Earlier this week the latest and last addition from the Nantucket series from author Denise Hunter was released from Thomas Nelson. Although this is not the first time that I have heard of Denise, this is the first opportunity I have had to read one of her novels and the first thing that I can say is that I'm sorry that I have waited so long. Through out the chapters of the story I was introduced to real characters placed in a very plausible but difficult situation in life. This novel took somet...more

Driftwood Lane by Denise Hunter
After having just read a few other books by Denise when I saw she had one of the Nantucket series available via my local library I ordered it.
Meridith Ward's father had remarried and had 2 boys and another girl that lived on Nantucket Island running a B&B. When she got the call that they had died and left her the inn and the kids she traveled to lend a hand til the uncle who the kids were close to had returned from his trip.
She, technically is the oldest of all...more

In Driftwood Lane by Denise Hunter, Meridith Ward must overcome the emotional hurt caused by her father’s desertion and the trauma of her mother’s bipolar disorder. She must choose between a safe, stable life and the passionate, unpredictability of romance.

When her estranged father and his wife die in an accident, Meridith obtains custody of her three younger siblings. She moves to Nantucket into the family’s rundown bed and breakfast to be with the children through the rest of their school year...more

Whenever Denise Hunter has a new book out, I’m interested. I’ve read several things she’s written, and have yet to be disappointed. Driftwood Lane was no exception. The story takes place in Nantucket, where careful and controlled Meredith travels in order to care for her newly orphaned siblings. Her father abandoned her years ago, and she has now become the guardian of his “other children”...as well as the heir to the poorly maintained bed and breakfast that they call home. Her first response is...more

When I first started this book, I thought "oh no, the classic woman left with kids after their parents die and falls in love with man" book. However, you quickly learn that is not the case with this story. Meridith is a level headed 25 year old and sometimes she came across as much older then that. I often forgot she was that young until it would be referenced. Meridith has never met her siblings, since her father left her and her mother years ago. In the beginning she wants to wait on the kids...more

Meridith Ward is stunned to find out her father and her stepmother have died in a tragic accident and named her as guardian to three children she’d never even met. Driftwood Lane is a wonderful story of love, growth and hope. The story centers on relationships developed as a result of the deaths of two family members. The title character, Meredith, struggles to find herself amidst the chaos she instantly inherits. I found myself cheering for Meredith as she learned to accept the plan God has for her. I also enjoyed Denise Hunter's writing style. She presented a beautifully written love story without explicit sexual references and vulgarity. Driftwood Lane...more

In the final book of her Nantucket series, Denise Hunter certainly does not disappoint. Once again set in the picturesque Nantucket, this is the story of family, love, and devotion. Meredith is happily engaged and living in St. Louis when she receives a call that will change her life forever...whether she wants it to or not. Her estranged father died and has left her custody of her three half siblings that she has never met. She packs a suitcase and heads to her father's somewhat run-down Bed an...more

I wasn't three chapters into this book before I found myself browsing for vacation rentals in Nantucket. There is just something about The Nantucket Love Story Series series by Denise Hunter that really makes me want to visit the island. Driftwood Lane is the final title in the series, but only the second I've read. And though I love this author, I refuse to read the last two books (or in this case, the first two) until my feet are buried ankle deep in Nantucket sand.

Driftwood Lane is a contempo...more

We all know how one phone call out of the blue can change our lives. Meridith Ward received that call one day while she was at work inspecting a resturant. The call telling her that her estranged father and step-mother were killed and she was the guardian of 3 siblings that she never laid eyes on and had a Bed & Breakfast to take care of!

This was an enjoyable, fast paced read. I love the charactor of Meridith and her willingness to drop everything and rush to Nantucket to take care of the ki...more

Driftwood Lane is another great book by Denise Hunter. She really knows how to tell a story. This book has rich character details, and her writing draws you into the setting of Nantucket. I liked how real the book felt. It didn’t seem unbelievable despite the unusual circumstances. Denise did a great job tying in Meredith’s past experiences and showing the effect they had later on in her life. Jake is a great hero for this story and I loved how connected he was to those kids! The ending was *per...more

I don’t usually read much Contemporary Christian fiction. But that might change now that I’ve come across Denise Hunter’s books. I read The Convenient Groom a few years ago – and I loved it. But because I write Christian Historical Fiction, that is usually what I end up trying to read. I should actually expound on this... as I have come to the realization that there are two very distinct kinds of Christian Historical Fiction. I like deeply emotional and complex characters in a plot that is both...more

Driftwood Lane is another fabulous romance by Denise Hunter. I loved how she made a compelling case for her heroine's fear and used the family pet to illustrate that in a Pavlovian way that made sense to the reader and to the hero. Not that she compared her to a dog, but the fear was the same. Different causes, but same overwhelming need to protect and preserve. Growing up with a mentally ill mother and a father who essentially abandoned her was a key part of the need she had to control everythi...more

Driftwood Lane was a sweet and heartbreaking romance that I'm happy I got the chance to review.
The story centers on a strong and independent young women who has just inherited her three half-siblings.

Now, I did enjoy the story and I felt as if I was right there in Nantucket enjoying the misty winds and spectacular views, but some of the main characters got on my nerves.
The Uncle and the oldest girl, were being unfair to the whole time and assuming the worst. I understood their feelings, but I...more

Does she know how to write a bad book? I don't think so.
Once again, Denise Hunter blows me away. I think what I love most about her stories is the emotional tug she creates. I have yet to read any of her books without laughing out loud and sobbing through the story. Sometime both at the same time. Instead of telling you what the book is about, I'm just going to say, "READ IT" and everything else you can get your hands on by Denise Hunter. I have them all!

I really liked this book series. The only thing that was disappointing was that they didn't connect to each other at all. They were living on the same island, so you would think that the characters from the different books would possibly run into each other and maybe you could see updates on their stories, but that never happened. Overall though, all four books were good.

For a reader who is used to there being a body count in the first chapter, this was a huge change for me. It was tough for me not to view the "golly gees" and the "whatever"s as bad writing. But really, it is just a sweet story, albeit predictable. You'll like the characters if not the writing style.

Readable, but frustrating. Why can't people just tell the truth? :) I wasn't sure how plausible the character growth was, therefore I thought a lot about the book. I suppose that's a good thing.

I enjoyed this Christian Romance and it made for an easy summer read. The Christian nature of the book prevented it from turning into a steamy too hot to handle typical romance novel. It was refreshing to read such a clean book with an unlikely love story. Though it wasn’t a can’t-put-it-down page turner, it was compelling and had a decent pace. The only thing I didn’t like about this novel was the jarring entrance of religion. I certainly don’t have a problem with the religious aspect, but the...more

This is a very good book with Christian themes, but not nauseatingly present and shoved in your face the whole time, that also makes it a very clean romance novel.

Warning: All emotional states encountered by the readers (eg:sad, angry, happy etc etc) will not be taken responsible by the novel.

The book was all right, somewhat predictable. I wish we could have gone more in depth into the characters. I felt like it was mostly surface stuff. I suppose I'm spoiled by Robin Jones Gunn and Karen Kingsbury!

I liked the other Nantucket book I read previous to this one better. It's still a nice read.

“One day at a time. Maybe it wasn't such bad advice. Despite what she'd learned in childhood, change could be good, right? If she could just let loose and let it happen. The thought sent a tremor of fear through her. She'd learned early to hold on tightly, to control her surroundings, her feelings. But control didn't buy safety. She couldn't even control her feelings, much less anything else. Control was a false foundation that crumbled and left her vulnerable. She didn't need to control. She needed to let go and trust God, and that was hard. But he was her new foundation. She pictured it beneath her, solid and unwavering. It would be okay.” 3 people liked it
