Utterly ludicrous. The plot was like that of a soft porn movie without (mostly) the sex: young woman with amnesia encounters a series of young, brooding, handsome men, all of whom possibly fancy her. The stupid historical subplot was also terribly written, but easy enough to skip entirely.

And why, why, why the 'mystery' of the wife's disappearance? Why keep us in 'suspense' until p.279 of 403 to tell us she's dead when IT ALREADY TELLS US ON THE BACK COVER?!

Reinforces everything that I hate abou...more

This novel is told by a narrator whose name we don't know for most of it, since she loses her memory at the end of the first chapter. She's caught in a snowstorm, and rescued by a farmer, but finds his housekeeper very suspicious. She's also rather spooked by his daughter, who apparently speaks to her deceased sister. Then she starts some informal hypnotherapy with the housekeeper's brother in the hope of finding her memory, only to find herself, apparently, living in a past life in Victorian ti...more

In general, I have to say there was a lot going on in this book. At times, there were just too many story lines. But I was hooked enough to stick it out to find out what happens and who the main character really is (she has amnesia . . . slight spoiler alert: it's not all that climactic when she remembers who she is). Glad I didn't have to pay for the book - yet another passed along from my aunt. She wants it back to pass on to more people. Have to say that I wouldn't necessarily pass it along m...more

Dívka v nesnázích, krásný svalovec, roztomilé dítě a všechno obmotané tajnostmi a záhadami.

I just can't decide between 3 stars and 4 stars. I really liked the book, but there were aspects of it that I either didn't feel were necessary or that they detracted from the story.

So, there's a lot going on in this story. Let me map it out for you by character.

Kate has a car accident in a snow blizzard, she has amnesia, she is taken in by a family, and she has memories of a life that can't possibly be hers, yet they seem vividly real.

Vincent is the home owner who takes Kate in. He's recentl...more

Melanie Rose’s novel, Finding Home, centers around a woman, “Kate”, who gets in a car accident during a New England blizzard. She is rescued and finds herself in the house of Vincent James unable to remember who she is or where she was going. Vincent’s daughter, Jadie, takes an instant liking to her and breaks her two year silence by talking to Kate. Jadie, who has cystic fibrosis, tells Kate that Amber, her dead sister, told her that Kate was coming. Jadie’s nanny, Tara, takes an instant dislik...more

Coming Home is very similar to Rose’s first novel Could It Be Magic? as the main character finds herself in an unusual and magical situation, but I enjoyed the plot. It sounded a lot like Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella, too, and while it is similar in a few ways, the added historical/regression element gives the book its own spin. In a bid to figure out who she is Kate (the name she gives herself as the book progresses) decides to have hypnotherapy to help her to remember but finds herself regr...more

A young woman wakes up buried in the snow and has no idea what she is doing there. She’s rescued by a local family, and they take her in, promising to look after her until her memory returns. But after several days, she still has no idea where she is, who she is or what she is doing. The family are looking after her well – daughter Jadie is a delight and has spoken for the first time in years, housekeeper Tara is pleasant but she can sense something is awry, and house owner Vincent is distant bu...more

I checked this book out from the library on a whim, seeing as it's the holidays now and I could do with more reading. After reading the first few chapters, I was hooked. The storyline was very intriguing and the characters fascinating; but somehow the idea of hypnosis in the book didn't really sit well with me. But other than that, it was a great read. :)

Ok woo this book was mmmmm.....interesting I mean there were ghost, past life and a snow storm. Oh!! Did I mention the people can I just say they are all a little crazy. I think the only sane ones was Betty & Bill and the said part they are an elderly couple Bill hands and body doesn't work and poor Betty has demintra. This book was a like to wordy and far fetched for my taste.

Coming Home

It was a captivating, heart warming story and it put things right that were wronged. There were some elements of fantasy about it, but that was really needed to make the story cohesive. I liked the happy ending in this one.

needed something light to read and this certainly was that. Story of amnesia, past lifes, reincarnation, mystery. Usually this would get me excited but I found that this book did not.
Felt that it was very slow and could have been told in about 100 pages less. Got quite bored with the hypnotherapy sessions and there was no real depth to any of the characters. There was so much potential with the plots in the story but maybe there were too many plots.

I am really at about a 2-3/4!!!The books was okay a little too many coincidences though and then once the reincarnation stuff started I was losing interest. I guess since I don't believe in it it was just difficult to enjoy it as part of the story.

This is an interesting and engrossing story, and the author does a great job of interweaving Kate and Kitty’s stories to a logical and satisfying conclusion. The atmosphere in a good part of the novel is melancholy and depressing. Kate and Kitty are likable as are Adam and his family, but I found it hard to either like or sympathize with Tara and Vincent and I immediately disliked Maria. Ghostly visitors were very interesting. Jadie, the little girl with cystic fibrosis is a bright spot througho...more

This started out really slow, and it was hard to like any of the characters, with the exception of the little girl, Jadie. Around page 65-70, I was thinking of just not finishing the book. But it finally got interesting, and was much better after that.

This was just a totally fun read about hypnosis and reincarnation. It's refreshing and light mystery kept me engaged, and ofcourse, the subject matter has always been a fascination to me. I recommend this to anyone who needs a great vacation read!

If you want to read a book with lots of twists then this ones for you. I couldn't put it down! I'm not sure that I believe in reincarnation, but it certainly opens your mind to the possibility!

A woman with amnesia . . . recovered memories of past lives . . . it all seemed a bit too much--but it ended satisfactorily and with an unusual theme that is important.

Loved the sense of community, coming "home", family, and the wee bit of mystery. Characters are created well and the words flow. Good book for beach reading or a rainy day!

I couldn't get too interested in this book, so I flipped through it and read what interested me. I guess I know how it ended and I was good with that. Wasn't interested to go back and re-read to see how it came about.

I think this was my favourite of the 3 books I read by Melanie Rose. All 3 have a good story and I would love to read more by this author.
Donna Irwin
Loved this my third Melanie Rose - probably my least favourite of the three, but still a great read!!
