Wealth. Privilege. Way too many pastel-tinted opinions. That is Carly's life, and . . . It's. Getting. On. Her. Nerves. Carly is ready to ditch the southern princess act and become real. The thing is, she's always counted on her little sister, Anna, to love and support her - and tell her how right she is. But when Anna turns "hot" over the course of a single summ...more

My whole "relationship" with the main character was strange. I liked her, then I got annoyed, then mad, then annoyed again, then I finally liked her again (but not as much as I first did). At the very beginning I had great hope for her. Carly seemed to have it right. The very beginning of the book opens with Carly writing a letter to her sister Anna and I could totally understand what she was trying to say. I could relate to the exact feelings that she was describing. A few more pages...more

Myracle's previous book, Bliss didn't do it for me, but this one is a good read I can honestly recommend to my students.

The sisterly relationship in the book feels real, much like the relationship in Laura and Amy did: there are good things, and bad things, about being/having a sister. It's also good at showing how relationships between friends change, and how people change as they grow. The only thing that didn't ring entirely true was the boyfriend/girlfriend relationship, but th...more

The Short of It

Baby sister isn’t the baby anymore.

The Long of It

Carly, the older sister by one year, returns from her summer trip helping the environment. Her parents might secretly think she’s a hippie or cause seeker. Upon her return, her newest decision was to stop shaving her legs. Anna is entirely opposite. Even though she’s younger only by one year, she’s definitely the baby and princess in the family. Anna also fits in with the country club lifestyle tha...more

Peace Love & Baby Ducks by Lauren Myracle tells the story of two sisters. Carly is a year older than Anna, but they have always been best friends. Carly feels this need to always take care of Anna and make sure that she is protected.

Carly is a sophomore in high school and her sister is a freshman. Over the summer, Anna transformed into a “hot” young woman and Carly struggles with her sister’s new found beauty. Guys at school think Anna is hot and girls want to be her friend. Carly stru...more

I just recently had the privilege of reading the book, Peace, Love and Baby Ducks- it was a very well written and colorful book! Peace, Love and Baby Ducks, written by Lauren Myracle, is based in modern times America in the state of Georgia. One of the sisters, Carly, goes away for the whole summer. When she returns her sister, Anna, who will be joining Holy Redeemer, Carly's school, has gone from not so pretty and invisible to beautiful and popular over only one summer. Now Carly has to start wa...more

The bad news escalates quickly in this high school candy romance. Nothing too traumatic, but it made me thankful that my family isn’t so dysfunctional as the Lauderdales.

Myracle keeps the story moving with her strong direct writing. And she sets up some interesting subplots – the morals and machinations of a fundamental Christian private school; life as a super-rich teen with overbearing power parents; the perils of veering from social norms.

But it all takes a backseat ...more

Friends, family, and identity. Carly is a sophomore at an elite prep school for Atlanta's royalty who is trying to figure out how she can be authentic, which means being different than everyone around her and standing up to all the pressure from her parents and peers. She also wants to be a good older sister, find good friends, and locate herself an "ironic love boodle." So she must negotiate some very murky waters in her attempts to rebel against the norms that her loved ones embra...more

One thing this book has going for it is the cover. I don't know why but I really like the cover. And the title also. It pretty much sums up the book because there is peace, there is love and yes there is also baby ducks. Actually I find the cover to be one of the reasons why I picked up this book in the first place. I think it's because it's a really simple but really effective cover.

Unfortunately, this wasn't my kind of book. There were a few things I didn't like and if I look at this...more

Review: I loved this book and sucked it down in one night of self-abandoned reading. (I even skipped watching the Gossip Girl season premiere (for shame) to read this book.)

Is that not enough enticement of how awesome this book is?

I'm afraid that anything I write won't be truly awesome and it'll make you think that the book isn't completely awesome, and that would be (for shame) too bad. I'm half-tempted to just repost the fantastic review of this boo...more

Carly and Anna are two sisters who are very close in age, but very far apart in personality.

Carly is a sophomore in high school who is very skinny after spending six weeks of the summer working outdoors in Tennessee. She wants to be different than the "Barbies" (as she calls them) at her preppy Catholic School. Anna is a freshman in high school who suddenly grew a large chest over the summer, has all the right curves, and i...more

Yes, this is one of those books where the girl likes the wrong boy, eventually figures it out, and then also figures out that the right boy was there all along. It's nothing that shocking or revolutionary. But still, it's rather sweet, especially with the addition of all the sister drama. It's hard, being jealous of your sister: you still love her, and want good things for her, but there's a tiny part of you that wants even better things for yourself. The "why me?"s can be overwhelming...more

I just love Lauren Myracle's writing. It's so humorous and fun, I can never be disappointed by her. This book made me believe this even more. What drew me in, in the first place, was the title. Peace, Love, and Baby Ducks.... it sounded kind of.. exotic? I read the back cover and decided to get it, because, well, it was by Lauren Myracle.

The book was about the importance of sisters. The sisters, Carly and Anna, were about joined at the hip. The stuck to each other, they were best fr...more

Carly has just returned from a summer camp experience in the hills of Tennessee where she was exposed to music from the 60s, tie-dye shirts, and long skirts with bangles on the bottom. Returning home to Atlanta, she's a different person than she was before and doesn't fit the mold of the community surrounding her: an extremely wealthy family & a private southern school. She dyes her hair and cuts it short (a disaster, even in her mind), she wears her new batiks and tie-dyes and challenges the ...more

Carly comes home from her summer internship (building and maintaining hiking trails) ready to take on the world, but all she finds is that her little sister, Anna, has grown up (developed into serious babe material), she and her best friend Peyton have grown apart, and pretty much everyone is disgusted by how much leg hair she’s grown while she was away. Carly doesn’t want to be just another one of the rich, privileged kids who goes to her Catholic high school, but she’s having trouble distingu...more

Having been accustomed to Myracle's Instant Messaging style of writing, it's a bit unsettling reading a grammatically correct and structured novel. It still retains the normal growing up, adolescent angst, combined with a serious look into the depths of sisterhood. I wished the characters could have been more real, rounded, and developed though. Like the parents, for instance. At points, they were so oblivious and wooden that I didn't even know if they were real or not. They were just there to c...more

I saw Lauren Myracle speak at CAL this year, and I would say two words really define her: awesome and spitfire. So I was pleased to see that these words also defined her heroine, Carly. Although Carly did get annoying at times to me as an adult, she also felt refreshingly real, and was full of all of the inconsistencies and conflicting motives that being a teen is all about.

I also loved reading about the dynamic of the sister relationship. I am an only child, and my boyfriend is not...more

This story follows Carly and her attempt to be real in a world where pink toe nails, hair extensions and wearing the right make-up rule the day. But more than that, this story is about the relationship between sisters. The love, the anger, the tears, the laughter that come from the deep connection that is developed over the years.

Throughout the book, I had mixed feelings regarding the main character. She was hard to relate to sometimes. Other times, I could empathize with the ang...more

I had really high hopes for this book. I’d read an interview on another author’s blog with Lauren Myracle and she talked about setting her books in Atlanta because she grew up here. I thought this would be a refreshing change from reading books set in NYC or LA. Well, it wasn’t much of a change. I guess it was just equal opportunity because all this book proved is that you don’t have to live in NYC or LA to be a rich, vapid mean-girl. The book was set in Buckhead which should have been sign...more

This book is about a girl named Carly. She has a younger sister Anna who is more developed. they both go to the some school. But when Anna thinks that she is more like Carly, like doing the wrong thing, Carly's life goes upside down. The guy she likes now likes her sister. how will that be resolved?

I noticed a text to world connection. I think this because almost every older sister has to be a role model. There younger sister would usually copy. That is just like what Carly and Anna ...more

Lauren Myracle just gets better and better! I've always liked her writing, and have read most of her stuff just b/c she's local and I've met her and she's such a cool person. But this is her best yet! Carly and Anna are sisters - just one year apart and very close. Carly has always been the leader, the cool one, the center of attention, and the protector of her baby sister. The summer of her sophomore year in high school, Carly goes out of state to clear trails at a national park in Tenness...more

To be honest I bought this book mainly due to its title. I thought is was pretty adorable and figured there had to be a cute story inside. Don't get me wrong, I had actually heard of the book before, and had read a review on another blog (Unfortunately, I don't remember whose) so I wasn't going in completely blind.

Carly is about her sophomore year of high school, except this year she won't be alone because her little sister, Anna, will also be starting as a freshmen. Except over the ...more

I had a nice long review for this typed up but then accidently deleted it so I'm going to give it another try.
Peace, Love, and Baby Ducks is a story about individuality, family, sisters, and growing up. There were times where I found myself having trouble getting through this and I thought the plot was pretty predictable. Why such a high rating then? Because I loved the characters. I found them relatable and realistic. The relationship between Carly and her younger sister Anna reminded me ...more

This was my first Lauren Myracle and while I enjoyed it overall, I wish I could give the first half three stars and the second half two. I am a sucker for sister stories, half the reason I read this book, but I felt a bit mislead. The plot/dust jacket leads you to believe that it's about Carly feeling rejected by her little sister Anna when they start high school and Anna becomes popular, but the story didn't really go in that direction at all. It's more about Carly ignoring Anna when Anna needs...more

There is a lot going on in Peace, Love and Baby Ducks but Myracle makes it all fit. The sibling relationship between Carly and Anna is relatable for anyone who has felt need the need to be a unique person mixed with the comfort of having someone who gets you because you grew up together. Every reader will understand Carly's desire to express her individuality. The romance is just enough of the story to be enjoyable without overshadowing the rest of the story. Myracle even brings in religion - Ca...more

This is a great book by one of my favorite authors. It is about a girl named Carly. She spends time at camp, and her self confidence is not the best. When she gets back she sees that her younger sister has developed and she hasn't which doesn't help. She has all the boys and Carly's friends have more in common with her. When she finds out that Cole, her crush is interested in her sister she is devastated.
I can make a text to world connection with Carly because a lot of people mat...more

When it comes to reading for teens, I usually choose what I think will be the happier, more upbeat realistic teen fiction. Judging from the cover and title of this book, you can guess that I was not disappointed. This book did not veer off into any dark areas except when it lightly touches on the racism apparent in this wealthy area near Atlanta, GA. Other than that it's a typical teen stuff: two sisters, one who has a body that is suddenly garnering unwanted attention from boys and the other si...more

A story centered around 2 sisters. One wants to break free from the culture around her and relishes the 60's. The other wants to fit in at her high school. They are rich and go to a religious school and as they start their first year of high school together they realize how they are growing apart. I like the relationship between the sisters and how real it is. My 12 year old niece had told me the book talked about "hairy legs and boobs a lot" so I thought I would read it to see if it w...more

Carly has just returned to her Atlanta life of wealth and privilege, after a summer volunteering in the mountains of Tennessee. Besides her new muscled and toned body, Carly has a new outlook on life. She’d rather embrace being different (think 60’s music and hippie clothing) than conform to the cookie-cutter rich girl mold of their prestigious, private school. But Carly isn’t the only one who has changed over the summer. Her younger sister Anna has developed a hot body and undesired attenti...more

Teens will not be disappointed with Ms. Myracle’s latest, a throwback to hippiedom and a testament to sisters, Peace, Love, & Baby Ducks. Taking place in the wealthiest neighborhood in Atlanta, this is the story of 60s-obsessed Carly and girly-girl Anna, two very different sisters with a very strong bond. But things change when Anna starts high school with her brand-new (gasp!) boobs, and Anna is getting the attention that Carly feels she, as the older sister, deserves. With everything suddenly ...more
