At the end of Pleasure of a Dark Prince, we saw three separate epilogues where several creatures from the Lore were captured- one of whom was Carrow the Incarcerated.

Wow! Wow! Wow! To say I loveDemon from the Dark is an understatement! I adore everything about this powerfully written book.

With out a doubt, Demon from the Dark has become my favorite book in the series, and suffice it to say, it was mostly due to the... wait-for-it... romance. Yep, I ate my words big time when I said (in last book's review) that I had become mostly ambivalent to the romance element in this series.

Kresley Cole is one of my favorite authors today. So far she has not hit a sour note for me. So it's no surprise to me that I loved this book, but it did surprise me how MUCH I loved it.

I really really liked this book. The couple is great and so very primal. Their fated love in the beginning showed the essence of natural chemistry as crutches like language were not given to them. They truly fought for each other. Malkom had a hard time trusting Carrow, rightfully so, and she stuck by him like the ride or die chick she is. My favorite type of heroes are the dark, tortured ones and Malkom is probably the most tormented hero in the IAD to date. But, on the other hand, I felt a strange disconnect from Carrow and their romance overall. From the few, albeit brief, glimpses we’ve had of Carrow up to this point, Kresley Cole had led us to believe that she’s this absolute wild child. We’ve heard that she engages in a lot of drunken carousing, she’s a prankster, she gets thrown in jail just for fun! Because of that, I was expecting her to be different. The truth is, for me, she was kind of tame. Nothing about her really stood out. She was like a watercolor done in pastels when I was expecting a vivid oil painting. Disappointing.

Now, let me just say that I hadn’t really been anticipating this book since Carrow was never a character I had much interest in. Would I love to read about Lucindeya, though she only played a small part in “No Rest for the Wicked?” Yes, because I’m interested in her story. I want to know why she had entered the Hie, what motivated her, what she had lost. Would I like to read about Loa, who was in only one scene of the “Untouchable” novella? Heck, yeah, because she’d be the only heroine of color so far. And what about Tera of the Fey or Annika, Emmaline’s adoptive mother? You betcha. But Carrow? Eh, I’d never had much interest in her. However, once I’d read the summary of the book, and later the excerpt, my interests were piqued and I thought I might like her. And it’s not that I disliked her, per se, but apathy sure isn’t what I want to be feeling for the heroine when everything is said and done. Still, Kresley Cole never fails to entertain. This book wasn’t one I’d stay up all night to read, but I was certainly interested and the pace picked up toward the end. And, though I didn’t love it, I’m still eagerly looking forward to the next book, in which we finally get Regin’s story. I guess the bottom line is that I think it failed to live up to its potential. It could have been much darker and more emotionally intense, but I just wasn’t feeling that.

Moving on to the plot of the book -- If you’re caught up with the series, you’ll know that at the end of “Pleasure of a Dark Prince,” various immortals had been kidnapped. In “Demon From the Dark” we find out that they’ve been taken by a band of mortals who call themselves the Order. It seems that they rise up against the immortals whenever the Accession is imminent. Some of their members want to destroy all of the immortals and some just want to study them.

Carrow and the others are taken to a facility on a mysterious island where they’re held prisoner under the command of the clearly unstable Declan Chase. Carrow is tasked with going into Oblivion, a demon plane, to draw out a vemon (demon vampire) named Malkom so that the Order can study him. Though she wants to refuse to do the Order’s bidding, they ensure her cooperation by threatening to harm her new ward, the seven-year-old daughter of her cousin who was killed when the Order came to take her captive. She demands that they release her and Ruby once she’s delivered Malkom into their hands, and when they concede she agrees to do what they ask.

Malkom has led a pitiful existence. Betrayed, enslaved, tortured, turned into an abomination that other demons fear, he lives in the water mines in Oblivion, alone and friendless. When Carrow comes along, he thinks that after being betrayed time and time again, fate has finally given him his due by sending him a mate he can protect and provide for. In a way he’s right, because beneath her party girl exterior Carrow is vulnerable and suffering from some serious abandonment issues and there’s nothing she longs for more than someone who will cherish her. But even as she starts to fall for him, she knows that she’ll have to deliver him to the Order or risk Ruby’s life. Desperate to safeguard her new charge and unable to breach the communication barrier between them enough to make Malkom understand her predicament, she decides to follow through with the plan and use Malkom’s desire for her to lure him into the Order’s grasp. Little does she know that Hell hath no fury like a demon deceived. As she’ll find out soon enough -- those who betray Malkom do it only once.

“Carrow is Malkom’s”

Well, the way Kresley has made me fall so hard for this hero, I so wish I could say “Malkom is Mahlet’s” *sigh* I bow down to Kresley for delivering such a beautiful, intense story ten - count that - TEN! - freaking books into the IAD series. This is quite possibly the strongest IAD book yet. For the last few years, whenever I encountered another IAD fan, I always had to throw in a “Lachlain and Bowen are still my favorites, but I really loved __so and so’s__ book, too!” No more. There has got to be room for Malkom’s book. Really - just one of the most tortured, fierce and protective males in the PNR genre.

At the mere age of 6, Malkom’s whore of a mother handed him over to a male vampire - knowing he would be used as a blood and sex slave. As the vamp wasn’t interested in drinking from or abusing anyone too old, Malkom was tossed on the streets at the age of 14. He survived and turned himself into a fierce warrior, under the command of his only friend, Prince Kallen the Just, leader of the Throthan demonarchy on the hell plane, Oblivion. As the Throthan’s are betrayed by one of their own, Malkom is turned into a vemon (a demon poisoned with vampire blood) against his will. He’s disgusted with what he has become and hates himself. Through no fault of his own, he becomes enemy #1 of nearly every creature on Oblivion. Illiterate, dirty, wild, territorial, with absolutely NO sexual experience with women - not even first base! - Malkom has lived alone in his mountain den for centuries, waiting for revenge. He had one hard and fast rule - no one betrays him more than once, and everyone who has betrayed him, save one, is dead.

“Carrow the Incarcerated” is one of the witch coven’s wild childs - always in jail, causing a raucous and seemingly happy. She's not at all shy and definitely experienced, unlike Malkom. When Loreans of all kind (fey, lykae, sorceresses, valkerie, demons, etc.) begin disappearing, Carrow gets scooped up as well. They’re imprisoned on an island cloaked in magic, wearing special collars preventing use of their powers. We get to see what’s going on with Regin the Radient, who disappeared at the end of Book #9. The head captor, Chase, has taken a special interest in Regin, torturing her nearly every night (more on that in Regin’s book - up next in February *woot, woot!*). With an innocent life on the line, Carrow agrees to her captors demands: study the file on Malkom, enter the hell plane Oblivion, secure his trust, and get him back to the portal within 6 days, so Malkom can be captured, studied and tortured as well.

Carrow feels guilty as hell, but she agrees. As soon as she sets foot onto Oblivion, Malkom senses the mate he never even dared to dream about. His attraction is whole and instant, but not Carrow’s. He struggles to restrain his vemon strength, and he’s filty and overgrown so she can barely see his face! He speaks in Demonish, and she speaks English - the language he forced himself to forget. So initially, they communicate through physical gestures and just a few words. Their days together in his den were simply magical. Carrow’s quick to realize he’s never been with a woman, but Malkom’s quick to catch on with how to please a woman! ;) As the time to deliver Malkom to the island captors draws near, Carrow becomes more and more distraught. But she doesn’t see any other path.

Demon From The Dark has some of the best angry and emotional sex I’ve encountered in PNR. The intensity!!! Remember what I said about Malkom’s one hard and fast rule? I appreciate Kresley not making things easy for Malkom and Carrow - the internal conflicts Malkom deals with don’t just get swept under the rug with a quick, “Oh well, it’s alright...she’s my mate after all.” Meanwhile, all hell is breaking loose, literally. There’s fantastic action scenes. And one hell of a set up for Regin’s book (#11). This book was awesome, fresh, and one of the best yet in the IAD series. I have to echo a friend who described this book as perfect. I vow to never get behind on the IAD again, but I am super thrilled that my wait for Regin’s book is so short!!! haha! :)

I was enjoying the story until the never ending bathing scene halfway through. At first it was cute and sexy but it just kept going and nothing was happening except delayed sexual gratification. When it was finally over and I flipped to the next chapter, a week in the timeline had gone by. WTF? I wanted to see interaction between Carrow and Malkom during that week. More scenes showing them trying to communicate and more scenes showing them fall for each other. That would have made the...more 3.5 stars.

When it was finally over and I flipped to the next chapter, a week in the timeline had gone by. WTF? I wanted to see interaction between Carrow and Malkom during that week. More scenes showing them trying to communicate and more scenes showing them fall for each other. That would have made the upcoming betrayal more poignant. And rendered the book padding at the end unnecessary.

I liked Malkom and his primitive ways. He recognized Carrow as his mate and latched on to her. Fine and dandy. Then he gets betrayed and hates her. Still fine. Then he gets over his betrayal and suddenly isn’t sure Carrow can handle his past. WTFBBQ? Malkom never acted that way when he thought he had won Carrow before going through the portal. It also leads to endless introspection and scenes where they had to talk about their feelings. I felt like the delay at the cottage was a stalling tactic to extend the book. Or a way to advance the timeline for the rescue in the next book.

I wish the author hadn’t gone with the bad childhood routine for Carrow. Malkom already had that market cornered. I think Carrow could have been a genuine party girl and used that as the conflict with Ruby and Malkom instead of going emo. I am happy that her parents don’t make a sudden turnaround in her life at the end.

Another reviewer said the author lost focus during the book and compensated by turning up the sap. I have to agree.

I like the idea for the new series arc but this book felt like a prologue to the next book rather than a self-contained advancement of the Lore.

Malkom’s enemies get offed but it wasn’t fulfilling for me. The first two were taken out off-screen before Carrow is even introduced and the last is taken out by Carrow in a short section of the book well before the ending. That contributes to the feeling that this book wasn't really about Malkom and Carrow but rather a prelude to the next.

I never noticed this in her other books but the author changes POV mid-scene over and over and over. It was very choppy to read and felt like a rehashing of something that I just read.

Why was Conrad the only one able to find the island? The whole bit with him and Mariketa felt very deus ex machina and convenient.

I really liked some parts of the book but other parts disappointed me. It had great humor, sexual tension, and action. I enjoyed all the scenes at the prison and am extremely eager to read Regin’s book.(less)

Carrow Graie AKA Carrow the Incarcerated is a wild-child witch. Carrow is beautiful, seems to be carefree and is always searching for a good time. That is until she is abducted by the Order and forced to go into Oblivion to hunt for Malkom in order to protect someone dear to her. She didn't expect what she would find there.

I absolutely loved this book. I've always had a thing for the dark and tormented type and Malkom is most definitely that. Under all that dirt and grime, he's a tall, gorgeous, tattooed and pierced hunk of a man and the chemistry between him and Carrow was incredible. One of my favorite parts of the book was when Carrow gave him a bath and was finally able to see him completely (I don't mean the nudity but that's pretty hot too).

After all of his years of solitude and mistrust, Malkom allows Carrow to care for him even though he fears it. Down deep, he is a gentle, understanding man which isn't easy considering the fact that he doesn't speak Carrow's language. He is a demon with a vampire's thirst for blood and the burning desire to claim his mate. He won't let anyone or anything stand in his way.

I don't wanna give too much away with this review because a lot of stuff happens. I'll just say that the character development was brilliant, the sex was beyond steamy and the action kept me on the edge of my seat. I didn't want to put the book down and when I was finished with the book I found myself kinda sad. Yeah, I know I'm a huge frakkin weirdo. I truly felt connected to these tormented, emotionally-scarred characters and once back on Earth and out of harms way, I wanted to see how life unfolded for them. I'm sure they will be mentioned in future books, but it won't be the same. That being said, I look forward to Regin's story.(less)

I always liked Carrow from previous books. Her antics, fun-loving attitude, and ability to kick ass with the best of them, makes her one cool chic. And the way she adopted Ruby without hesitation made me like her all the more. She went from a hardcore partier to a mother overnight. She is deff one cool lady.

Malkom Slaine is the newest leading man in my fantasies - along side Cadeon of course. I really melted for him. He had such a devastating childhood, well a shitty life in general, so it was great finally seeing him not only find his Female, but gain a family - after the usual relationship hardships of course...lol.

Okay, all I can say is Wow!! This was an amazing read!! Well worth the wait. I loved every minute of it, couldn't put it down and I'm actually craving more. All that action, excitement, lust, deceit, and love. And lets not forget all those unwanted thoughts and feelings, the self-doubt, the inability to trust. Emotional turmoil is not the word for what these two went through.

Though there are many memorable scenes in this book the one that sticks in my mind the most is when Carrow shaves and baths Malkom in the pool... who knew something so normal could be turned into something that steamy. Of course it wasn't the only steamy scene in the book. Their night on the beach was another, mainly because it was Malkom's first time, strange that a man could be so sensual yet innocent at the same time. I also loved it at the end of the book when Carrow claimed Malkom as her husband in front of everyone, giving him exactly what he's always wanted - a place to belong. Aww... *sniff*

I also loved all the action and betrayal. Malkom is one scary piece of work, the way he butchered those other demons was amazing. It was gory as hell, but such a turn on - yes, yes, I'm perverted. We know that already. The fight scenes were great! I love the way Kresley describes them. What I also loved was how she depicted all our favorite Immortals locked up and tortured in the compound by Declan 'the asshat' Chase. Christ, I hate that man!! It was horrible!! But at least everyone involved in the torture got their comeuppance. I swear the end of this book had me on the end of my seat. There was so much crazy going, and I'm so excited about the next books in the series. From what I can tell at the end of this one there are gonna be some crackers!!

Anywho, like I was saying... this is a great read. You really have to grab a copy and see for yourselves.

Demon from the Dark introduces Kresely's most damaged and tortured hero yet. Malkom Slaine will have you aching with hurt. This is a demon who was sold by his mother as a child to be a vampire's blood slave. He then is saved by Prince Kallen, who becomes his best friend and confidant. Unfortunately he and Kallen are taken by Viceroy, the ruthless leader of the vampires. Viceroy decides to change both men into vampires as his ultimate revenge. When the bloodlust becomes too powerful for them both to ignore, one of them will end up killing the other in order to quench their thirst. It's not too hard to guess who kills whom. And this all happens in the prologue.

Fast forward to present day where the party girl witch and everything of the snark, Carrow Graie has been kidnapped along with her fellow immortal creatures by the Order. The Order is a group run by Declan Chase, who is experimenting and torturing the immortals and has no qualms about it. He is sinister and possibly evil, especially since the one he loves to torture most of all is Carrow's friend, the Valkyrie, Regin the Radiant. Also with Carrow are other familiar faces such as the vampire Lothaire, Lanthe, an evil sorceress, and the demon-angel Thronos who wants revenge against Lanthe. Chase wants Carrow to capture a vampiric demon, known as a vemon, and it happens to be Malkom. Carrow gives Chase the big old finger but he has something up his sleeve to make her do what he wants. Carrow has no choice but to accept and will go into the demon hell place of Oblivion where she has seven days to bring Malkom back with her.

Carrow enters Oblivion with only the clothes on her back and is in for a huge wake up call because the nasty creatures that reside there are way out of her league. Her first meeting with Malkom goes very badly. It looks like Carrow is his mate and now Malkom wants to claim her. But there's a small problem. First Malkom only speaks Demonish with a smattering of Latin. Plus he's not big on hygiene, as in he doesn't shave or bathes. And his way of courting Carrow is throwing her the head of some disgusting ghoul he decapitated. At first Carrow thinks Malkom is this big bloodthirsty demon, but then after he saves her a few times from death, she goes off with him to his lair and get him to trust her.

Malkom is incredibly lonely, but thinks now that he has his mate he can build a home and create offspring with her. But first he has to try to find a way to communicate with her and hold back from sucking her blood. And not only does he want her with every part of his being, but Carrow refuses to have sex with him. She'll give him little taste as long as he let's her bathe him and give him a haircut.

Soon these two have created a fragile trust and for once Malkom has hope that he will be loved. He thinks Carrow is his savior, but has no clue what she has planned. Carrow is falling for the big lug, but she knows if she hands him over to the Others, he will hate her make her suffer for her deceit.

Demon from the Dark is a rip roaring, action packed hotter than the steam rising off the cement paranormal tale that I'm urging everyone to read. The way Kresley can balance these tragic characters with some light hearted moments amazes me. Malkom is a big old teddy bear by the time Carrow gets through with him and we're given insight on Carrow's psyche and why she acts the way she does. Carrow may seem spoiled and undeserving, but that all changes, especially when she's with Malkom. There's a big scene where Malkom puts his total trust in Carrow, simply by taking a bath. These two are tender, loving and one of the most emotional love scenes I've read this year. And I will get this out in the open and say that Malkom doesn't know how to be around a woman. He's never even touched one. I can assume you know what this means.

The action doesn't let up and so many things come to light that will shock you. My mouth dropped when I figured out why Chase acts the way he does and it's quite the doozy. And things end on such a cliffhanger regarding two characters that need to be the stars of their own books.

I cannot give enough praise to Demon from the Dark and the incredible world building and creativity that shines through these pages. I simply bow down to Kresley's skill at bringing to life Malkom, Carrow and the whole cast of characters that has me so excited to read.

Ms. Cole has written a flawless book here. She wrote a hot, hot romance with two characters that I loved, flaws and all. She also had me believing that these people could fall in love with each other, even though they couldn’t speak the same language initially. I didn’t expect to be such a huge fan of Carrow when I met the party girl witch in Dark Desires After Dusk. But I do love her. It took me about five minutes into reading this to think, “I like her a lot.” Actually, the scene at the end of Pleasure of a Dark Prince had me feeling positively towards her. Now, I have to think she’s my favorite heroine in this series. Sorry Sabine!

A huge theme of this story is feeling abandoned/rejected/unwanted, like no one in the world truly loves you and accepts you. For Malkom, this was illustrated in a much more violent, heartbreaking manner. Malkom made my heart bleed. I could understand why he was such a violent, untrusting person who felt that being alone was the best option for him. I won’t go into all he suffered because I feel that this book needs to be read. You have to get to know Malkom the best way, by reading his story. But suffice it to say, no kid should go through what Malkom did. I so wanted him to have a beloved wife and a family. I wanted him to have that with Carrow and Ruby. Oh man, I just loved him. I was glad that Carrow ends up proving that she loves him and is worthy of being his fated mate.

In the case of Carrow, she finds herself in an untenable situation, and she is going to have betray the male that she falls deeply in love with. Normally, I would be raring at the bit, foaming at the mouth at what she did, because I hate deception. In this case, I could understand her dilemma. She ends up becoming the adoptive mother of an orphaned daughter of a friend murdered by Carrow’s human enemies. The thing about it was, Carrow acted like a parent. Parents have to make tough decisions. Their primary responsibility is to care for their children. She was over a barrel, and I respect that she stayed true and did what she had to with the intent to protect Ruby. And this decision almost cost her true love, putting her in that same situation of having love and affection denied to her, as she suffered as a materially privileged, but emotionally-starved young girl.

This situation shows what a masterful writer Kresley Cole is. She takes a scenario where you’re like, “This can’t end well,” and keeps you glued to the pages as she proves that it can, and has you enjoying the ride so much, you feel desolate when the book is over. That was this book (and all her books) in a nutshell. Also, did I mention, this woman knows how to write hot, hot, hot, really hot romance. For me, this was the hottest of her books. I think part of that was because I felt the intense pull that Carrow has on Malkom, and vice versa. They were like two powerful magnets exerting forces of attraction on each other (and pulling the reader along because the energy is so powerful). Ms. Cole manages to use every amorous moment to build the steam up until it’s about to explode and turn the book into a fireball. I really needed a fan as I read this book, and not just because Oblivion is like Yuma, Arizona with the thermostat turned up several degrees.

I honestly can’t think of anything I didn’t like about this book. Well, except that I wanted to find out what happens to some of the other Loreans who got abducted by the Order. I am gnawing on my knuckles to find out what happens between Melanthe and Thronos, and I really want to know more about Declan and Regin. Good thing I am reading Dreams of a Dark Warrior next month.

Kresley Cole, you kick paranormal romance butt and take names. You and the WARDen usually go neck and neck for this reader, but this book puts you in first place now. I’m not just being flattering when I say that my life is so much richer since I started reading your books. I have so much love for the Immortals After Dark series! (Off to fondle my copy and add it to my bookcase with my other beloved IAD books).

Just finished Demon From the Dark - I really liked it a lot, it's now one of my favorites of the series - I loved the dangerous, yet vulnerable Malkom. I was amazed by how much emotion was packed into the book - there were some heartbreaking moments that even had me a bit teary. It was also neat that we get a glimpse at so many of the upcoming pairs - can't wait, want them now:)

Malkom and Carrow.... I love how we watch Carrow go from raucous party girl to caring female. Lovely seeing watching her grow, and in the end, she actually feels an small burst of joy from herself! For the first time in her life, she was happy. I loved watching Malkom rise from his past and overcome everything else, including his reasons not to trust or love Carrow.

quello che odoro in lei non è solo la fluidità di scrittura, la sua capacità di descrivere sentimenti, azioni, emozioni ma è la sua capacità di portare avanti una serie basandosi non solo sulle singole storie dei personaggi ma soprattutto sulla storia base, sulla storia di partenza.
tutti i libri si intrecciano e si congiungono, anche se in diversi spazi cronologici e temporali, tutti ins...more io sono innamorata della Cole, e con questo capire tutti che la mia obiettività è andata a farsi benedire XD

tutti i libri si intrecciano e si congiungono, anche se in diversi spazi cronologici e temporali, tutti insieme. tutti questi capitoli sono tutti fondamentali corollari di una storia di base che coinvolge tutti, e lei non trascura niente e nessuno. lei ogni volta aggiunge nuovi personaggi e quindi la domanda sorge spontanea: ma questa serie prima o poi avrà una fine? lo scopriremo solo vivendo.
tornando al volume in questione: semplicemente BELLISSIMO.
Carrow io l'ho adorata, forte, simpatica e divertente, anche senza poteri è comunque una forza della natura. si fa carico di responsabilità che non le appartengo, compie scelte difficili, ama e soffre tutto con molta dignità e coraggio. mi è proprio piaciuta. anche la scelta più difficile che ha dovuto compiere per me è stata la scelta giusta, io avrei agito probabilmente nello stesso modo, tenendo conto delle condizioni (se malkom fosse stato in grado di capirla probabilmente sarebbe stato tutto diverso).
malkom io l'ho immaginato esattamente come viene descritto, un bellissimo Dio. non solo fisicamente meraviglioso ma è anche straordinariamente dolce, forte e sensibile. mi ha fatto una tenerezza incredibile e mi è piaciuto veramente molto.
quello che adoro in tutti gli uomini di questa serie è la loro devozione assoluta verso la loro compagna, la cole ha costruito un mondo in cui le donne hanno libero arbitrio per i propri sentimenti, gli uomini no. qualsiasi razza, che sia vampiro, demone o lycan ha una sola compagna predestinata e solo ad una è riposta la loro completa devozione. e solo da questo si capisce che la serie è scritta da una donna.

Per fortuna la Leggereditore ha smesso di tradurla alla cavoletto di Bruxelles, permettendoci di leggere questo romanzo in tutto il suo magico e vemonico splendore.
A me, questa serie, piace da impazzire. Mi è piaciuta anche nelle sue traduzioni peggiori ma qui, con questo libro a questo punto della serie, sono andata in visibilio, brodo di giuggiole super concentrato.
Cronologicamente attaccato al volume precedente, ritroviamo la strega Carrow - che era stata rapita - prigioniera di un gruppo di umani. Questi soggetti - schizzati uno peggio dell'altro - non solo sono a conoscenza dell'intero Lore e delle sue creature, ma si sono prefissati uno scopo malvagio: rapire ogni rappresentante delle diverse specie, studiarne le capacità e renderli inoffensivi.
Carrow rimane rinchiusa nei sotterranei finché il malvagio cattivo cattivissimo decide di usarla come esca per il nonplusultra del Lore: il vemone Malkom. In cambio della libertà sua e della piccola streghetta adottiva, Carrow viene spedita nel deserto per convincere Malkom con le buone o con le cattive a seguirla e a farsi catturare.
Appena Carrow cade dal buco temporale comincia lo spasso: in uno scenario alla Dune, la povera strega si trova ad arrancare in stivali con il tacco, minigonna e niente acqua in mezzo ad un deserto roccioso popolato da creature orrende e reietti del Lore. Sono morta dal ridere. Io non ho idea di come faccia la Cole a inventarsi personaggi così spassosi ma lo fa, e lo fa bene. Ho adorato Carrow, arrogante ma complessata, desiderosa d'amore e mercenaria. Spassosa, tipica strega del Lore ma anche - stranamente - umana, forse l'eroina più umana di tutta la serie.
Poi entra in scena il vemone Malkom e, bhé..., si sbava. Fino ad ora la Cole ci aveva abituate a vampiri, demoni e Lykae supergnocchi ma con lui ha unito i vampiri e i demoni e il risultato è di una potenza nucleare. Malkom beve sangue, ha le corna e l'aggressività dei demoni ma dentro...dentro è un cuoricino spugnoso che si vuole inzuppare di ammore zuccheroso. Malkom è solo da sempre, privo di qualsiasi fiducia nelle sue qualità a parte la forza fisica, non ha amici, viene disprezzato o temuto, non ha idea di cosa significhi avere qualcuno che si prenda cura di lui...Malkom fa tenerezza.
I due, come coppia, sono perfetti: nemmeno l'ostacolo della lingua (lui parla demone e lei anglese) può limitare la loro relazione. Scene spassosissime, tenere e passionali, dialoghi quasi inesistenti nella prima parte che lasciano spazio all'introspezione di Malkom e Carrow. Poi, con lo spostamento dell'ambientazione e il patatrac tra i due si cambia un pò il registro, ma la Cole è riuscita a mantenere lo stesso ritmo e lo stesso livello fino all'ultima pagina.
In più, oltre ad esserci la coppia perfetta e i personaggi secondari che adoro, abbiamo un primo vero assaggio dell'Ascesa. Finalmente capiamo cosa succede quando i membri del Lore sono tutti sotto lo stesso tetto e cosa combinano quando i buoni e i cattivi si prendono a botte! E' troppo poco, ovviamente, ma prima o poi arriveremo all'Ascesa vera e propria e allora saranno botte da orbi.
E nel frattempo la Dorada continua a deambulare alla ricerca del suo anello e di Lothaire... (less)
