I liked this book, but I really liked the first book better. The second installment dragged on a little bit too long for my tastes. I started getting characters confuses and forgetting who they were and how they had helped Temujin in the past. Some characters would disappear for a long time and then suddenly reappear. There were a few really good battle scenes and descriptions though, so if you like reading about action sequences I think you might enjoy this book, although I think they were a li ...more
Just like the first book, I really enjoyed this second (and last) book of the Heaven's Favorite series, but didn't love it like I did the series by Conn Iggulden. This might be a little unfair to Shanley as I read Iggulden's books first and they really sparked my interest in Genghis Khan. As I noted before, I believe that Shanley is more historically accurate and his focus is a little different from Iggulden's, so this reading didn't feel so much like a different version (thus a waste of time, w ...more
