★★★★✩Well narrated by Gabra Zackman. Difficult to rate this book NR wrote way back in 1986. Twenty-five years ago! Parts of it definitely dipped down to 3 stars, but others were excellent. At certain times the pacing is off. Neat to see the romantic suspense writer she will become, but hard not to compare it to the best of to her current work. I love a good treasure hunt and a diving story, so I’m going with four stars.
Okay, so now I've read a Nora Roberts. I'm rather thankful that this was a library lend and not something I bought.

The book is dated, severely dated in fact. The hero is smoking without any comment by anyone around him, he simply goes ahead and not only visits the parents of the heroine without her knowledge, he even takes her ten-year-old daughter alone out to the zoo and buys her stuff. Today this comes over as rather skeevy, just as his comments about said dau
Risky Business is another one of Nora Roberts earlier books, circa 1986. And she combines mystery and romance very well. Her focus character, Liz Palmer, was easy to relate to. Single mom, jilted by rich boyfriend while pregnant, starts over in Cozumel.Works her way up from hotel maid to owning her own business. Fiercely independent and determined not to expose herself to the hurt of romantic involvement again. I liked her.
A murder mystery begins almost immediately, so this is a page turner for t
Another good NR oldie. Wonderful suspense with the drug-trafficking ring, great pacing, and wonderful hero. The heroine bugged me, though, which came as a huge surprise. And it’s because of her indecision, her insecurity, and her inability to face the truth about herself, that lowered the rating for this story. I could’ve done without all her “angst”.

Still, it was a pleasurable, quick, exciting, and intriguing read.
I've read so many Nora Roberts books over the years, I'm really out of compliments on her work. However, I'll give it a shot. *LOL*

This is a typical Nora Roberts book. A little different in my opinion than her usual stuff, but nevertheless excellent. You have a heroine who became pregnant in college and for reasons explained in the book, she leaves her home and even her country to start a new life with her daughter. She winds up creating a successful business and a comfortable life for her and h

Liz Palmer runs a dive business in the quiet tranquility of a Caribbean island. Tranquil, that is, until a routine trip over the reef reveals the body of her newest employee - diver Jerry Sharpe. But when his brother, Jonas, shows up asking questions, Liz can't see how she can help. She barely knew Jerry. Then someone breaks into Liz's apartment, intent on her murder. Liz realizes that she is already more involved in Jonas' quest to unravel Jerry's murky past than she wanted to be. And now Jonas

Risky Business is one of Nora Roberts' earlier works, which shows. It's a nice book with lots of suspense, but it lacks the superb quality of her later works. I find it difficult to refrain myself from comparing it to her current works, which would not be fair. The characters are likeable, the suspense is well-done and the mystery well thought out. I enjoyed reading it, but I don't think I will re-read this book as I often do her other works.

When Liz Palmer was a young student in college, she became pregnant. The father, a law student, suddenly did not love her anymore, and when his wealthy family threatens her, she flees the country to make a new life for herself in the Caribbean. Somehow they convinced her that her own family would not want her either. So now her daughter is 10, and is living with her parents as she goes to a good school in Boston. Liz lives for the holidays, when her daughter is home with her. For the rest of the ...more

These were some REALLY DUMB villains! Aside from that, it was a good read for what it was: an 80s romance. You know what to expect and you get it...although, the hero wasn't NEARLY as big a jerk as I've read from other books in the same time period.

Meh, another tale of an overly dominant man and the reluctant, independent woman he bullies and cajoles into a relationship. I suppose it's supposed to be romantic that he insinuates himself into her life and refuses to leave but this seems to go beyond "fancy running into you here, look at what we have in common" and lands straight in manipulation territory especially at the end.

Not one of her best.

While Jonas and Liz didn't thrill me, I did enjoy the murder mystery. I think it was handled well
Liz Palmer hat Amerika vor langer Zeit den Rücken gekehrt und sich mit ihrer zehnjährigen Tocher Faith ein Leben auf Cozumel aufgebaut. Liz ran away from Houston after getting pregnant in her freshman year of college. She went down to Cozumel where her family had vacationed for years. Ten years later, she owns a dive business. Faith, her daughter, spends the school year in Houston. A temporary employee of hers named Jerry is found murdered. His brother, Jonas, comes down to get the body. He is determined to find his brother's killer. He uses Liz, but falls for her. Will they find out who did this and why?

I liked this story.

Diingetin teman, harusnya nulis review di kolom review. Kalo menurut perasaanku sih, kemarin aku udah nulis dikolom review, ternyata malah di kolom status, heheh.. Jadi malu >,<'!
Setelah insiden si buku pake acara ngumpet entah

Gostei tanto, tanto, tanto!
She was a maddening combination of mystery and innocence. But Liz was the key to finding his brother's killer, so cynical Jonas Sharpe had to stick close...too close for comfort.

Liz lives in Mexico and runs a dive shop. She left Texas as a pregnant teenager and her daughter, Faith, lives with Liz's parents during the school year. When Jonas arrives she is shocked, because he is the identical twin of Jerry, who used to work for her and board with her. Jonas assumes Liz has something to do with Je

To a point, I can understand why this story is so offensively patriarchal; the book is from the late 80s - things were different then. However, a weak-willed heroine plus an over-bearing-to-the-point-of-ridiculousness hero with a completely unrealistic masculine pov, multiplied by an unbelievable (in a bad way) love story, equaled lots of skipped pages. I enjoyed the mystery/suspense portions so much more than the 'romance,' as the latter had me stopping multiple times to groan or roll my eyes. ...more
If you like romance stories with a hint of mystery and danger then this might be for you. The vacation setting was a nice treat as well. Plus, the narrator did a wonderful job at performing this novel. She gave distinct feel to the characters. As far as storyline, it had its good and not so good. The concept was interesting but the nine lives of Liz and the not so smart villains made the read a bit "unrisky". In other words, the mystery part wasn't so intriguing. However, the romance part was ni ...more
I had never read anything by this popular author so decided to give her a try. Too much fear used to create suspense. I was tense reading it. Also, the emotions of the characters were not believable.

I didn't enjoy this one as much as the Boonsboro trilogy, but I finished it nonetheless. When I need a mindless easy read to soften the edges of my day or of a hard world, Nora Roberts books do the trick.
I really like it a lot.
About Jonas, a lawyer and twin brother who know how to get what he want.
And about Elizabeth Palmer, a stubborn young single mother who run Black Coral Dive at Cozumel.

Recommends it for: Everyone
One of my favorite Nora Roberts stories. Originally told in the Omnibus Dangerous. It is a story I have read multiple times and one I treasure having in my library

I recommend this story.

Entertaining romp. Murder, drugs, and love in Mexico.

Lots of twists and turns. I loved the twin angle, the diving and love story in Couzimel. Great strong female heroine.

A nIce little romance with intrigue

I could picture the water and sunshine - took me away for a few hours.

Nora Roberts at her best.
A great story with wonderfully written characters. I guessed the killers right when they were introduced in the story, but overall it was a great read.
I love Mexico and this book features a lot of picturesque description of Cozumel and Acapulco. It took me a bit to get into it, and it is staying pretty true to the Nora Formula, but the characters are interesting and I like Liz and her dive shop. I learned something can scuba dive at night? Wow. Kind of scary! But I really loved loved loved the scuba diving scenes...I have only snorkeled off Isla Mujeres and thought it was awesome. The romance and angst was very captivating and I love ...more
