Looks like this book is a sequel to "Kiss and Hell" which also happens to be my favorite book to date from Dakota Cassidy. It was way better than her accidental friends series!

My Review:
Okay, it's no secret that I love Dakota's writing. She has such an incredible wit, snark, and sense of humor that comes through her writing in pretty much every single book. This one was no exception. This is book #2 in the Hell series. I haven't read #1, but that didn't take away from my enjoyment of this book at all.

Okay, it's no secret that I love Dakota's writing. She has such an incredible wit, snark, and sense of humor that comes through her writing in pretty much every single book. This one was no exception. This is book #2 in the Hell series. I haven't read #1, but that didn't take away from my enjoyment of this book at all.

Marcella was a demon and reviled by pretty much everyone, except her bff, Delaney, because of that fact. As a result, Marcella has erected this huge facade of a personality that depicts her as shallow, snarky, and harsh, which keeps most people at an arm's distance from her. Which is fine with her. She has learned over her very long life as a demon (76 years) to not get attached to anyone because they are just going to die. BUT, she gave up her life to save her best friend Delaney and the love of D's life, Clyde (this happened in book #1) and now Marcella is existing in a plane of nothingness as a ghost. She's been trying to get out for 3 months so that she can get word to Delaney that everything is okay and that it's fine, Marcella is okay with this existence. She just wants Delaney to not worry and go on with her life.

Kellan is Delaney's hot brother. Marcella has had the hots for him for 10 years, but he despises demons and has basically spit on Marcella her entire life. He has just inherited Delaney's skills as a medium so he's the only way that Marcella can contact Delaney. Through a twist of fate and some maneuverings by Delaney, Kellan & Marcella have agreed to work together to find a solution for her ghostly-being.

This book had a FABULOUS character arc and growth for both of the main characters, Kellan & Marcella. Marcella has acted the shallow, bitchy part for so long that it surprises her when others start to get through that facade to what is actually underneath. This girl is tough with a capital "T"...she has been through so much and continues to get up swinging. I LOVED HER character!! She is just the kind of kick-ass chick that all of us would love to be able to channel under certain situations. She ALWAYS has a smart-ass comment and she doesn't let anyone else's snide comments to get to her.

On the other hand is Kellan. *sigh* God, I loved him! He's normally a school teacher simply because he adores kids. He's had to give that up temporarily while he is trying to sort out the medium/ghost skills that he has suddenly inherited. He has never liked Marcella simply because she's a demon, but that hasn't kept him from lusting after her. I LOVED the fact that it was his original lusty daydreams about her that brought her forth from the expanse of nothingness where she was trapped. He is such a sensitive, caring guy in a really sexy shell. I loved how he realized his mistakes about judging Marcella slowly throughout the book. BUT he is used to butting heads with her, so he doesn't think twice about calling her on her shit.

This book was so good and fun! There were some fabulous twists in the plot that I loved...a bit of suspense, TONS of snark and wit, and some fabulously hot romance! LOVED IT! Another Dakota Cassidy winner!!!

I recently read and enjoyed Kiss & Hell so I was really looking forward to this and it didn't disappoint. If anything I actually enjoyed this more than its predecessor. Marcella and Kellen are more fun than Delaney and Clyde, and the love/hate banter they have throughout the book is hilarious. Marcella is adjusting to being a ghost after being a reluctant demon, and finally all the hints about how someone who would sacrifice themselves for a friend in the last book could end up as a demon are revealed. I also liked how the attraction/repulsion between Marcella and Kellen was carried forward from Kiss & Hell.

The supporting characters are great and become key to the storyline very quickly. Delaney and Clyde return with small roles, as do Mrs Ramirez and Delaney's ghost dog Darwin. Mrs Ramirez's grandson Carlos is a big part of the book as a young medium who is being tormented by demons. I actually liked how this storyline was played out alongside the romance as it really gives the book depth. The storyline also moves a bit faster (though still at quite a leisurely pace) because of this. There's also a new reluctant demon Catalina, who I would love to see in her own book.

The only thing that bugged me a little about the book is that I figured out the connection between Marcella and Carlos quite early on, but I didn't figure out the specifics so I was still a little surprised.

All in all, this is a fun and highly recommended read.

The way various characters talk grates on the nerves (main character included, which is why it was so irritating--but nothing, absolutely nothing, can beat the sheer idiocy that is Uriel speaking) and there is one pity party after another (for all Marcella says she isn't the crying type, she does it a lot).

My Way to Hell is the second novel by Dakota Cassidy in her new Demonic Romance series. This book picks up after the event in the first novel Kill & Hell started the character off. This book is a good paranormal romance with a lot of fun comical elements that contributes to make a overall interesting and intriguing story.

Marcella Acosta is a demon. After a battle with Satan, she is reformed and condemned to the in-between place, neither heaven nor hell. She can’t just snap her fingers and escape from “Plane Drab”. She needs a medium to summon her specifically. Without somebody’s help, she’ll never be able to tell Delaney, her best friend, that she is okay. Her sacrifice was worth it. Easier said than done because she finds out many of these so called experts are charlatans. And then Kellen, her best friend’s brother, accidentally pulls her into the living realm. Only she’s without any abilities, control, or material form. Kellen hasn’t been having an easy time of this ghost whisperer stuff. Because of Delaney’s death (even though she was brought back to life) his ability to see dead people is not the wonderful and fulfilling experience his sister had. What’s more he can touch them, and they can touch him. Not even his sister had that ability. It’s probably why he missed the signs when Marcella gave him her message because when they hold an impromptu séance, sure enough she pops in.

Now that she’s passed on her message, she’s stuck in our realm with a strange need to help a little boy, Carlos Ramirez. And surprise! He can also see her. However while she searches for a way to return to Plane Drab, while she helps Kellen communicate with ghosts without getting punched, while she finds out why she has an irrational urge to help Carlos and his family, she has to fight her growing attraction to Kellen. When she was alive and in demon form, she kept her distance by sparing with him. Now he’s being nice, and it’s even more of a turn on.

I had fun time reading this novel. The language is light, fast and easy to read. The scenes and conclusions start becoming predictable, but that didn’t matter. I still wanted to read because the author made me believe that there could be a happily-ever-after for Marcella and Kellen.The characters may start out shallow at first but an unexpected depth quickly becomes apparent in them. This is the first book I’ve read in this series, but it was easy to get caught up in the characters and like them. Once Kellen asked the question, I was curious to find why Marcella was a demon. For a more enjoyable time and a better understanding of the characters you might want to start with the first book in this series Kiss and Hell where you will first meet these characters.

I can’t tell you enough how much I love Dakota Cassidy’s writing people! The love scenes are hot & the snark is true to form in the second installment of the Hell Series.

This is Dakota Cassidy’s best writing to date! The writing flows so together seamlessly be it the humor or the serious subject matter. The characters are well established right from the beginning and so well detailed it’s like they are people you know in real life. Darwin (the dog) is my absolute favorite character in the book, since he can posses bodies in order to speak to Marcella. He actually possess the body of a transvestite that had me laughing hysterically.

Kellen and Marcella are one hot couple let me tell you, they love to hate each other and when they learn to like each other, it’s straight hot passion. The plot line is great because you really don’t know whats going to happen next, there are just so many faucets to My Way To Hell. It’s a great balance of humor with a fast-paced plot line that kept me hooked to the very last line. Kudos Ms. Cassidy for making me snort & making me feel guilty for judging Marcella in Kiss & Hell, the first novel in the Hell series! My Way To Hell is my favorite Dakota Cassidy book to date, can’t wait to see what’s next!(less)

This is the second book in a series, but it's been so long since I read #1 I think I can say it could be enjoyed as a stand-alone too. In this book we focus on ex-demon turned ghost Marcella and her BFF's brother Kellen (aka her love interest).

definitely a good sequel to Kiss and Hell... it was funny and light... and had everyone you loved back... and even Darwin the dog... who was probably the coolest character... i would definitely recommend this to anyone who liked the first one it helps finish off the story of what happened to Marcella and more on how she became a demon because i know it bugged me because she definitely seemed like a good person and you wonder what made her choose the dark side... it's really sweet and full of hop...more

I read the first book, Kiss & Hell in this series/duology/whatever Dakota plans to make it in 2009 and gave it 4★. I thought it was a stand alone, so I was happy when I spotted this one last year. I didn't re-read #1, but did remember the basic gist of it, I also remember it having plenty of giggle, if not LOL, moments. This one, however, did not. There were a funny great one-liners (see below), but overall, not as LOL funny as the first. I didn't have re-read #1 (and thank the book/time Gods that I didn't) because the characters constantly chatted about the events of book 1. As for what it's about, the GR blurb says it all, no differently than I would:

After numerous failed attempts to contact Delaney through a bunch of hack mediums, Marcella's at her wit's end. But there's one medium she's hasn't tried yet, and he just happens to be Delaney's scorching hot brother Kellen- the one guy who never gave Marcella the time of day.

The characters I enjoyed in book 1 only drove me batshit crazy in book 2. The way she had them talking was probably meant to be funny, but felt like bad ghetto-speak. The fun, sexual tension between Marcella and Kellen from book one just wasn't felt in this one which is sad b/c they're the two that make up this PNR's HEA.

Overall, I'd recommend readers go for Dakota's Accidentally (AKA: Accidental Friends) series instead of bothering with this one (or stop after #1). AF continues to get me laughing, whereas this one had me rolling my eyes and huntin' around for the fake finger gun (to put me out of my misery) from page 2 thru to the end.

Favorite quote: (There was a lot of banter between Marcella and Darwin. Some of which was enough to make me LOL, some made me crack a smile, while others had me rollin' my eyes and wishing they'd move along. It started to feel more like "how funny can I make the character's banter" instead of "how can I can write witty, funny character convos while writing a good story".)

The Setting -- is New York. Actually, if you've read Kiss and Hell, Delany has moved out of her old haunt and her brother Kellen has moved in. But he's inherited more than just his sisters space!

The Characters -- feature Kellen and Marcella from Kiss and Hell, both of whom played fairly important roles in the first book. There were plenty of teasers and indications of these two's real feelings for each other in that book to have fans on pins and needles wondering what was going to happen! Both characters are complex; it seems Dakota's characters are becoming more multi-faceted. Kellen comes into the book with all of his old prejudices which must be addressed before he can handle his new gifts and accept that Marcella might not be the demon he thought she was. Marcella, that sassy Latina demon who sacrificed herself for her best friend, has more layers than an onion! I'm not going to go into it - because I'd ruin it - but she steals your heart. Ages ago Marcella gave up herself for something very dear and important - a sacrifice that you might need a tissue to get through. Also in the book is another demon, Catalina; I'm dying to know what the deal is with her and Damael - and secretly hoping Dakota is locked away writing that story - cuz daaannnnnggggg! Oh! And Uriel is back; your favorite hang-ten angel.

The Plot -- like the characters is complex. There's more at stake than just Marcella finding some way to get off of Chez Drab, not to mention establishing what she is now. There's Kellen figuring out his new medium abilities. And there's a kid in danger. Oh! And there's romance. I liked My Way to Hell because the characters both came into the story with very deep seated reservations about the other which were born out of dramatic personal experiences. I could believe their motivations in acting the way they did, but you could drive a semi through the void of space that is everything they don't really understand about the other. It's the story of two characters handling years of misconceptions and dark secrets and still finding it in themselves to love - and save the day.

Yes, I will fully admit that there are aspects of Dakota's books you expect - but that's why you love her books. You pick up her book, it makes you laugh and believe in a good side to humanity and that big, magical if there were really.......(less)

My Way to Hell is a sassy return to the world of Dakota Cassidy’s Hell series. While it’s a bit slow at the start, when My Way to Hell gets rolling it is sure to sweep you off for one heck of a ride. Kellen is an oh-so-sexy hero who knows enough to admit it when he’s wrong and once he becomes determined to win over Marcella…Grab. A. Fan. Marcella’s lost a bit of her spirit from the first Hell book, Kiss & Hell, but given all she’s gone through and the things she faces in My Way to Hell (and no, I wouldn’t dream of spoiling the book by giving away what), I’d be surprised if she weren’t a bit more subdued. I liked both Kellen and Marcella, and the plot of My Way to Hell kept me entertained, yet I couldn’t help but to compare the energy of this book to Kiss & Hell and found My Way to Hell lacked that indefinable spark of life its predecessor possessed.

I supremely enjoy Ms. Cassidy’s Hell series and am definitely hoping there are more books to come. For those who have not yet read Kiss & Hell, My Way to Hell can be read as a standalone, but be warned you’ll find many spoilers for the first book in it. All in all I enjoyed My Way to Hell. It’s got Ms. Cassidy’s trademark spunky dialogue, a cast of loveable characters (oh yes, my heart did flutter to see a return of that surfer boy archangel Uriel), and a very intriguing ending. A self-proclaimed fashionista, Marcella revels not only in the singe of a well thrown fireball, but the rush of a one-day sale at Macy's. Unfortunately, after going up against Lucifer, she finds herself tossed onto a plane-in-limbo. Not a mall or salon in sight, no ability to mosey back and forth between hell and earth, and no way for her get in touch with Delaney. At least she THINKS there's no way, until good ole' Darwin (the ghost of one of Delaney's many dogs) reminds her of the one person she hasn't tried to reach. Someone she mixed with like gasoline and firecrackers, despite her attraction to him. Delaney's brother Kellan.

Dakota writes with equal parts snark and sincere emotion and it works so well for the story. These characters are up against some heavy-duty supernatural ugliness, but manage to hold their own for the sake of a young family friend with the "gift of sight". There were also quite a few surprises tossed in, having to do with Marcella's tightly guarded past. Just when you (and when I say you, I mean, I) think you (again, I mean, I) have it all figured out... think again. In the midst of all the craziness, the story of her demonic beginning will tug at your heart and maybe bring a tear to your eye (yeah, that would be me, again). The action between the many minions of hell and Marcella's crew is full of both ass-kicking and snarky comment slinging.

Now, back to Kellan. The yummilicious brother of Marcella's best friend, who has "inherited" the ability to see ghosts. In Kiss & Hell, the banter between Kellan and Marcella was fun to read, and the attraction was clear. In this book, it's obviously stepped up on both counts. The push and pull with these two is at the same time comical and endearing. Once they stop fighting and admit they want each other, they're hot enough to give hell a run for it's money.

The side characters in this story are just fantastic. Between the ghostly, smarth-mouthing of Darwin, who I absolutely adore, and the tough-but-tender-hearted demon Catalina, there are laughs and action aplenty.

My only issues with the book are minor. First, I have no problem with clowns, so what was supposed to be an important fight scene lost some of it's punch. However, if you DO have a problem with clowns (and I know quite a few people with that phobia), it should have it's intended impact. Second, and I'm being picky here, the overuse of the terms "hard planes" and "cupped" got on my nerves. I know, I know, it's a silly thing to even notice, but I did, and it bothered me. I'm guessing most people will be fine with it, but I have an annoying part of my brain that picks up on repetition.

Overall, I really, liked the book. I had a feeling I would, and was not disappointed. I love Dakota's storytelling style, I love her humor, and I love her characters. Do yourself a favor, take a day off, grab some snacks and your favorite summertime beverage and read this book (read Kiss & Hell first, if you haven't already). It'll be a day well spent.

It was as good as the first book in the Hell series by Dakota Cassidy. Witty as always and had it's really funny moments. Marcella is as sassy as always! And great to see the atraction that has been going on since the first book between Marcella and Delaney's brother Kellan blomming into more in "My way to Hell".
A possbile third book the girl that had a mysterious past with Damael? I really want to know what's the deal between these two...*wink*

My Way to Hell was absolutely hilarious!
Marcella was a snarky woman, and her conversations with Darwin were the bomb! ;D And Kellen's fantasies? LOL.
The drama and mystery in this book was also very exciting and the twists were awesome!
My Way to Hell was a good book and I like it but I just wasn't crazy in love with it. I'll be checking out more of Dakota Cassidy's books, though. ;)

This is a book that you really have to of read the first book "Kiss to Hell to enjoy the first third of the book. A lot of referrence to the first book without any explaination. Good characters, but I felt more could been done to the story.

If you read "Kiss & Hell" and want to know what happened to Marcella you should definitely read this book since it's about Marcella.

I obviously wanted to know what happened to Marcella and that's why I read this book. I hoped that we'd get to read more about Delaney but at least there's a little about Delaney in the book.

To be honest, I liked "Kiss & Hell" more than this book. But it was still fun to read since we get to know what happened with Marcella.

I loved this book! Even better than the first! The tension between the leading lady and her love interest! mm yummers! Ate it all up! The leading character definitely has a wicked attitude and lots of back bone! LOVE IT!

Picked this book up recently not knowing that it was part of a series. Even so, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and now plan to invest in the first book in the series. Fantastic paranormal read with romance thrown in as well.

Cute story; sweet characters; weird sex. However, use of "evah" EVERY TIME she meant "ever" became stale. Reading the word even when it wasn't in dialogue made it the lamest word "evah."

I think this authors other series, the Accidental, is much better than this one. I found the first 50 pages to be very slow, it did pick up from there, but the story line was extremely predictable. I knew right away where things were going with Marcella, her past and how things were going to change with her future. Kellen was boring to me and the 2 of them together only mildly interesting. I hope we are done with this series now, but I have a feeling we aren't and the next one will be about Cata...more
