Well, I knew I was in for a good read when I noticed on the cover that this book came with recipes. You can't possibly write a book showcasing the talents of the vendors participating in a Farmer's Market and not give us some of their secrets. And for the family of vendors at Bailey's Farmer's Market, there are more than their fair share of secrets going on!

I'm not sure I can put my finger on exactly why this book didn't appeal to me. I liked the sleuth, Becca, as well as Ian and Officer O'Brion (Sam). The mystery started with the death in the first 3 pages and gave a good amount of clues. The setting didn't do much for me. The book takes place in rural South Carolina, but nothing about the book seemed southern to me. I guess I expect quirkier/better/funnier characters in southern writing. The Farmer's Market could just as easily been anywher

If you great culinary cozies, you'll enjoy the first installment in the Farmers Market's series, Farm Fresh Murder. Becca Robins is a farmer who makes berry and pumpkin preserves at Bailey's Market. When word comes down that Matt Simonsen is murdered, everyone's a suspect, including herself and her twin Allison. She butts head with Sam Brion, the police officer on the scene, and has feelings for Ian Cartwright, an artist who's a decade younger and clad with tattoos. There's chemistry between th

Polly recommended this mystery written by the mom of one of Christopher's teammates. When Polly delivered it to me at a game, Paige came over at half time, "I just have to tell you what a thrill it is to see someone with a copy of my book, this is a first." Perhaps our book group will be interested in reading it and having Paige come to chat with us.
I liked it and enjoyed Paige's story telling. Nice flow that maintained interest. Might even make some pumpkin preserves fo More...

Twice married farmer Becca Robins loves making preserves and selling them at the local farmers' market. A new vendor at the market is found murdered, and Becca is concerned for her sister, who runs the market, and her dear friend Abner, who has helped her a lot, and who is the leading suspect in the mysterious death. Two attractive--and very different--men are showing an interest in Becca, but she can't listen to their warnings about staying out of the investigation--not when she's the only on

I better give this a solid four stars, because immediately upon finishing this book I found the sequel (Fruit of All Evil) and read that. This isn't one of those life-changing books, but it's a delightful genre tale, filled with murder, mystery, and even some real jam recipes at the end. I love the main character (twice divorced berry grower) and her two love interests (artist and cop) along with the way she just can't get her nose out of the mystery that could land one of her good friends behin

Review originally posted on Bitten Books and given 3½ stars.
Becca Robins, preserve maker extraordinaire, arrives at Bailey's Farmers' Market to sell her goods one morning only to discover that customers might be a little put off by the atmosphere. A dead body and a bunch of police will do that though. Becca needs this murder solved quickly so that her sister doesn't lose her job, a close friend doesn't end up going to jail and she doesn't end up as the next victim.

I especially like it when a mystery gets right to the action, the death happens within the first five pages...now THAT'S what I'm talkin' 'bout. The rest of the book is all about getting Becca involved (in a satisfying to me way....come on you know how I am) in solving the murder.
I enjoyed the whole process, watching Becca meet the hottie new guy, Ian, and the possible new guy, police Officer Brion. Becca admits she doesn't have a fab history with men, so she treads carefully with both.

This was a maiden voyage in a new mystery series. I really liked the setting and the story. You knew it was a murder by the first dozen pages and so you mentally settle in for the sleuth's journey to finding justice. I would like to know more about the main character (sleuth) but was thankful that the plot moved on so well. I recommend this book and look forward to Book Two. Oh, and there are some yummy recipes that my friend and I are actually going to try out this summer/fall.

I liked it but it wasn't a non-stop read for me. Some times it really dragged and was boring to me. I do like that the murder was in the first chapter and it starts it off on a fast moving pace, but it doesn't keep it. I love farmers markets and the recipes in the back of the book but you can tell this is her first novel. I get really bugged when there are typo's, it makes me feel like the editor or who ever looks over those things didn't care enough to read it themselves (this one has a lot

So, it is that time of year to read some of the reader's choice books from the library. I actually liked this one and I even knew who the murderer was so I was quite proud of myself. I just wanted to get to the end of the story. I figure that with murder mysterys the author doesn't talk about the prime suspect till the end. But, I guess you will have to read it to find out. It was an easy read and fun at the same time.

This is the first book in the Farmer's Market mystery series. The murder happens right away and the sleuthing begins. I enjoyed the setting and recipes as well as the lead character of Becca. I had a few problems with her nosiness putting her in danger as well as some repetition, but the story moves pretty quickly over all.
I liked the secondary characters, too, and I see a lot of potential in the future mysteries.

The story is set in a small town with all the connected relations and secrets of a small town. The murder occurs at a farmer's market, and the characters are all people who are involvee in that market or another market. The story line is good, but I gave it 3 stars because I couldn't connect with the main character - instead of just referencing her background, there needed to be a little more backfill I think.

Loved this. This is most definitely a cozy, but this book had a little more to it. Even though I love this genre, it seems some characters are becoming more caricatures than characters. Not in this book. In particular, the potential love interests were much more dimensional - real guys - than in lots of cozies I’ve read lately. I just “nooked” the second of the series and hope I don’t get caught reading at my desk today.

This is one of the few books I have read that I was tempted to toss in the trash as soon as I finished it. The plot and characters are boring, and to top it all off, the writing is terrible - leaden and obvious. There were several times when the author used "lead" as the past tense of "to lead"; i.e., "The police officer was lead down the wrong path by a false clue."

It was good. The author managed to make you suspect several people--although, as usual, the least-suspected character was guilty! I began to figure it out a little before the end, though not the motive. I will probably read the others in the series. It's a good book to read when you don't really have the energy to read something that makes you think.

A mystery book should excite you and this one just didn't for me. I don't really care about any of the characters, so that makes it hard to get interested in a book. The concept is good. I never go to Farmers Markets, but they just sound so fresh and good. Unless of course someone gets murdered there. Ha ha.

I would have given this book 3 1/2 stars, if that was possible. I will continue to read the series. I did correctly predict who the killer was about 3/4 of the way in (which I've never done with a mystery!), but I still enjoyed reading the book. It was well-written and I liked the characters.

I really liked this one. The mystery part of the story revolves around an old love rectangle (one woman who at one point loved three friends ;) ). Our main character Becca is involved in her own confusion when it comes to the ways of the heart. I definitely want to read more from this cozy series.

This was a fun read. My attention was pretty focused in one direction, so I missed the real killer until it started being revealed.
Some recipes are included at the end that might be ice to try :)
No real bad language, very little of any garden variety swearing. Nice and clean.

I read this for the Reader's Choice contest at my local library. This book had an engaging plot, but there were so many typos and grammatically awkward/incorrect sentences that I couldn't bring myself to give a higher rating than 3 stars. Overall, quick and fun read.

This book was amazing. I really loved the characters. Usually I can figure out a plot, but this book had me guessing. I don't want to give anything away, but my heart was racing towards the end. I want to find out what happens with Becca's love life.

This was a Reader's choice nominee for the SL County Libraries. I am voting for this great new mystery. I love triangle made the mystery even better. Also, there are some great recipes at the end of the book.

Cute, cozy, nice mystery with bonus recipes I'd love to try. The perpetrator is a surprise, but not a bad one. I've got the second one checked out from the library, and I'm glad to be able to read the two close together.

Great new series- I liked the strength and contentment of the heroine. I figured out the mystery before the reveal, but I'm looking forward to more books in this series.

The book is about a young lady named Becca. She has a knack for getting involved in a murder. It reminded me of too many murder mysteries I've read lately.

I like cosy mysteries, so I thought this one would be fun. However, I found I simply didn't care enough about the characters or the story to finish the book.

This is a fun, easy read. I attended a book review with the author; she is delightful and gracious. I would definitely read the next book in the series.

I'd really give this about 2.5 stars. It was a fun mystery, but the characters weren't developed enough for me to really get into the story.
