Kitty's radio show is as popular as ever and she has a boyfriend who actually seems to understand her. Can she finally settle down to a normal life? Not if this is just the calm before the storm. When her mother falls ill, Kitty rushes back to Denver--and right back to the abusive pack of werewolves she escaped a year ago. To make matters worse, a war is brewing between th...more

This one sorts out some of the things that bugged me about the previous book, and it nicely resolves a major issue that's been hanging over Kitty's head for a while.
I have to give Vaughn credit for bringing realistic elements into the story that most of the urban fantasy I've seen so far tends to avoid. She also has a more balanced view of supernatural creatures than some--there are good and bad lycanthropes and bad and good vampires. However, I really don't give a hoot about vampire politics.

Another great trip with Kitty. I love reading about her running around in the Denver metro area. That's where I went thru high school and a year of college, so it's like coming home to visit Kitty there. And in her fourth book, Kitty is like an old friend. What's more, she listens to great music that I liked back in those days....

This one is full of action and has some great closure to earlier storylines. It still stands well on its own as a novel, but by this point in the series, one should be...more

"For those of you who have not met Kitty and the other characters before, this is a great time to drop in on them. You may need to read the previous three books to get caught up on all the nuances, but you will find yourself hooked and waiting for the next one as much as I am. This is a series that is tremendously addicting. I was lucky enough to read this one before its release and all I can say is, "I want more, Ms. Vaughn, I want more." A Howling 5 Enchantments."

This is the fourth installment of Vaughn's Kitty Norville series, and, thankfully, not a filler book. There's a lot going on in this one in terms of Kitty's development as a werewolf, her personal life, and the overall storyline. The catalyst for it all is her return to Denver, with boyfriend Ben in tow, which obviously sets off a variety of consequences. She must go toe to toe with not only Carl, her former jackass of an Alpha, but also Arturo, the city's Master vampire. Meanwhile she must come...more

Fourth in the Kitty Norville urban fantasy series about a radio talk show host-cum-werewolf based in Denver, Colorado.

My Take
Whoa...talk about full circle! After spending so much time avoiding Denver, circumstances bring 'em right on back.

I do like how Vaughn has Kitty skittish about the relationship between Ben and herself. Just events that have caused them to bond. Form their little pack of two. A mated pair against their will. Sorta. I suspect it's Kitty's conversation with Drs. Luce and Sch...more

Again a book I couldn't put down after I started reading. But afterwards, I was getting some second thoughts. There will be spoilers, so if you haven't read the book yet, don't read this review.

From book one I have accepted the Hollywood infectious werewolf concept, since this is on which the books are founded. I also accepted the vampire concepts, although the thing with crosses really doesn't make sense to me. But again, these are the foundations and the stories built on them are really good.

Fangs for the Fantasy
After a long time away, Kitty finds herself drawn back to Denver. First it was Rick, a vampire friend trying to drag her into vampire politics, but then it was something far more personal – her mother has cancer.

Refusing to abandon her family, Kitty is forced to return to Denver where she was previously banished – instantly setting her against her old alphas, Carl and Meg. And also dragging her, against her wishes, into deep vampire politics, not just to help Rick against Arturo, the master of D...more

Kitty and the Silver Bullet is the fourth instalment in the Kitty Norville series by Carrie Vaughn. If you like action and romance then this is the book for you.

Kitty is just your average DJ that wants to make something of herself and just happens to be a werewolf. The last part makes life rather difficult, especially when she wants to return home to tend to her sick mother. The Denver pack banished her when they killed her best friend T.J a year ago but some things are worth fighting for.

The Kitty series has yet to return to the excellence of the first two novels. I was disappointed in the third novel, and unfortunately I'm disappointed with this novel. Kitty is forced to return to her home town and the pack she left, which happens to be in the middle of a vampire war. I didn't feel for Kitty when some of the bad things happened to her in this novel, and I didn't understand some of the decisions she made. I don't particularly like Ben and I wasn't interested in many of the non a...more

Carrie Vaughn's series is possibly the biggest reason why I may never submit my book about werewolves: she does it better.

Now that Kitty and Ben are together, things seems to settle down. At least for the first few pages. Kitty always thought werewolves couldn't get pregnant, so how is it possible for her to have a miscarriage? Before she can steady herself from that blow, there's a call from her parents. Her mother has breast cancer. Kitty and Ben rush back to Denver...and right into the middle...more

This is the fourth book in the Kitty Norville series and it is officially my favorite. The third book was my favorite until I read this one. This book had so much more character development and suspense than the last one did; I really zoomed right through it and enjoyed it.

Kitty is contacted by Rick (second in command to the city of Denver's master vamp). Rick thinks Arturo is loosing control of the city's vamps, he wants Kitty to side with him in a war against Arturo. Kitty doesn't want anythin...more

The longer I stay out of school, the more I fall into my old vices. Case in point: Staying up until 4 in the morning for no good reason. Trashy vampire novels. Writing reviews of trashy vampire novels at 4 in the morning for no good reason. (Also, lounging. Video games. Fic. Sleeping in. Midnight snacks. Why am I such a dissolute teenager again.)

This was alright. I can understand why it's more highly rated by readers -- it's certainly got a lot more guano hitting the fan than books two and three...more

Okay--I think I missed the boat on the earlier two books (GOES TO WASHINGTON and TAKES A HOLIDAY). It occured to me while reading this book that in a way Kitty has been working out what would be in an adult human a childhood's worth of abuse since leaving Carl and Meg, the alphas of her pack in Denver. As a new werewolf, Kitty was vulnerable to seeing her alphas as god-like--they were the first she knew; she was very young in her new life, and they wielded power with arrogance and cruelty.

Now, i...more

Kitty and the Silver Bullet ties up several loose plot threads that are hanging from the previous books in the series. It also adds a few more. I didn't like this book, however, as much as I liked Kitty Takes a Holiday.

The good first, Kitty is still Kitty and is Kitty thoughout the book. She gains in power, but as always in this series so far, it is gaining in power over knowing yourself. I like that about this series. Power growth is internal, the person's self, as opposed to getting a new powe...more

I was more than ready to dive into Carrie Vaughn's next Kitty Norville book after finishing Kitty Takes a Holiday. The mood was right and I was not quite ready to say goodbye to the characters just yet, however temporary. I wasn't disappointed.

Kitty and her new mate have settled in Pueblo, Colorado, far enough away from Denver not to cause problems, but close enough to continue with her radio show at KNOB. Her talk show is one of a kind. She reaches out to supernatural beings and others who want...more

Ever since her friend TJ was killed, Kitty has stayed far away from the abusive pack alphas in her home city. But a family emergency pulls Kitty back to Denver, where she has to confront the pack she left behind. Since she's been gone, it's gotten even more dysfunctional, and meanwhile the vampire Master of the city is increasing his demands of the wolves. One of Kitty's old friends asks for her help in breaking the Master's hold, but Kitty wants to stay out of the power struggle. But when the c...more

Life has taken a positive turn for Kitty Norville, werewolf / radio talk show host. Her book "Underneath the Skin" is published and soon to be released, her radio show "The Midnight Hour" has good ratings, and she and Ben have settled in as their own little pack.

Kitty's life suddenly turns up side down when her Dad calls with news of a family emergency; her Mom may have breast cancer. She and Ben decide to head back to Denver. This brings even more complications to an already complicated situat...more

Here's what the book brought to the series ...

Yeahs ::

* Kitty goes back to Denver. That means a nasty confrontation with Carl and Meg is sure to happen. I've been waiting for this and it didn't disappoint.

* Rick is also back in Kitty's life. He's the only vampire I've liked in the series so far. He comes to Kitty for help.

* Ben and Kitty really start questioning whether or not this relationship is built out of comfort or do they really care for each other. This gets answered ... and I wasn't ex...more

Wow... Huh. Just... wow.
Holy cow. I just love to be pleasantly surprised!

This book is so far the best one in the entire series - that's right, I liked it even more than the first book, Kitty and the Midnight Hour. This is certainly a rare moment; you don't often get to see sequels being that good.

The story is undoubtedly the main strength of this installation. After the first 10% of the book, the story really really picks up, putting the poor, unsuspecting reader into a constant state of excite...more

Kitty did not pick the romantic path I thought she would. : ( I wanted something more challenging. After some thought I am glad the author didn't got that way. Kitty's life is enough of a challenge without adding that kind of needy complication. Ben, he is a doll, sweet, kind, considerate, not the normal kind of guy for a UF heroine. I saw the doldrums setting in for this series. I was wrong. The way they where thrown together has a new dimension to explore that I enjoyed 'watching' as they conn...more

What's interesting about this particular volume is that despite some subplots that can obviously be explored in later volumes, one could stop reading Kitty series at this point, if they wanted. Why, I don't know, but it's got good resolution, especially on a personal level. The end isn't as heartbreaking as the previous volume, which actually scares me, because I wonder what Vaughn's got up her sleeve for books five and six. I don't know if there's going to be a seven, but two more book is plent...more

Kitty's been away from home for awhile, but decides to return when she learns her mother might have cancer. But Kitty and the boyfriend are walking straight into trouble - both the vampires and werewolves are having some power issues. In her time away from the pack Kitty has come more into her own, and she doesn't want to interfere but she also doesn't want to get pushed around by any side.

Between her mother's and her own medical issues, this is a very emotional novel. It's also very satisfying,...more

Kitty has been asked by Rick to come back to Denver to help him take out the current Master of the City. She does not want to get in the middle of the chaos. Not to mention she has been exiled and would be killed by the packs alphas if she ever shows her face in Denver again. Then her father calls. She knows something is wrong. Her father never calls.

Her mother is going in for surgery. She found a lump on her breast. Now it is a matter of being there for her family. How can she show up in Denve...more

Well, this one was a good one. The ball seems to be rolling, although I can't imagine where it will go from here. Kitty's mom gets sick, sending Kitty back to exhiled Denver. Now she must make some hard choices about taking a stand, shaping her life, and just what battles she wants to face.

I was kinda confused with her Ben relationship in this one. It seemed the least defined since it began. The ending threw me. It wasn't expected, in fact, I don't know where the hell it came from. I've never "...more

Perfect for : Personal reading, anyone who likes vampire or werewolf stories

In a nutshell: In Kitty and the Silver Bullet (Book 4 of the series), Carrie Vaughn introduces politics of the supernatural kind into Kitty's life. Personal reasons compel Kitty and Ben to return to Denver, where Carl and Meg are still the alphas of the local pack, and will see their return as a challenge to their authority. Rick, the vampire who has always been seen at the edges of things with Arturo steps up to take ov...more

“All right. I'll bite. Here's what I think, with the caveat that I may be wrong. I think we're here to make the world a better place than we found it. I think we don't always deserve the cards we're dealt, good or bad. But we are judged by how we play the cards we're dealt. Those of us with a bum deal that makes it harder to do good -- we just have to work a little more is all. There's no destiny. There's just muddling through without doing to much damage.” 16 people liked it
