After a terrible tragedy, a parent-teacher-student confrontation leads to the discovery of two new worlds. This occurs in the "Susquehanna Territory" in northeastern PA in a future time in the 21st century when EMP has mysteriously destroyed all electrical power--presumably worldwide. To survive, with circumstances much better in a rural area, a "wall" has been built to ...more

The 4th star given under doubt, but for a book that was obviously written by an amateur, this one really impressed me. The language was fluid and eager, helping to make this into a page-turner. We have a voice of a storyteller here - in fact, the book seems written for reading aloud. Names are easy to pronounce and remember. The mix of near-future science fiction and low-magic fantasy was done in an untraditional way, by making the fantasy appear as sub-stories within the sci-fi framework (but ...more

One thing I dislike is getting taken unawares by a multi-book series. On the upside, I'm curious about the rest of the stories.

There are two parallel tales being told here, one is the extremely unlikely formation of the Susquehanna Territory shortly after the EMP that Kills the World ... or the World of Technology, at least. The end of the world is too tidy, but I'm letting that pass in favor of focusing on the main story, although the cover or wrap-around story has some mysteries poking out he

In a world damaged by progress, life continues in pockets and territories throughout the earth. Power is no longer available, having been destroyed by an electromagnetic pulse. In this new earth, time is now viewed as BEMP and AEMP. It is here, AEMP that the story begins, in the newly formed Susquehanna territory of Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Two students are accused by their Science teacher Marvin Cample of cheating. Both students, Michael Hammond and Triana Simms are not just honor students but

After the Earth experiences an eletromagnetic pulse that wipes out all electricity, people in Susquehanna Territory in rural Pennsylvania try to continue their lives. About a month after the global tragedy, two Christian students are accused of cheating on an assignment. What follows is a deep discussion between them, their atheistic teacher and their pastor which leads to the discovery of possible life on other planets that may have already visited Earth.

I enjoyed this story very much and I don

Earth Is Not Alone is a very interesting book. It raises many questions while entertaining the reader. The plot is well developed and the characters are great. I would give this book four stars.

The stories within a story were so convoluted that I cannot recommend reading the book for most readers. Christian motifs and references were woven into the story, with liberal intermixing of Old and New Testament references. Nesting the paired stories within a controversy over two students cheating while writing the stories, that take up most of the novel, is contrived and unsuccessful.

I see myself as an educated but lay theologian, and just don't get it. Why is the story nested in a post-apoca

Earth Is Not Alone by John Knapp II

This is a bit of a strange book. It purports to be science fiction but it appears to be proselytizing rather than story telling. Parables come to mind after reading it. I’m just not sure.

I still am confused as to the message of the book. It seems to be stating that there is one God for aliens and earthlings alike. I didn’t find any of the characters particularly appealing. The structure of the book was disjointed. It divides itself into a story telling about t

This book wasn't at all what I expected and about 100 pages in I was very confused and I have to admit frustrated. I felt like the same thing was discussed over and over, but I was no closer to realizing what the heck was going on. Then I discovered that this book wasn't at all what I thought it was going to be. I was expecting more of a dystopia about life on Earth after an EMP knocks out all modern day technology. That's not what this book is though. Earth Is Not Alone leans more to the ...more

I've been working on this one for a long time, and will admit it's been way too easy for me to set this aside to read something else. I don't care for the style of book at all--it's like the book is telling me a story. I mean like, "and here, reader, our characters do this". Also, nothing makes sense. I have no idea what's going on, or why I should even care.
