Not gonna lie, I'm totally giving this volume a 5 star rating simply because of this:

bad ass

OMG that is so many levels of bad ass I can't even begin to describe it!!! The first chapter of this volume kicked so much ass I was about ready to jump out the window from the sheer awesomeness of it all! The rest was good too...but seriously, that first chapter has probably been my favorite in this entire series so far.

I really like the reapers! William is righteous, Grelle is AMAZING, and the new one that sh

Holy shit...THAT sure took a dark turn!

The beginning was filled with action right away. It starts with the Circus troop attempting their attack on the manor and I must say...

DEM SERVANTS! What badasses!

BTW: When did Mey-Rin get so hot?

Though I really did feel conflicted about everyone in the troop (view spoiler). On one hand, they kind of deserved it, I mean...snatching innocent children and what not. But on the other hand they were rather tragic and emotionally warped cha

With every volume I read, I become more invested in this series. I love all the characters and all the plot twists. Yana Toboso does such a wonderful job creating a gripping series with beautiful, lush art. The art is just as much a reason to read it as the plot. It’s the best manga art I’ve come across, so far.

Following Ciel through his journey has been exciting and sometimes heartbreaking. This was one of those times that it was hea

i have too many feels about this part.

I have a lot to say about this one, so even though I don't generally review mangas anymore, I'm going to do it anyway :P

Warning, there may or may not there is be spoilers, if you're looking at this before reading - for some reason? - than I'd advise against continuing.

Okay.
So.
First I have to say that I heard, only heard, that the third season is going to be involving the circus, and you don't even understand the excitement I have. Because the way that th

And so the circus arc is brought to it's conclusion (?). It's shocking, violent and utterly brilliant. Then the transition back to comedy is smooth. This series literally has everything. (Except maybe accurate representations of Victorian ideals at the time: "Nina!! You're being indecent by exposing so much of your legs!!" ...Meanwhile no one bats an eyelid at her groping Mey-Rin's breasts! I'm 99% sure that would've been a scandal in the nineteenth century.)

The characters continue to shine. Cie

The manga is so violent now, too much blood. I feel so sorry for little Ciel; his past is so dark. When he was in Sebastian's arms he looked so fragile.

But then, his decision about all members of Gelvin's house... that was disturbing, and so coward of him. Who the hell does he think he is? Only because he went thru so much, and terrible stuff, and because he is the master of a great demon like Sebastian, he does not have any right. I don't understand his decision at all, and it made me almost di

#8 Black Butler series - Manga

The dark events of volume 7 continue. The horror of the missing children is only relieved when Lord Ciel's manor is attacked. We finally learn why the laughably incompetent household staff are employed.

As the mystery is resolved and the manor made safe, I was surprised to learn the depth of 12 year old Lord Ciel's cynicism and ruthlessness. I fear we'll learn more of what childhood experiences could have left our young Earl with this hard, unfeeling side. :-(

Like the other stories in this series, it didn't disappoint! The story line and plot was very well thought out. The tale of Ciel and Sebastian going to the circus to find the perpetrator and the leader who is calling the shots to kidnap the kids from various cities every time the circus came to town.

This story was both very sad, and very amusing! With Ciel’s mission ending, having found who was kidnapping the kids, and seeing to it that they cease to exist was a little harsh if you consider what

Wow. Wow. Go Team Phantomhive!

(view spoiler)

Black Butler, Vol. 8 is probably my favorite volume so far. It keeps your heart racing with amazing action sequences and then hits you in the gut with its morbid twists and turns. The moral ambiguity will have you teetering between cheering Ciel on and then cursing him all at the same time. He is such an ornery thi

I will NOT, I repeat, NOT be continuing this series. After this volume, I've lost all enjoyment in this series.

It wasn't that it wasn't good; it was .. I guess.. But Ciel Phantomhive, you have pushed me to Alienation Planet for the last time, and this last time, it was a forceful shove off the cliff into a glass filled pit of anger and hair-pulling.

CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!

The gardener was used for scientific experiments making him a good fighter and incredibly strong.

The maid is sexy and an amazing sniper!! She totally took those circus freaks out. The chef is a machine with those newly made weapons, though he destroyed half the Phantomhive building blowing things up. At least they took out the enemy and kept Lizi and the secrets safe.

Ciel sure knows how to pick his help. Tanaka is awesome too! How could I not have known about this? Sup

ITS GONE SO DARK!! I mean like WOW really really dark!

So it starts with the servants protecting the manor and you see that they are not useless cooks/cleaners/gardeners but they are actually bad ass fighters! They kill everyone in like 10 minutes!!

Back with Ciel and Sebastian and if got a bit confused with Ciel's past and what happened to him and the other children before Sebastian rescued him (when they first met)

But back in the present Sebastian kills everyone and then Ciel orders him to burn

This volume starts right at the point the last volume ended. The action-packed scene gives a glimpse into the true natures of the servants of the Phantomhive estate -- and they are pretty kick-ass!

While the servants are busy protecting the estate, Ciel Phantomhive and his Demon Butler learn about Joker's and the other Circus members past. They, including Joker, are surprised to discover even darker truths. Ciel feels he has no other course, then to order his Butler to take extreme measures.

I'm kind of glad this circus arc is done. I realize that the whole series is a bit on the dark side, but holy crap the whole circus plot really freaked me out! It was good to see Ciel's household staff come to his defense which is a bit of a departure from their usual goofy selves. still, I'm hoping the circus storyline is done for good. I'll be cowering in a corner if anyone needs me.

Not much happened in this book but I still enjoyed it and I still think it is well written and as usual the artwork is stunningly beautiful. The only reason this got 4 stars instead of 5 is the fact that it was not a story arc but a filler between stories. This doesn't take away from how good it is, but I like the stories.

Ah, this volume was so bloody and dark and disturbing and I loved it. A fitting end to the Noah's Circus story arc, especially if you are fans of Ciel's servants and the shinigami that collect the souls of Victorian London. Last chapter was a welcome bright spot in a book of mostly depressing material, although the cognitive dissonance in its placement was a bit jarring. I really wish Yen Press did 'next volume' previews for Black Butler; it needs it!

Hahahaha I just love Ciel!! No matter how messed up he's getting, I'm glad that we're getting a glimpse at his past.
I found it interesting that when he found the factory for the abandoned kids, he laughed at the Circus worker's deaths and persistence at something that no longer existed.
One thing for sure I'm glad about, is that Ciel killed that creepy man they called "father." He scared the shit out of me, maybe because I was reading this at the dead of night or maybe because he cut off his own

Hell yeah, Meirin. I love seeing the Phantomhive employees doing their secondary duties, it's a refreshing comparison to how incredibly inept they are as actual domestic servants.

Meanwhile, Ciel is being shoved further and further into the trauma of his past, eventually breaking so far that he disregards the one of the few tenents he lives by (following the Queen's orders). He has Sebastian "turn everything [here] to ash". And he does, in spectacularly attractive style (don't judge me).

This is the eighth volume in the Black Butler series. This has been an absolutely fantastic manga series and this book was just as wonderful and entertaining as all the previous books.

When the troops from Noah’s Ark Circus arrive at the Phantomhive Mansion they are in for a surprise. The Phantomhive staff may be incompetent at their day jobs but they are all kickass fighters in their own right and it was awesome to see them in action. This book ties up the Noah’s Ark Circus story arc and ends o
