I thought that Joey W. Hill did an honourable job with this book, turning worn-out themes into a rather smart and good story.
Gideon is a vampire hunter, overwhelmed by guilt and grief since the woman he loved was killed by a vampire. Pure tortured Alpha male with a knight-in-shining-armour complex and I can see you rolling your eyes!
Daegan is a vampire, tall, dark and broody (duh), powerful and dominant.
Anwyn is a Dominatrix, owner of a BDSM club and already involved in a relationship with the a...more

Sorry, this book suffers from the Laurell K. Hamilton school of long, verbose sex scenes. It suffers from the cliche "oooo, two alpha males and oh hell NO I AM NOT GAY but ooo, I like it when another male touches me" thang. Maybe that's not a thang, but I find it fairly hilarious.
There was one line, damn, I wished I had placed a marker at the page, which had me rolling on the floor. Wait, I found it. "She'd also seen two situations where two men loved, but never thought of themselves as gay. Sh...more

Kink: bdsm lifestyle/club, hints of m/m
I have read Joey W. Hill since she wrote at Ellora's Cave and have yet to read a book by her that I have not liked. She never takes the easy road and her characters are always fully fleshed out with gut wrenching honesty and emotion which is sometimes hard to read. This book I was not sure I would like because it features menage and it hinted at the two males being into each other along with the girl Anwyn. While I love menage when the two...more

I presume you know what the book is about. I'm letting you know what I liked or disliked about it.
I started the Vampire Queen Series with this book intentionally. I had read the descriptions and excerpts for the VQ series several times but just kept setting it aside, not sure it would interest me. Anyway, I read all the very good reviews of VQ and figured I'd start here and check it out.
I've read the 7 books of Natures Desire and if there's an 8th one I'll read that too. So I want you to know I...more

Book 5 in the Vampire Queen series focuses on Gideon Green (Jacob's vampire hunter brother), Anwynn(Dominatrix BDSM club owner), and Daegan (mysterious hawt vampire!). Without giving away too much detail, Gideon is drawn to Anwynn's dominating side, then is thrust into a race to try and save her while she is transitioning at the hands of a schitzophrenic vamp who is trying to exact revenge on Daegan. This story is very fast paced when it comes to the schemxy stuff. Tho, it does slow dow...more

Yeah I liked this & I didn't think I would.
Hill just has a way of making you really care about the characters.
Just when you think she might be getting a bit cheesy or OTT Hill knows how to insert a bit of dry humor (usually in the form of Gideon calling out Daegan) which keeps it from going all the way over.
I am a sucker for Daegan & interested in how this story concludes.

I really liked the first two books in Joey W. Hill's vampire series. Strong female vampire is a rare thing in fiction even in the 21st century; strong female vampire that can still generate empathy in the reader is even rarer.
I looked to this book to introduce new characters and I was intrigued by this idea of a trio of them with a solid female vampire lead.
I was deeply disappointed.

This is the book that introduced me to the vampire series of Joey W. Hill. Curious about the characters mentioned and keen for more I slowly started to work myself backwards through previous and forward through following books. BDSM is usually not my thing but the sexual tension and the change of the male heros view of sexuality towards other males is intriguing and mirrors mainly a female view of homoerotic phantasies. Setting it in a controlled environment away from daily life and scrutiny ope...more
This book in the series is so different. Gideon is a puzzle to me, he is one of my favorite characters in this series. He is so tortured and looking for something and ends up getting it literally! I loved the triangle Dagean him and Anywyn formed and they are an unstoppable. Anywyn already connected to a vampire ends up getting turned and Gideon gets marked as her servant so the three of them have major issues. I loved watching how all this played out but I felt it was very stop and go for a lon...more
I admit that until I read this I was a Joey Hill virgin. Well, glad to say that is no longer the case. This was an outstanding foray into BDSM, menage territory. While I am not big into BDSM, I can tolerate it more from a dominant female standpoint. Submissive females make my skin crawl, so the heroine, Anwyn was right up my alley. Submissive males are a good thing in the bedroom, as long as they make up for it by being super alpha outside of it, so Gideon Green, one of the heroes, fills the bi...more
Why I read: Received for review from the publisher.
Favorite Quote: “Anwyn.” Daegan caught her shoulders.
The vampire’s command resonated through the bathroom, and possibly the entire lower level. Gideon knew generals – not to mention high school teachers – who would give a left nut to freeze motion and rivet attention as Daegan did with two syllables. Who the hell was this guy?
Favorite Naughty Quote: Daegan set aside the lubricant, his hand still working himself. That glistening tumescent orga...more

I have read Vampire Trinity as well because, lets face it they are one book just divided by the publishers. I really enjoy the emotional intensity of the story but I have a reservation about the HEA. How can a vampire killer EVER be OK with being part of a vampire's annual kill. In Ms Hill's vampire world, vampires have to kill and drain 1 person a year and it has to be a good person, to maintain themselves so even if they were bunny loving softies the rest of the time, once a year a vampire has...more
I just got waylaid by other reading challenges and for a time I found some of the events here dragging that's why it took me 1.5 months to finish this. I still give it a 4 because of the deep emotions that ran through the characters. It's a rarity for me to like all the major characters and Gideon, Anwyn, and Daegan just did it for me. Joey Hill wrote about them equally, each perspective was vivid and sensual.

Great intro for new characters (Gideon/Mistress"cher"Anwyn/Daegan) & new location...(BDSM night club)
complicated situation...human turned vamp against will.
Vampire hunter must work with another Vamp to help her transition.
Great twist/reveal with Daegan...and what he does. Makes me want more of this story!
Good lead into 2nd book...that will further this story & couples relationship.
Gideon who was featured previously...is taking out of his comfort zone & throw into a world doesn't thin...more

I just reread Vampire Mistress and sigh. I do so love it. It was in eager anticipation for September's release. I looooooovalovalova this threesome. I love how both Gideon and Daegan (rrrawr Daegan) are so baffled by their responses to each other. I love the dynamics of all the relationships. It's even teaching me the delicate balance you have to do with a threesome so someone's not superfluous as I navigate my way through a threesy.

Can I give more than 5 stars????
Gideon is a notorious vampire hunter who also happens to be Jacob’s brother-Jacob who’s married to Lyssa (Vampire Queen of the East Clan). Gideon is also a lost, lonely & tortured soul until one fateful night he walks into Anwyn’s BDSM club looking for something but not quite sure what. Anwyn is the formidable Mistress of Atlantis & notices Gideon right away but allows him to basically mow through 3 other Mistresses of the club before she intervenes. Gideo...more

I love anything vampire but was a little iffy about reading this book but boy was I so wrong!!! This book has it ALL!!!! From the first page till the last I was hooked. Joey wrote such an amazing story that she had me feeling so many different emotions that I was in ah! She took me from a high point to low then back again! There are not many authors can do that to me so I am impressed. I will recommend anyone that love to read about vampires, love , and all of the emotions that loving someone pu...more
The fifth in the Vampire Queen series. This is the story of Anwyn, human BDSM club owner and Gideon Green, the infamous vampire hunter and brother of Jacob Green. Gideon is a new client in the club who seems to be searching for something deep in his psyche as a submissive, despite being a very dominant male. He is unable to find his place after numerous sessions until he meets Anwyn face to face and is captivated. Not long after, he discovers Anwyn has a relationship with the vampire Daegan Rei,...more
I love the Vampire Queen series and I'm OCD when it comes to reading a series in order but you could start with Vampire Mistress and you would be ok. There are a few mentions of previous characters in the other books but nothing that will have you lost.
IMO this book has the most emotional tug of war going on between the characters in the series so far. You've got three strong willed characters that is looking for something that's missing in their lives.

What to say about this book? I am not as fond of Mistress/male sub books as I am about Master/female sub stories. Joey has always been able to over come that and get me involved with the whole Domination/submission concept and blurring who is doing what to whom. This story is not any different from those other books. She begins bring you into the story, ease your way to understanding each character and what they are seeking. Anwyn wants someone to be her full time slave, someone she can love and...more
Gideon Green is a vampire hunter who seeks to soothe the savage beast dwelling inside him. Anwyn Naime is the mysterious, sultry owner of Club Atlantis. She is a dominatrix who specializes in taming wild beasts and bringing them to their knees. Daegan Rei is a powerful vampire who is Anwyn's silent "partner." Gideon's life changes forever the night that Anwyn crosses his path. He is forced to open himself in ways he never thought possible. His barriers are tested by both Anwyn and Daegan, and he...more
Bad editing towards the end of the book, such that it seemed like it was an afterthought to make a follow-on book, Vampire Trinity. I found it hard to keep track of who was doing what and at a couple of points, it seemed like part of a scene had been chopped off.
Both books taken together definitely stretch the envelope of horror meets romance - or is it romance meets horror? Anyway, the books taken together make me think of Stephen King, and I can't fully explain why. Maybe it's the "ho-hum" wa...more

Fantastic! I was at first hesitant to read these as although I read a lot of books with strong female leads I usually don’t go for total femdom. The lead in these two books is Anwyn Naime a Domme who owns a fetish club. So I was not prepared to be blown away by this intelligent, sensitive, well written story. But as you may have guess I sit here all agog regretting that it took me so long to read these. Now I will have to get and devour the rest of the books in this series.

--This book in 6 words:
beautifully dark, surprisingly funny, sizzling hot

In order for a book to get 5 Stars it not only has to have great characters (the most important aspect of a book to me), but it also has to deeply effect me. This can mean opening my mind to new things. Or causing extreme shock/pain/excitement. This book did all of the above.

It began quite well but I hate open ends stories so I got a bit disapointe. There's too much description and action suffers because of that. The core of the story is quite good, the topic of menage is handled in a more realistic way than other books, although I found some statements about rape and dominance hard to swallow.
All in all the story is worth reading but by no means I believe this book can become a classic whithin the genre.

Another winner in the vampire series that seems a level above the others. Gideon Greene, Jacob's vampire hunting brother, discovers a woman at her BDSM Club. They seem to connect immediately. She is a Dominatrix and sees a need in him that she believes she can fill. Anwyn also has a close relationship with Daegan Rei, a vampire who stays in her living quarters. This creates some stress with Gideon, who sees no vampire worth saving, except his brother. Daegan's world intrudes when he is not prese...more

Of all her vampire books, this is my favorite. LOVE LOVE LOVE the dynamics and the struggle. The story is layered and twists and I felt so torn for everyone of the characters and what they had to come to terms with. This and Vampire Trinity are top notch erotic fantasy and if that is your thing you wont be sorry

I’ve always had an aversion to reading, watching or hearing interviews of favorite actors, authors, musicians, etc. because so often the real person doesn’t measure up to the beauty of the art they produce. Their politics or religion are distasteful, or they’re shallow and self-absorbed, a vacuous mop-head without a lick of sense. From then on, though I may appreciate their craft or art, it has so...more
