I came across this book in a musty old basement, and the cover, though one should never judge a book by it's cover, seemed to intrigue me with a title like "The Old Countess".
After reading it, I found that it wasn't exactly what I expected, and would only recommend it if a person is really into lover's scandals, and knows a bit of the French language. Some parts seem to slip away in this foreign tounge and leaves an English speaker, such as myself, in the dust.
