This is the first book in a kick-butt sci-fi/mystery series. I picked it up years ago as an advanced readers copy and nearly went nuts when I found out that the next book wasn't coming out for another six months. Good, good stuff!!!

I have to admit that the concept of this book totally grabbed me. After reading the blurb, I knew I wanted to read this book. And I loved it!

In this alternate universe, the Violets are people who can channel the dead. They are born with the skill and all have violet eyes. They also have some fascinating jobs within society and are actively expected to help out whenever the authorities need them. They are also closely monitored and controlled by the NAACC, and often testify in court b More...

This isn't exactly a review. I hate to tell the story of any novel. Rather, I prefer to try and entice the readers to pick up certain books. If you like the psychic talents that many people believe are used by the more fortunate ones of the human race, then you'll like Stephen Woodworth's series on Violet Eyes.

I really liked Through Violet Eyes mainly because the criminals could not escape their victims as easily as we thought. The idea of a person being able to talk with the dead is More...

This fascinating story about a woman named Natalie( a violet) and a detective named Dan will stun you and wow you until the very last page. Natalie has the unique gift of being able to talk to dead murder victims, this however can be a bit of a problem beacuse there is somone who is trying to kill everyone with this special ability. She and Dan must work together to put the pieces of a murder together while keeping her safe, which proves to be a very troublesome task. Throught the book I found m More...

One of my favorite authors and books. The writing style of Through Violet Eyes is one that is easy to understand, from adults to young adults. Taking simple and complex diction and putting it together, along with strong, but simplistic details. In this story the characters interact with each other to fight crimes by someone who is trying to kill the violets. In this quest ---- finds more out about herself then she wanted to know. This book shows the characteristics of how to imagine something ne More...

Dan Atwater is the FBI agent assigned to protect Natalie Lindstrom, a Violet in touch with the murder victims who were her friends. Atwater needs to keep Natalie safe and alive, for her sake and to help solve the murders before more Violets are killed. The two opposite personalities learn to work together. Both need to overcome their pasts and learn to get along.
I can't imagine what it must be like for Natalie, bombarded at all times with dead souls 'knocking' to get her attention so that More...

They can talk to the dead and the dead can take over their bodies. Violets are in high demand with law enforcement since they can speak directly to the victim through them and solve crimes. So what do you do, when the violets are being stalked and killed? Who will protect them? AN FBI agent is called in to protect Natalie from what he doesn't know. She is able to talk to her friends and learn the what but not the who behind the murders. As they grow closer, she learns a deadly secret from him More...

Fast-paced alternate-reality thriller. There are people with violet eyes who can channel the dead. The "violets" can be used for anything from channeling long-dead composers and artists (presumably to continue their work) to bringing back the murdered to point out their killers. Natalie, one of our main protagonists is one of the latter. Except now it is the "violets" who are being targeted and she has to figure out who wants them dead. It was an enjoyable read. was a decent read...liked the idea behind the story - of certain kinds of humans, the "violets", being able to assist the police in murder enquiries by contacting the dead victims. Was paced fast enough to keep me from getting bored as the storyline was the same as most crime novels and it did include some good twists especially the ending; didnt see that one coming to be honest.
One negative thing about this book was the terrible editing, not sure whether it had been proof read More...

Nice twist on a ghost story.
Nathalie "BOO" Lindstrom is a Violet. A "conduit" for the dead. A government "employee" who helps put criminals where they belong.

Only what is going to happen when someone starts picking off Violets one by one? Who is this mysterious killer? Will Boo and her FBI shadow Dan Atwater be able to stop him before its too late?

Realy liked the twist in the plot in this book.

I debated about how to classify this book because it doesn't fit the fantasy genre (no magic exactly, current day setting), nor the science fiction genre (only sort of science, current day - not future), so I settled on urban fantasy by default because it does fit the current day setting, but I think it might be better to think of it as an alternate reality mystery/thriller. (I probably need to just add a speculative fiction category and be done with it.)

Violets, those who have the ability to channel the dead, are being murdered. When FBI Agent Dan Atwater is assigned to the protection detail of Natalie Lindstrom, a violet who happens to be afraid of anything worth living for, he knows he has his work cut out for him. Many characters are met, both living and dead, that help Dan and Natalie negotiate the waters of deception. But ultimately it is the dead that lead Dan to crack the case, even as he himself becomes a target. You learn that love More...

This is the first book in a series about people born with violet eyes who let dead people talk through them and about a woman helps the FBI try to find the killer before he kills her.
This book grabbed me from the first chapter. It is a fast read but don't let that fool you. It keeps you guessing most of the way through without being overly confusing. Another plus is unlike other serial killer stories the author doesn't get overly gory in the telling of the murder descriptions/scenes.

A crime mystery/thriller with a twist. I liked seeing how law enforcement changed when the prosecution can bring the dead back as witnesses. I would have liked to have learned more about the mythos of the Violets; their history, their treatment in other countries, and the other divisions besides law enforcement. Oh well, perhaps in the sequel. This is a very solid start to the series. It delievers what it promises. Be warned, though, it is pretty graphic concerning violence.

Natalie Lindstrom is a licensed member of the North American Afterlife Communications Corps. She is one of the blessed or cursed Americans born with violet eyes that can allow people who have passed into the afterworld to come back through her and speak. Someone is killing the Violets. First book by this author that I have read and a quite unusual type of thriller. Fast read and a page-turner with an eerie twist.

Back Cover Blurb:
The police call them The Violets....They have a special gift that is crime-fighting's secret weapon....
Through their violet eyes, they can actually expose the face of a murderer.
But now one killer is closing their violet eyes - permanently - and even the FBI can't stop him.

I must admit, that I picked this book up as the cover grabbed my attention. The violet eyes jumped off the shelf at me. Once I started reading I was hooked. It was a unique concept, being able to use people to talk to the dead so no murder would go unsolved or murderer unpunished. There is mystery, love and heartbreak. The book has it all. I was sad, kind upset at the ending but I know the rest of the series will be great.

I read this book after a friend suggested it. It definitely wasn't my usual cup of tea. There were some vaguely interesting parts, but overall I found the whole novel boring. There was nothing special about it. The underlining romance wasn't very believable, and I found the characters to be deeply underdeveloped. The "twist" ending was very unexciting. I'd recommend this only if it gets made into a movie.

This is one of my all time favorite books that I have ever read, it’s very fast paced and the characters are very well done and seem to come alive as you go, you will find yourself feeling for the characters as the book goes on. It has a little bit of everything. Paranormal/Sci-Fi/fantasy: Now it isn't totally paranormal all the time, but it still has some of the paranormal in it, with bringing in the psychic. Mystery: Your trying to figure out who the killer is. Romance: There is love between t

Violets are people with violet eyes who are conduits for the dead meaning a murder victim can testify at their killer s trial. In this very intriguing thriller, someone wants Violets dead and FBI agent Dan Atwater must team up with Violet Natalie Lindstrom to catch the killer. One of the better thrillers I ve read.

a well-written and fast-moving paranormal thriller, reminiscent of one of my favorite (mostly unknown) SF classics, philip jose farmer's Traitor to the Living. interesting concepts stacked like bricks and then thrown really hard at the main character.

The first half of the book is a tight, well-written thriller. There is a sense of mystery and dread and I was really hooked.

The second half is disappointing. It is rushed and the ending is abrupt. It is such a shame, especially considering the excellent first half.

Perhaps Woodworth could have spent more time or pages to flesh out the second half.

Pretty neat idea. In many ways, this book is structured like your standard catch-the-killer story, but with the twist of having the Violets, who can channel the spirits of the dead. For me, I would have liked to have more POV chapters from the Violet character, but that's just me. I'm a sucker for the, "oh, that's neat" part.

The world seemed to be structured such that having the phenomenon of the Violets was well thought-out and resonant in the culture.

This is my first book by Stephen Woodworth. I was very impressed by this story, it was unlike anything else that I have read recently. This is definetly a recommendable book. It held quite a realistic view of societies view of the unknown. Dan's hestiatance with Natalie due to his fear of her ability was one that anyone could relate. I was pleased that he found a way to over come his stereotypes to really care for Natalie. It also interested me the effects of their ability was enough to make som More...
