Ellen Christelow, Five Little Monkeys Play Hide and Seek (Clarion, 2004)
Five little monkeys, a babysitter, and rhyme. Mama's gone out dancing, and babysitter Lulu is enticed to play hide-and-seek with the FLM long after bedtime as Christelow imparts basic counting to her readers. Cute as always, and a Christelow original, which are always stronger than the adapted entries in the series. ***

The book has many opportunities for storytime reader participation and lots of repetitions. The little monkeys are silly, and I think that kids can identify with not wanting to go to bed, and playing a game “one more time.” It is a great twist to the story that the monkeys outwit the babysitter, and are also behaving themselves at the same time. I like reading this book to kids because they all love the "Five Little Monkeys." It is very easy to turn these books into songs to have children play along. Most of the kids remember the words once you make it a song. This is a book you can use to have fun with you kids.

Five little monkeys are being babysat while their mom goes out. They decide to play hide and seek but each time the babysitter finds them they convince her to play again but count to a bigger number. The students could count along with the babysitter.

I love Eileen Christelow. She writes engaging stories with great concepts. This one teaches counting (to 104!) in a funny story about the monkeys playing hide and seek with their babysitter. My girls have had so much fun counting along.

This traditional story of five little monkeys is changed up when they play a game of hide and seek. It is great for the classroom because there is hidden objects, you can count along, and you can ask many open ended questions.

The classic five little monkeys play hide and seek with their babysitter. Good for counting, finding hidden objects, and asking other questions.

for the predictable category. Very entertaining book for young children; they will catch onto it quickly and enjoy helping to "read" it.

The naughty little monkeys return in this title where they tease the babysitter during their game of hide and seek. Fun!
