I love Shelly Laurenston's book :)

Her first series "Magnus Pack" get me hooked to her books, and I decided to read her "Pride" series after I finish Magnus Pack.Even the world setting in Pride and Magnus Pack series are the same, no need to read Magnus Pack first :)

The Mane Event have 2 stories, Christmas Pride and Shaw's Tail. Here the story :

Christmas Pride

The story is about Mason "Mace" Llewellyn, who just end his military career at NAVY. He met his childhood friend, Desiree "Dez" MacDermot,...more

Wow, I still can't believe how good this book was, not paranormal romance but more erotica, but still I really liked it because the paranormal aspect was incredibly well developed. This story had an amazing plot and a great enemy, which I never realized who it was until the end. We get to know some amazing characters with great personalities, so be ready because once you read the first book you WILL need to read the rest.

In this story we get to read about Desiree MacDermot and Mace...more

This book is the first of Shelly Laurenston's Pride series and contains two stories:

Christmas Pride ★★★

This is the story of Mace Llewellyn & Dez MacDermot, two best friends separated while teenagers & pulled together when Dez investigates a murder in the Llewellyn Pride. Dez has always been THE ONE for Mace...now he just needs to convince her of it.

I enjoyed Mace & Dez but they're not my favorite couple. It was a good intro to the Pride background since I read Laurenston's Pack serie...more

I'm just now rereading the Laurenston books and had forgotten how fantastic this series is. This book is two novellas in one book, and it's very good. I haven't stopped laughing--especially during the second story (Brendon & Ronnie). The first book in Pride Stories, I like this series better than her earlier Magnus Pack books--mainly because I like the female leads better. Laurenston does a great job depicting shapeshifter life and pack structures, as well as with character development. Her...more

3 good stars, not the I don’t know how to rate it 3 stars. Because it was a fun book. Funny, sexy fluff with lots and lots of fun sex and lovable characters. Books of this genre are in danger of trying too much. Consequently lose the genuineness that is so important in order to enjoy the book without it giving you heartburn. To me, Shelly Laurenston found the right amount and I was left feeling quite delighted.

Great book!! Loved the characters, the plots and the humor in both books.

I really look forward to the other books in the series :))))

Christmas Pride

NYPD cop Desiree “Dez” MacDermot knows she’s changed a lot since she palled around with her childhood buddy, Mace. But it’s fair to say that Mace has changed even more. It isn’t just those too sexy gold eyes, or the six-four, built-like-a-Navy Seal body. It’s something in the way he sniffs her neck and purrs, making her entire body tingle…

Mace Llewellyn is back in New York city, after 14 years in the navy, and he is ready to start his new life. With his best friend Smitty (who is...more

A two-story anthology with both stories taking place in the same world, The Mane Event is by far a new favorite for me.

The first story, Christmas Pride, features lion shifter Mace Llewellyn and human NYPD detective Desiree MacDermot or Dez for short. Best friends as kids, they haven’t seen each other in over twenty years. Some things have changed; Mace is no longer a fourteen-year old short, odd kid and Dez is now a NYPD detective.

Some things haven’t changed, though. Dez is still unaware of Mace...more

Christmas Pride: Mace Llewellyn wants Desiree ‘Dez’ MacDermot bad. He can’t get enough of her. She’s so, so, feisty! Mace has had a thing for Dez since he first met her and now that he’s no longer a Navy SEAL he wants everything she’s got! The only problem? She’s a dog person and he’s, well… a cat. A lion to be specific. Oh, and his sisters can’t stand Dez. And there’s a murdering shifter on the loose. And… well you get the idea. So how’s Mace supposed to win Dez over? Easy. By being his usual c...more

"Christmas Pride":

Mace Llewellyn, a lion shapshifter, has just come back to his Pride after being in the Navy. He plans to break things off with his Pride and go off on his own - male lion shifters in the Pride are expected to have sex with all the women and get as many of them pregnant as possible, but Mace is unusual in that he would like to settle down with one woman. Specifically, he'd like to settle down with Dez, an Irish-Puerto Rican woman he was friends with as a kid and who he hasn't se...more

I know I see other people's reviews all the time saying they expected to like a book based on its reviews, then were horribly disappointed. But honestly, that hardly ever happens to me. I can usually get a pretty good idea before I pick a book up. But this one? Wow. I wasn't just thinking "oh maybe I'll check it out and see". I thought I'd really enjoy it. So very wrong. The writing is pure formula - including the supposedly hot sex. Internal dialog of the main characters are absurdly simple-min...more

Mace comes back home from his years of service with the navy and has his heart set and getting together with his childhood crush Dez. Dez is now a divorced cop, married to her job and painfully single living with her 2 huge dogs. Mace comes on strong and wont back off but Dez knows it wont work since she is so dedicated to her work and because she has always been able to tell there is something different about him, which turns out to be he is a lion shifter. And an odd lion since he hangs out wi...more

I blame myself, you know. I started out with her other book, Beast Behaving Badly (Pride, #5) and I loved it. It was hilarious and sweet at times. Oh, and the hero was tough. I love it in a paranormal novel when the hero is a manly man. I have a shelf dedicated to them! The story focused on them and their relationship. There were one or two steamy scenes. The story was well developed.

I decided that this author was awesome and immediately set out to acquire all the books in what I was thinking what would become my favorite new...more

A playful escape with a lot of hot sex scenes, but don’t expect much in the way of plot, relationship development, and romance.

This book has two short stories which are similar. The guy is a lion shifter. He smells a woman and knows she is his mate for life. He is obsessed with being with her, touching her, and having sex. The woman doesn’t want a relationship, but she is unable to resist him sexually. The second story was a little better than the first.

I can honestly say that Shelly Laurenston has taken that whole animal/human hybrid thing to a new level. Lora Leigh at least portrays this mix as a human manipulated genetic testing thing, but Shelly Laurenston just puts it out there as fact. The different animal groups just are. They are descended from their pure animal ancestors. I wonder if this book is part of a larger series. I know that it is part of what I'm calling the Pride Chronicles but are their Pack Chronicles as well? What really c...more

This was actually two novellas put together, and the characters from one story were also in the other story. I thought it was great! Both stories were about shifters. There were the lions, wolves, and hyenas. The first story focused on Mace who was a lion shifter. He knew he had found his mate in Dez, the girl he knew when he was 14. After being in the military he returns home knowing he needed to find his mate to be happy. Of course, Dez is in the area and she's an NYPD cop investigating his si...more

I really liked it! Sexy and Funny, it will make you want to roar!

Mane Event is one of those guilty pleasure kind of books but somehow Shelly Laurenston manages the erotic content while telling two connected stories that are romantic and funny. This is no neat feat considering that the couples spend most of their time getting hot and sweaty and some people may be uncomfortable with the sensuality level and language here. But where a full length novel might have gotten repetitious, these short st...more
Lynsey (The Demon Librarian)
These Pride/Pack books by Shelly Laurenston are more like novellas than full length novels, and lack any real storyline, which I know sounds really bad, BUT, what they lack in storyline they make up for by having some of the funniest, most likable characters and great one-liners, and are really easy to read.

I've also read the three Magnus pack novels by this author and they are much the same style.

I think perhaps if you're in between books or maybe waiting for something else to come out and you...more

This was the first book in the pride series and I enjoyed it. This is really more of a 3.5 stars instead of a 3 star book. The two stories were connected and I liked following the multiple characters.

Christmas Pride:
The first story follows Mace Llewellyn (yes I hated his name) and Dez MacDermot who were real close friends growing up in New York but got seperated from Dez's move to Queens. Twenty years later, Mace is back in town for the holidays and he plans to seek out Dez. He do not have to wa...more

Four 1/2 stars...this book contains two separate stories that tie together.

Christmas Pride is about what happens when childhood best friends are reunited twenty years later. Mace is a lion-shifter that has been in love with Dez since they were kids, even when she left he never got over her. He is just out of the navy and his very first step is to find Dez.

He would find her. He would find her and he’d claim her. The potential reality that she may be married with six kids or living in Istanbul as...more

My Review:
There are actually 2 full books which are separate stories in this book. I have reviewed them below as separate books.

Christmas Pride: A+
This was the first Shelly Laurenston I have ever read, but it absolutely will not be my last. OMG, I loved this book!!! Shelly is an amazing writer. This book was so funny and witty without being obviously so. It's so naturally done. I really, really loved it.

Some books have plot and then some hot sex scenes. This book had lots of sex scenes, but very little plot. The Mane Event consist of two stories - the first one was so horrible that I almost didn't read the second one. The second story was better, as there were a bit more interaction (that didn't include sex) between the two main characters.

There is very little plot - guys decide that they are in love with girls and want to stay with them forever, girls are afraid of commitment. The "action" pl...more

Well, this was a delightful little, light-weight romp. Having just completed A Discovery of Witches I needed something easy, something uplifting, and something that didn't take over a week to wade through.

I certainly found it in The Mane Event.

I didn't, however, realise it was made up of two short stories - and not just one novel sized read. I'm not much into short stories, I like the length of a full-size novel, being able to get attached to the characters by the end of the book. Although these...more

The Mane Event basically has two stories with interrelated stories and characters. It is a fun paranormal read with interesting characters. I will not write a summary as many before me have done a adequate job.

The best part of the stories was the humour which lead to make laugh out aloud moments. The couples are cute keeping the book interesting. The story moved fine and the romance was good too.The paranormal aspect of this book was well developed and appropriately used to create the settings...more

How did I not realize that this author is FANTASTIC?! I'm on the PNR discussion group all the time - why doesn't anyone rave about Shelly Laurenston? If you love paranormal romance, this one should be moved to the top of your to-read pile. The writing is funny and sexy, the stories interesting, and the characters so well written, you will fall in love with them and want to be their friends. I can't believe how many times I laughed out loud reading this book - and yet the sex scenes were still sc...more

A proper full blown Paranormal Romance - and I have to confess my first shifter romance - had me at hello.

Mace wants only one thing after twenty years being a in the navy SEALS, he want his all but girlfriend from private school, Dez... and wants her for the rest of his life. The way he sees it his friend from when they were fourteen has to be available for life and if not must be made free for life, he's spent long enough nights fantasizin...more

The Mane Event actually contains two stories; Christmas Pride and Shaw's Tail that introduce to the New York Llewellyn lion pride and part of the Smith wolf pack that have broken off from their roots in Tennessee.

Christmas Pride tells the story of Mace Llewellyn who has just returned from a 14 year stint in the Navy to get away from his family, specifically his sisters but upon returning to his family's home, meets up with the woman of his dreams, the girl he fell in love with back in high schoo...more

In The Main Event we are introduced to the Lions, tigers and bears of New York and man are they funny. I imagine these are the types of adventures Stephanie and I would have had if she was attracted to a Were Lion and I was a werewolves. But alas we are merely vampires.

The dialogs are totally hilarious. I kept being the weirdo laughing out loud on the bus this week. The book includes two equally funny, equally sexy love stories. A dog lover falls for a lion and a wolf falls for a lion. It made...more

Okay. It’s official. I have a new obsession and her name is Shelly Laurenston.
I sort of stumbled across her ‘Magnus Pack’ trilogy, but since then I have turned into a rabid fan-girl. So of course I am trolling through her back and current book list, consuming anything written by her brilliant pen.

‘The Mane Event’ is the first book in her ongoing ‘Pride’ series. ‘The Mane Event’ is really two stories in one, connected via New York’s lion pride.

Mason ‘Mace’ Llywelyn has left the Navy and returned...more
