Rainy Days An Alternative Journey From Pride And Prejudice To Passion And Love
by
Lory Lilian (Goodreads Author)
In Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, Elizabeth Bennet's first impression and hasty judgment of Mr. Darcy, and that gentleman's pride and aloofness toward her loved ones took them on a long, difficult road to happiness. Two days before the Netherfield Ball, both Darcy and Elizabeth, taking advantage of the momentary lapse in rain, escape outdoors for a bit of fresh air (Darcy on horseback, Lizzy on foot). But because it is only a momentary lapse, they end up getting caught in a torrential downpour miles away from their respective dwellings. Fortunately, they are nearby an old fishing cottage and decide to seek shelter there together. Although they are protected from the rain and damp, this decision places both...more
Okay, so I'm a bit embarrassed for reading this Pride and Prejudice parallel story, but I needed something mindless after Sarah's Keys. Well, I have to say Ms. Lilian is a better writer than most of the P & P sequel writers; however, the plot is horrible and no research was done to provide the necessary details of everyday conversation. After the first 150 pages, I just couldn't stand another glance, another stolen caress or another confession of love. I mean you can only take the mush so fa...more
I loved that Darcy and Elizabeth get caught in this rain storm together and seek refuge in this small cottage, they are stuck together for hours. Darcy is just realizing the feelings he has for Elizabeth but quickly realizes she hates him and decides to make her think better of him during their time alone in the cottage. She already hates him, this is a proud disaggreable man who insulted her as not being handsome enough to tempt him and now she's stuck with him. How quickly in the course of a f...more

Oh, what a beautiful story! This story is an alternative to Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. It explores what would have happened if Mr Darcy became aware of Lizzie’s opinion of him while still at Netherfield and then set about changing his behaviour in an attempt to woo Elizabeth right from the beginning.

I waited and waited for this book to come to the Nook or Kindle. Finally on my weekly check to see it was availble for the Nook. After reading LL's Rememberence of the Past I just could not wait. I was not disappointed. I am not one to get wrapped up in if it is true Jane A's P&P. I just love the characters Jane A gave us. LL develops these "templates" (lack of a better word) in an Austen style BUT interesting enough for the modern reader. Bottom line this is a good FUN read whether it is a...more
I am a sucker for anything P & P and this a sweet adaptation of it. The plot diverges from the original story when Elizabeth & Darcy end up caught in a rainstorm a few days before the ball at Netherfield. Taking shelter in Mr. Bennet's "fishing cottage" they are alone together for a few hours and Elizabeth's opinion of Darcy, (and his feelings of her to a certain extent) change for the better. The courtship progresses from there. It's not perfect--some things drag on, some issues are res...more
Oh boy!!! Where shall I begin? I LOVED every page, every word of this book. It is really beautifully written, in a delicate manner faithful to the original style.
What a pleasure it was to discover the thoughts of both Darcy, Elizabeth and even other characters like Jane, Bingley or Lady Catherine!
The plot is really convincing, what a great idea it was to include this secluded cottage and the unfolding events linked to their fortunate meeting there.

Disclaimer - I believe the author may be European and that English is not her first language....I like the basic story quite a bit, but it needs a strong reedit and a reworking by the author. Lots of words and phrases that are very out of place for the period, and used frequently enough to be a big distraction to me. However, I think this was her first work, and it was less of a problem in "Remembrance of the Past", and all other signs point to the author only improving over time. Liked the stor...more
Rainy Days is one of my top favorite Pride and Prejudice variations! I don’t know how many times I’ve reread this! But with all the great JAFF books out there I haven’t lacked any new reading material. Needless to say, it’s been a while since I’ve reread this. So, recently, I took the time.

I wanted to love this book because it was a birthday present & a P&P spin-off but it didn't work for a few reasons, Jane Austen reasons. Jane would never have gotten as explicit. I also felt that from page one, Darcy & Elizabeth went out of character immediately. What makes the real Pride & Prejudice a classic is the wit & the class divide... as well as the friction between Darcy & Elizabeth. This became "Harlequin-type" rather than a romantic story. Nothing like the Darc...more
This is my first read of Lory's work, and it was pretty good. I love P&P "what if" stories, and this one was a lot of fun. I wish some of the plot had been developed a bit more, but the writing was good, and the characters were well developed. There is only one reason for my 3-star rating, and that's the treatment of Wickham and Darcy's relationship in the book. There is nothing believable about it, and that's the one thing that detracts from an otherwise pleasant read.
This started as a 4 for me, but the second half of the story (ie. the engagement period) was so long and drawn out I lost interest and had to come back to the book more than once to get through it.
The first half of the book was fun and sweet, and I enjoyed the time Darcy and Elizabeth spent caught in the rain. Of course at least one big misunderstanding was thrown in to cause a little heart break, but otherwise there were no major problems to overcome making for a sweet romance.
