In the House is a hybrid of The Real World and Big Brother, and when Ally finds herself as a late addition to the cast, she’s pretty naïve about how it will impact her life. I was a little bothered by this, as she seemed to be a pretty smart girl who would probably realize that being on a nationally broadcast show would mean life wouldn’t be “normal” for her. But, then again, I think I was pretty smart at eighteen and I was naïve about a lot of stuff, so I’m willing to accept this about Ally.

A cutesy fun read with a lot of cursing in it. The F word is definitely a part of Allie Cavanaugh's vocabulary, and she isn't shy to use it. Starting off her freshman year in college should be enough trouble for Allie, as well as continuing a long distance relationship with her boyfriend Corey, but she has also signed on to star in a reality show about college freshmen, her every move will be recorded by cameras.
Allie herself is kind of annoying and whiny. She curses like a sailor on More...

"Reality Chick" is about a girl named Ally who makes it onto the TV show "In The House," a reality TV show about college. I'm not a big fan of these kinds of books, but for some reason I always feel the urge to read them. This was one of the few 'reality-TV-show' themed books that I actually finished.
The book was told in two different kinds of chapter formats: "Then" and "Now." This allows the author to show Ally's feelings while the show was fil More...

This wasn't one of my favorites, but it is timely and popular with high school girls. Ally Cavanaugh starts her freshman year in college in Syracuse on a reality tv show, "In the House." She has four roommates all very different, who share an off-campus apartment. James is like Justin Timberlake playing Eminem; Simone is softspoken and innocent; Jasmine is Asian, exotic, and works at Hooters; Drew is good-looking and nice. Ally befriends Kelly in her photography class - no mean feat si

In my opinion Watch Me was a great book. Not only very entertaining, but it also teaches a good life lesson.
Watch Me was a narration with Ally, the main character, as the narrator. I believe that having a narrator inside the story made it much easier to try to relate to everyone rather than having a narrator who is outside. Having a narrator outside of the book makes you limited to the thoughts and feelings of the characters making it harder to relate.

I quite enjoyed this book! I didn't think it would be that good when I first started, but it turned out to be really enjoyable! I was drawn to it because Aly is a freshman in college, and that's what I will be in September! The relationship between Aly and her long term boyfriend Corey was what I liked the most about it. And the fact that they both just moved on without it becoming a huge fight. I just hope that that type of thing doesn't happen to me! Haha. I reccomend this book to anyone who's

The “normal” college freshman Ally Cavanaugh auditions for a spot on the reality show that’s being filmed on her college campus. Miraculously she’s chosen and gets to live in a grand, luxurious house with her four housemates: the slutty Jasmine, shy Simone, ghetto-pimp James, and Abercrombie-hot Drew.
Everyone on the reality show seems to have a role, even her. Ally is, according to Drew, whom she thinks is full of himself, the “hot girl with the long-distance boyfriend.” Indeed, she an More...

Watch Me is the type of book that satiates my literary guilty pleasure craving. This is not one of those books that makes you think or changes your life in some way. It simply is entertainment. Whenever I find myself getting too stressed out or overwhelmed I gravitate towards books like this one.

Lauren Barnholdt is one of my go-to authors when I am in the mood for a contemporary, feel-good book with nice romance in it. Watch Me is actually a reissue of Reality Chick (same book, but different title and cover), which was published in 2006.
I really enjoyed this book, particularly because it has a college setting and I would love to see more YA books take place during college instead of high school. This story is about Ally's first semester at Syracuse College, which is broadcast More...

Books by author Lauren Barnholdt are always hit and miss for me. I love some of her books, but others tend to fall flat for me. In the case of Watch Me, this is not one of my favorites. While I liked the idea of the whole reality TV show, the execution of it in this book was not well thought out.
Ally decides on a spur of the moment to try out for a TV reality show. When she is accepted as one of the college roommates for the show, she has no idea how it is going to change More...

After reading Two-Way Street, another book by Lauren Barnholdt, I immediately wanted to read more from her. When looking through her books on Amazon, Watch Me was the one that stood out to me the most, due to the nature of the plot.
Ally, the main character, decides to try out for a reality tv show before heading off to college. The show itself is a mix between Big Brother and something like Jersey Shore. There is no prize money and no one is locked in the house but they do all live tog More...

Goodreads Summary:
All-hour study fests . . . all-night parties . . .
Going away to college means total independence and freedom. Unless of course your freshman year is taped and televised for all the world to watch. On uncensored cable.

I liked this book a lot. It was simple and cute, yet really entertaining! I think the format (going back and forth between "Now" and "Then") was sort of unnessecary and kind of took away from the over all effectiveness of the story. However, "Reality Chick" does manage to acurately portray what the typical college freshman experiences during their first semester at school, despite the fact that the main character was on a reality sohw, making the transition that muc

I'll be honest, after the other teen books I'd elected to read (RE: Life in the Fat Lane and Go Figure), Watch Me was actually pretty good. The characters were likeable, the plot moved smoothly, and I actually enjoyed reading it.
I'm not going to spoil anything in case you want to read this book, but I suggest reading it if you enjoy romantic teen stories. Or cheesy chick lit.

This book is very intresting at the beginning, you think your going to have amazing parties to read about sex, lust anything but honestly I saw that girl selling her out in a heartbeat. This book had a good "Possible" story line but did not live up to what I thought it could have been.

I really liked Ally. She was very relatable, the problems she was going through were so understandable and common for a college freshman (except for the cameras, of course). I loved all the characters and especially her love interest Drew. I loved the ending. Sweet and romantic.

This book was just okay. Its a light read that follows a freshman girl on a "Real World"-esque tv series. While the part of the plot that's based on long-distance-relationship-woes is quite accurate, the reader doesn't get to see enough to truly relate. I think it would have been more satisfying if the book was longer and if the author had been able to add more anecdotal stories about the main character's interactions with each one of her roommates. I also found a lot of the specifics

Watch me was an interesting book. It changed a lot in it though. Ally would be talking about one thing and then she is going out or something. Lauren wrote a very good book. I couldn't put the book down. I had to keep reading to see what would happen between Corey and ally...the book was good not wonderful.....the whole thing about your life being broadcast to the whole world is kinda weird......they know everything about you and your every move you make in a day....

This was the first Lauren Barnholdt book I read. I really liked it. It took me about two days. It is a very quick read and it is one of those books that you can read over and over again. :D

I thought this wasn't a very good book. I didn't appreciate the language but, the story line is pretty ok. I do like how this writer writes her books but, i don't really like this book.

I couldn't put this book down. It's fun, fresh and witty! I had a perma-smile the whole time.
I'm a huge fan of Barnholdt's style. Her protagonists aren't whinny or needy. They're real and easily relate-able.
This book is about surviving freshman year (college), building new relationships, and sustaining old relationships, while under the constant watch of cameras.
My only negative ... I wish there was more Ally and Drew time.
Would I recommend? Yes.

The favourite thing about this book is the use of languaage.
I really liked how there's a teenage edge towards it and casual chatty style too :)

I thought it would be more full of scandals, to be honest!
Good book for 10-11 year olds. I didn't enjoy that much.

I think the main thing I like about Lauren Barnholdt's books is her characters' tone and voice. They seem so real and fresh and like the kind of people you'd want to just keep talking to you. This one is no exception. There are no huge plot explosions or twists, nothing crazy happens, although there is plenty of emotional uproar and drama. The side characters are fun and fleshed out (Grant, especially), and it's fun to root for Ally as she makes her good and foolish choices. A great way to
