Chains of Ice includes all the typical Christina Dodd ingredients: heat, aggressive menz, and, unique to her Chosen Ones series, team members!

John Powell differs from smooth, dangerous Aaron Eagle ( Storm of Shadows ) and loud, brash Samuel Faa ( Chains of Fire ). He's exceptionally calm, sensitive and possessed of sound judgment. He's good leadership material. Following an accident with his team, he's also a little... dangerous. "Crazy," "wild," "violent," they say. Genny Valente's just agreed t...more

The Chosen Ones is really shaping up as a paranormal romance series. And this one is my favorite so far. It has the 'right stuff' to be a good read for me.

My Thoughts:

*I loved John. His powers. His wounded heart. His passion. His goodness. I loved the whole outcast/hermit/mountain man thing he had going on. He was rocking the dreds, overgrown beard, animal skins, and cowboy hat. I know it sounds goofy. But he totally was. And his abilities, the awesomeness!!! How he can control energy and use it...more

I've read the first 2 books in the Chosen Ones series, and I like the idea of the series, very cool new concept (there really is only so much an author can do with the good vs. evil theme).

So, that being said, I might have some small spoilers in here just for the sake of being able to get my feelings across, and for summary purposes (because the back of the book doesn't remotely come close to what happens in this book).

Genny has known about the legend of the Chosen Ones si...more

Chains of Ice is the third book in The Chosen Ones series. I liked the first one, and really liked the second one. But so far, this one is my favorite.

Now, Chains of Ice is, I believe, unique among all of the series I have read. In the first two books, we get two of the stories from the last Chosen group...seven men and women tasked with fighting The Others (the dark versions of themselves). But what we get here is not another one of their stories, but instead this time around the hero is one of...more

4 Stars

Better than the first book but not as good as the second. The characters are engaging and the plot interesting with some exciting action scenes and a development or two in the overall story arc. Nonetheless, there is something missing.

It may be the fact that John and Genny are new characters and the familiar group of Chosen Ones only make an appearance about 70% in. However, this ultimately serves to strengthen the romance as it allows the reader the opportunity of getting t...more

This was disappointing. First of all what threw me off was the description on the back of the book. The blurb on the back is very misleading, the back blurb teaser is not all what happens in the book (a pet peeve of mine) and in all honestly that and the COVER is what caught my interest and convinced me to read it. Eh...

I loved the character of John Powell. He's interesting very mysterious BUT.... the whole 'grizzly man' who stalks women and takes them to his cabin to give them...more

WOW! A good series just got great with the third installment in the Chosen series. John & Genny are great characters. The Chosen from the previous two books do not show up until about 300 pages into the book. John is actually a Chosen from the previous seven. He exiled himself into the Russia wilderness after a horrific event to his entire team. Genny has been gifted a graduation trip to the Russia wilderness to follow & study the Ural Lynx. Her father who betrayed the Gypsy Travel Agenc...more

The back of the book is a little misleading. There's not a lot of capturing going on here. I liked the story. It moved pretty fast and kept my interest. I do think that I should have read the other books in this series first. About 2/3rds of the way through the book all of the sudden we were reading about characters who I had no idea who were. If I had read the others in order, this might not have seemed so out of left field. Also if some scenes with them had been included earlier in the book sp...more

Samuel Faa and Isabelle Mason are both Chosen, he has the power to control minds and she has the gift of healing, but that’s where their similarities end. He hasn’t led an easy life, whereas she comes from a wealthy and privileged family. They learned during a short affair that a relationship between a Gypsy and a socialite doesn’t work, but they can’t deny the attraction between them. Only on a mission, they finally have to face not only their enemies, but also that their feelings can’t be igno...more

Chains of Ice (The Chosen Ones #3) by Cristina Dodd. 5 out of 5 stars. I have to say I loved this book. One of the random ones of ordered from my library not knowing that it was part of a series. This is the first book I've read by this authors and I gotta say I'm happy I found her. Yeah I know I started the series on the third book, bu the lovely words on the back had me glued to it.

I have really been loving this series by Christina Dodd – the way she writes has always worked really well for me. This is the third book in her series “The Chosen Ones”. I haven’t read the 2nd one yet, but I have read and reviewed the first book “Storm of Visions".

With this story, we continue our quest with the Chosen ones and their battle to fight the evil lurking all around. They continue to face evil in unexpected places – and especially in unexpected characters!

Genny is a girl who has spent...more

What's not to like about a Christina Dodd book? Complex tale of individuals who have been given special "gifts" in order to overcome the evil of the Others who are seeking the ruination of the human race. John Powell has gone into self-imposed exile out of grief and fear of the damage his gift has done, not only in a general way but to his wife and the Chosen who were his friends and co-workers. His life intersects with Genny Valente, a young woman who has been yanked around by her unscrupulous...more

"Chains of Ice" by Christina Dodd. Book 3 in the Chosen Ones series.

Really enjoyed this book. I was a little sceptical about the main character John, at first. Only because he was only mentioned once in the last book right at the end so their was no background on him what so ever. But as the story progesses, I really liked the main characters of John and Genny (Genesis).

John is a Chosen One. But he no longer uses his powers. He has exciled himself after a terrible mission gone horribly wrong. He...more

Favorite Quote: "What are you thinking now?
"I was thinking that before I met you I was dead inside."

Genny Valente gets a reprieve one summer from her overbearing father and heads to the outbacks of Russia to observe wild leopards in their natural habitat. But there is a price to pay for her freedom. She must convince John Powell to come back. Back to the Chosen Ones. But John is more dangerous then any best she has ever encountered. He will kidnap her, seduce her, and betray her. But when all h...more

I read the first 2 books in this series, and thought they were a waste of time. I don't know why I put the next 2 on my wish list, but I thought I would give the series another try. Nicely surprised! The series is really starting to pull together, the characters are becoming more developed (still annoying and silly at times) but they are learning their place in the grand scheme of things. I felt a little lost with the back story about Gary and John's team, like I had skipped a book, but eventual...more

This was a different take on the bad guys/good guys thing. I thought the travel agency with special powers that was really searching for treasures was interesting and worked well. I liked John and Genny. I didn't get emotionally involved in them, but there was a lot of action and mystical powers and other-worldly stuff that kept me engaged as it was written. Intriguing.

The story did get bogged down with too many characters at times. And the switch in POV from Genny and John to the scene with cha...more

It has only been the last couple years that I've gotten onto the paranormal track, so this is my first non-historical Christina Dodd novel. The overall premise isn't unique, but I do like Dodd's attention to details. The segments regarding the lynx were fantastic and very engaging. The dynamics between the hero and heroine were well done. There was some speedy organizational details info dump in the last quarter of the book that I suppose it less extraneous sounding if you've read other books in...more

Christina Dodd never disappoints. With this series "The Chosen" we are swept up into the battle between good (The Chosen) and evil (The Others). Each character has specific powers and each couple has romance which adds to the flavour of this series to give the reader action/adventure, romance and paranormal fun!!! This is the third book I have read in this series (not in order) and I was not disappointed. My only warning is that the love scenes are a bit graphic. Chains of Ice starts out in a co...more

I loved everything about this EXCEPT the action at the end.

A two year separation, and I guess I just wanted a more romantic reunion. But the storyline was great. I loved both main characters. And now I want more. On to the next!

I liked this one better than the first book in the series. Now bare in mind I haven't read the second book, I skipped around due to library availability. John and Genny were OK. Genny seemed a bit dense to me always letting her father have control over her but at the same time she had the normal view that there is no way the legends were true. I liked that someone didn't immediately believe and had to be convinced. John on the other hand I was quite confused about for awhile. We went from prolog...more

This series is getting better as it goes along. I really liked this book the best of the three books in her new Chosen Ones series. It is not the same as the previous Darkness Chosen set of four books, which were really good, too. In these books you have a group of seven genuinely good people who were abandoned as infants battling the forces of evil. They each have a special super-power, and work to save abandoned babies. And each book tells how one member of the team falls in love and shows the...more

At first I was a little confused with this book to figure out where it fit in after the first two because it had been so long since I read those two. Once I figured it out I was able to quit stressing about that and focus on the story. I was a little surprised that the 3rd book in this series ended up being about the unknown 7th member of the group...the one who they still needed to find. I was also a little surprised that there was no reference to the other 6 members of the chosen ones until wh...more

Who knew an overgrown, over-haired, reclusive mountain man could be sexy? Not me but I truly loved John. He's strong and sensitive while being powerful and mysterious. I loved this dichotomy about him. You just never knew which way the wind was going to blow which in itself was rather suspenseful. And poor Genny - duped by her not-so-loving father and put in an unwinnable situation. I liked seeing Genny's growth and maturity as the book progressed. It was enlightening to see how they were togeth...more

Dun.Dun.Dun! And the story thickens!

The first two-thirds of the book we didn't see any of the beloved characters from the first two books. This normally really bothers me, but for some reason, it didn't bother me so much here. The developing story between Genny and John was intriguing enough that I didn't keep asking myself where the other characters were. As John teaches Genny about the lynx and the forest--and himself--I fell in love with him right along with her.

Lots of twists a...more

i liked the diff setting and the strange view of Russia.
the ending was distinctly unsatisfying. not bad....just... the reunion as not very emotional. the lovers were just "oh hey, its you. right, yeah i do love you. so that's nice isn't it." eh.
