5 Stars...

This 5 Star rating isn't because the fine author of this book personally mailed me an advanced autographed copy or because of the fact that she has taken the time in her busy schedule to correspond with me in emails. Oh no indeed....

This rare 5 Star rating from me is because Eve Silver's on her way to becoming "The Queen of Goth" in Historical Romances. She has a way of making the dark underlying love of not your average everyday Lord and Lady shine from page to page. She makes you fee...more

Excellent mix of romance and dark, gothic mystery; even though I felt sure I had guessed the answer to the mystery puzzle, the answer managed to take me by surprise in the end. Plus, I loved the marriage proposal:)

Great book with fast plot, witty dialogues, clever strong heroes and interesting secondary characters. Not much in the steam department, but I enjoyed the sexual tension that too many modern books seem to be missing, and their one and only love scene. Highly recommended to fan...more

For about the first quarter to half of this book, I was puzzled about the book being deemed a "historical romance". It seemed more along the lines of a dark mystery with a possible romance side plot. This was my first book by Eve Silver and boy, does she know how to ramp up the spooky factor using atmosphere.

There are several mysteries going on throughout this book:

1. The heroine, Catherine, has a horrible secret and harbors a deep pain. What is her secret?
2. Catherine's friend, Madeline's, hea...more

Eve Silver has written has out done herself with her latest gothic Seduced by a Stranger. This story kept me guessing until almost the very end! Seduced by a Stranger is without a doubt, her most terrifying and thrilling gothic to date. I was intensely drawn to the shadowy, tortured hero and the courageous heroine. This novel is guaranteed to scare and shock you with deliciously twisted turns and a diabolical m...more

Eve Silver writes dark books. This is no exception. I don't expect to laugh when I read one of Eve's books, but I do expect to be enthralled with the dark, damaged characters searching for redemption and love (even if they don't know it yet) and Eve's incredible talent for writing a gothic atmosphere so palpable you can almost see the fog rolling in or feel the edge of the sharp blade the villain wields.

The heroine Catherine is summoned to help her friend Madeline who has fallen very ill. Along...more

Recommends it for: gothic romance fanse
After having read and loved Eve Silver's Otherkin series, I decided to purchase Seduced by a Stranger. This book is not a paranormal romance but a very dark and twisty gothic. The grim tone is set at the very beginning of the book with the heroine, Catherine Weston, buried alive and slowly being crushed to death until rescued by another child, Madeline St. Aubyn, who also attends the same school. Then in another scene the reader is exposed to a budding serial killer. A few readers may find the v...more

I was in the mood for Gothic, and picked this because it was supposedly steamy (which I was also in the mood for). However, it was disappointing, because it was mostly really gross with detailed descriptions of nasty crimes. More bloody than steamy, I'd say. Took me a long time to read it, because I could only take so much at once, and was generally reluctant to return to it. Hero and heroine are also chockablock with personal issues and scars (literal and figurative) from their respective terri...more

If you haven't read an Eve Silver Gothic historical, I would urge you to pick one up. She is simply an amazing story-teller. I have not read any thing that compares to the eerie tone that she sets in each of her books. She is one gifted author in the art of making your eyes widen, your blood curdle, your skin crawl, your heart to beat in anticipation, as each scene unfolds, engaging you further and further into the disturbing plot and the lives of each of the characters.

Without a doubt, Seduced...more

Catherine Weston has been asked by her childhood friend Madeline St Aubyn to visit her at Cairncroft Abbey, to keep her company while she is not well. On arrival she meets Madeline’s cousin Gabriel St Aubyn – Madeline does not like her cousin at all and tells Catherine not to trust him but Catherine’s gets other vibes from Gabriel and before she knows it she is drawn to him. When he kisses her she realizes that she has never felt like this before.

Gabriel has had a haunted life, he trusts no-one...more

I’m not typically a fan of gothic romance but I found this book to be really intriguing. Both Gabriel and Catherine had similar personalities but I felt Gabriel was a bit more cold hearted. I liked the conversations they had, it showed a different side to both. I really wanted to see how this couple would get together and if they were willing to open up and share their stories with each other. The mystery for both characters was amazing. I liked how the author divided it up into parts that way b...more

A darker, different romance. Catherine and Gabriel are wounded souls, who had to make difficult choices in order to survive. I liked them a great deal. The charactures were great, the story interesting, the mood dark. However , it took too long to get to the romance and when they finally get together the story is over. The conclusion was very abrupt. Seemed the ending was rushed while the beginging was too drawn out. Too much time in the killer's disturbing mind. Reminded me of Anne Stuart.

What to say about "Seduced by a Stranger"?

Eve Silver sure knows how to write 'gothic'....right from the beginning there's tons of creepy atmosphere, shadows, whispers. You can almost feel the cold and damp!

However, the mystery isn't all that hard to figure out, and the "twins" plot device is a little over the top to be really credible.

But Catherine and Gabriel are an interesting pair, and it's nice to see them get their HEA.

This is a gothic romance with an Evil Twin! How cool is that.
Truth to tell, I read this slowly because it is written rather intensely. The hero's "tortured past" was almost too much for me.
I had doubts at the beginning on how Gabriel could be a credible hero -- he seemed almost too damaged. But by the end I was rooting for them.
This is the first book I've read by this author -- I am going to try her other books now.

This is my first Eve Silver book and I did not really like it half the book was real slow!!!!!!!! Which board me out of my mind I really couldn't get close to the H/H in this book there was allot of suspense which was good but overall I didn't like the book I guess I'm just not into Dark Gothic Romance but you guys can give it a try and see for yourselfs

Happy Reading =)

I did not like this book. I found the characters unsympathetic and the plot convoluted and unengaging. I did not care about these characters or their problems. I almost put it down and unfinished, but I kept on, skimming most of it, just to find out that I was correct about who the murderer was.

I probably would have liked this book a lot better had I not spoiled myself by glancing at the reviews first. A nice mix of genres: romance/historical/psychological drama. Neat twists and turns.

I actually didn't finish this one. Got about 2 chapters in and after failing to pick it up again for days, it annoyed me enough I skipped to the end. Just not to my taste. YMMV.

It´s just too depressing, i can´t finish it atm. Maybe at a later time when i need something dark, gothic and that feels like an old movie.

This was a different romance with a gothic feel to it. It was equal parts romance and mystery and both done well.

Set in England in 1812, this novel has a dark, gothic feel to it. One of the better books I've read by Eve Silver.
Louisa
Great book, I liked the secrets and the lies, and the way that we learned things, it was really nice!
