This collection of stories from the ongoing Grimm Fairy Tales series is a mixed bag. There are some thoughtfully deep Jungian moments, alternating with cheesy fan-service...such as the evil Cindy, who looks like a cheerleader from hell, but is just so cute after she's eviscerated someone...No, really, some of the stories play it like that, and after a while that becomes annoying. Still, that's the market that Zenescope is playing to with this series, which is really too bad.

Volume 8 features a collection of that's very different from the earlier volumes - rather than being renditions of fairy tales (there's two less well-known fairy tales, I think), it's mostly filled with issues that deal with the build-up for the Dark Horde, back stories, and the clash between the good guys and (multiple) bad guys. It does feature a big finale where a whole bunch of characters get killed off and then a twist that's sort of a game changer. Overall, it's not too bad, but I think ...more

I have to say that I really and truly enjoy Zenescope's series Grimm Fairy Tales and and all the various spinoffs (Neverland, Piper, etc). Unless something major happens I will continue to follow this series. My one and only gripe with it is the unnecessary and gratuitous sexuality and objectification of women within the pages. It truly has no place within the story. Now I am by no means a prude but they don't even try to give it purpose. They are no better than the creators over at the bigger ...more

The T & A are getting rather out of hand... this series started well, and the story is still interesting, but I am less than impressed by the art. Especially from an author who has been involved in mental health.

If the covers for the Cons are anything to go by, no wonder Cons are such a hotbed of misogyny and sexual harassment!

Pretty much this entire volume centers on the fight between Belinda and the one she serves, along with others that serve him, and Sela and the ones who fight on the side of good. It's a major, bloody battle which has an ending for the battle, but not for the war.

There's also one other unrelated story and a cover gallery.

Different cover, but these ones are very confusing. There's also an alternate cover for Vol 1--maybe because there are alternate individual issue covers? Hmm. Annoying.

For the First time in the eighth volume there were almost no Fairy Tales but the fight for the survival of all the realm.
