Linda Hecht does a phenomenal job in translating these court records and giving a thorough impression of what life was like for early anabaptists. I just find it so shocking though, that the horrible martyrdom depicted here was allowed. That would not be stood for in today's society. I can't say I agree with everything modern culture is about but the religious tolerance has improved so much. When was the last time you were tortured, imprisoned, and burned at the stake for refusing to take the ...more
