This is a book written in an encyclopedia format and takes the reader on a journey throughout the ancient world. From Europe to Africa, Asia, Oceania and Americas, the book explains the fascinating world of mythic deities and heroes.
The authors of this clever publication combined the text with complex pop-up art, consequently adding a third dimension to the story. Matthew Reinhart and Robert Sabuda’s text is rather short, precise and presented in a definition-like manner, but the pop-up panels...more

Ever since a child lit class I took in 1990, I have been the greatest lover of children's literature. Even though I had/have only one child, I own hundreds of children's books, and lament that I can't buy every one of quality that I come across. This one's one of the most beautiful and clever of pop-up books I have run across. I suggest this for any age person, particularly though, old enough to appreciate the book and treat it well (book suggest age 5 and up). Also a great book for kids studyin...more
You know those magical pop-up books you see in movies sometimes? The ones that are so elaborate and complex that they couldn’t possibly exist in real life? Yeah, well, so much for that. Matthew Reinhart and Robert Sabuda have created nothing short of magic with this three-book mythology-themed set. Each page has one large, impressive, center-piece pop-up that often extends far beyond the boundaries of the book. In addition to that there are little flaps on every page that lead to their own mini-...more
Mythological beasts, gods and heroes....and a pop-up book, besides! You can't go wrong with this combination, and Reinhart and Sabuda don't disappoint with this one. They go beyond the traditional Olympic tales to include other cultures; Japan, the Americas, and more. The illustrations and side matter add to the information in a way that is engaging and understandable...and don't forget the pop-ups! For grades 1-6
This is an amazing book; I liked the detail and illustrations in this book. Once I opened it I couldn’t put it down. The book is very intricate and it is one of the most innovate interactive popup book I have read. The author filled this book with interesting information about ancient heroes and mythical legends across the world. The book explores century’s old myths and legends from Ancient Egypt, Zeu’s Kingdom on Mount Olympus, the famous city covered in water Atlantis and it also ventures to...more
No doubt about it--the star of this book is Robert Sabuda's intricate popups of Mt. Olympus, Pele, and other mythological characters. Reinhart's brief retellings will intrigue readers and send them looking for detailed versions of these classic stories.
