Poison Apple Books: Thrilling. Bone-chilling. These books have bite!

Twelve-year-old Emma-Rose Paley has always felt different from her bubbly, outgoing parents. Unlike them, Emma-Rose has pale skin and jet-black hair, is quiet and moody, and prefers gray weather to sunshine. She also hates the taste of garlic, has very sharp incisors, and loves rare burgers. When Emma-Rose

Emma-Rose Paley is dark-haired, navy-eyed, pale-skinned and just saw her great-aunt turn into a bat. Now, on top of the upcoming school Halloween Dance (which her friend Gabby has pushed her to help plan), and her parents working hard on a major gala for the museum, Emma-Rose wonders if she could be a vampire too.

This Totally Bites! by Ruth Ames is a book in the Poison Apple series, a paranormal version of the Candy Apple series.

Emma-Rose Paley is completely opposite from her family. She has black hair, loves rainy weather, and pale skin. Her dog, Bram, also hates her. Emma-Rose’s mother works at the American Museum of Natural History having a Creature of the Night exhibit that Margo has been a consultant on. When her great-aunt Margo comes to visit, she’s glad to see that she looks like her AND isn’t li...more

This is the last of the Poison Apple books that my niece checked out from the library and I *ahem* stole from her to read. Cute with the message that things (and people) aren't always as they seem, it's a quick read with a funky main character. My niece pointed out within the first few pages that the 12 year old main character dresses the same way I do. I don't know if I should be flattered that she noticed or disturbed that I dress like a tween.

Anyway. These books are written to be very accessi...more

If you have not picked up a Poison Apple book, I highly recommend them. They are paranormal for tweens - very appropriate for the age. Think of Cupcake Diaries with a twist - in this case, vampires.

Emma-Rose Paley is quite different from her parents - not just in the way she looks but in personality as well. She has always been pale with jet-black hair, but she also detests sunshine and garlic. Is this proof enough that she is a...vampire?

This Totally Bites! by Ruth Ames, part of the Poison Apple series of books from Scholastic, is for children in grades 4-6, though it would more likely appeal to girls. Emma-Rose Paley turns 12 and her life becomes something out of a fantasy novel, and readers will have to suspend disbelief, which shouldn’t be too hard with kids who haven’t lost touch with their imaginations. Emma likes things dark and wears black, she likes the rain, and she loves rare meat, but her friend Gabby is her polar opp...more

Lolololol I loooved this book when I was younger. Haha I remember asking my mom to get the book for me and then her calling me up saying that the people at Borders didn't know where the book was so I had to direct this guy and tell him what section of the store and what shelf and where the book was. It was so funny :)
Okay it has been a while since I have read this but basically it's about a girl who's Aunt comes to live with her. The girl figures out that her Aunt is a vampire and she freaks out...more

This book was way less creepy then the first book in the series. Emma Rose thinks she might be a vampire when her Great Aunt visits from Transylvania (who clearly is a vampire) and Emma Rose see's the similarities between them. At the same time she is fighting with her best friend Gabby, which is making her sad. But her belief that she may be a vampire is giving her a ton of confidence. She's making new friends, in charge of decorating for the dance and talking to the boy she likes.

I really lik...more

This book is great! It's mysterious and creepy at the same time. She is a strange girl. Like she hates the sun so she carries a umbrella with her. She also hates garlic on any kind of food. She was adopted and she thinks her aunt is a vampire. SO one time she went to her room and saw bats! Once she thought her aunt was a vampire, she starts to notice weird things happening to her. Like one of the things was she can see at night, her teeth getting sharper, and she can feel what other bats feel. I...more

This totally Bites, written by Ruth Ames. This Poison Apple Book is the second in the series. This book follows young Emma-Rosa as she discovers her family heritage and why it is she is so different from her fun loving parents. She doesn’t want to wear pastels, like her mother wants her to. Emma-Rose is more comfortable in her dark colored cloths and her moody attitude. As always, the Poison Apple series has a great way of keeping the reader hooked on the story and wanting more. This story is pe...more

Emma-Rose Paley doesn't like being out in the sun or eating garlic, she likes her meat rare, she wears black, is pale, and has trouble sleeping at night. Could Emma be a vampire?

This question comes to light when Emma-Rose's aunt visits their family and Emma catches her transforming into a bat. When her aunt arrives, animals start showing up dead in the local park, which hasn't happened in thirteen years. Thirteen years ago was the last time her aunt visited...more

This book is about Emma-Rose Paley. She feels different from her parents.
Like, she loves dark and cold cloudy days while her parents prefer bright and sunny days.
This book will tell how Emma-Rose Paley found out about her Aunt and the history of their
Family and how this will affect of her way of living things.
Anyhow, first you may think this book is a waste of time but if you keep reading
it you will be taken ''in'' and you'll feel excitement of what's gonna happen next.

If you don't like books that involve vampires and topics like that, then this isn't the book for you. I happened to like it, so I recommend it for everyone who likes a good and scary read. It isn't too scary that you would wet your pants reading, but it is pretty suspenseful, ans is supposed to have a scary plot. But, it's more for girls, so if you're a boy and you're reading this, you probably wouldn't like it. To sum up this review, I've got to say, this book has bite! :->

Emma-Rose is a quiet, different kid who learns a dark family secret. Could she really be a blood sucking vampire?! Emma-Rose learns important lessons along the way to finding out the truth about herself--how to stand up for her beliefs and that she's more powerful than she thinks. She also learns the true meaning of friendship. A cute story for the YA segment that has actual "facts" about vampirism sprinkled throughout. Definitely for kids who feel out of place in their own lives, or for those w...more

The only reason I read this book was because it had vampires in it and I'm kind of obsessed with vampires. This book is a quick, spooky read filled with vampires, wild imaginations, best friends, boy drama, and a dance. I loved reading about Emma-Rose and her family. I loved the relationship between her and Henry. I loved how Emma-Rose took charge of the dance and made it something spectacular. And also how she inspired others to stand up too.

I bought this book in a set from scholastic wanting 2 of the books in particular and this book wasn't one of them. But it totally exceeded my expectations and was the best poison apple book I have read. I really liked the main character Emma-Rose, because she reminded me of myself. This book was well worded and wasn't just another book about vampires. I would definitively recommend this book to anyone between the ages 9-14.

I just read this book with Ella. It was a little bit difficult reading for her so we read it together. It was very cute & she's into the whole monster thing right now so she loved it. Some parts were a bit scary, but overall it's just fun. She is going to try to read the other books in the series. According to scholastic this book is at 5th grade level, while the others range between 3rd & 4th so they may be easier.

This book didn't turn out to be one of my favorites of this series, but it was still a good solid read. The vampirism adhered pretty closely to traditional legend, which I appreciated, since that's what I'm most familiar with. The Halloween setting was appropriate, if predictable, and the ending was unexpected, and had a nice twist. I was disappointed and somewhat bored by the way the middle section of the story seemed to drag. I felt like there could have been a few more opportunities for Emma-...more

This is the second Poison Apple books I've read. It was about Emma-Rose who is convinced she's a vampire. It was a cute book and very clean. However, I didn't enjoy it as much as the first book (The Dead End) because I'm not really into vampires. But it did make vampires very "human" and had some good lessons about being a good friend, trusting yourself, etc.

I really enjoyed reading this book! It was great. I'm glad that Ruth Ames - the author - made sure that there were 'real' vampires, but I'm still pretty sad that she didn't turn Emma-Rose into one. I also loved the part where Emma-Rose and Henry were in the library, it was.....I dunno....maybe a little romantic?????

IT WAS really good and especially the part when she thinks she is a vampire and the way they imperviously describe her vampire ways cause peolpe were yelling out palley palley and her great aunt margo was a bat vampire that is why she was elergect to garlic and leaves the house in the day

this book so far is very interesting because you don't know if she's a vampire or not and it's a mystery but so far the knowledge I have of the book gives me clues to believe that she's a vampire(Emma Rose). She likes these different kinds of weathers that a normal person wouldn't.

This Totally Bites is a really good book. Because a girl named Emma Rose has always felt different from her family and friends. For example Emma rose has always hated garlic. But when her great aunt Margo comes to town she discovers a family secret. Could Emma Rose be a vampire.

Review by Shawnee K.

The book was about a girl who has an aunt that is a vampire. So since the girl looks and acts like her aunt so she thinks she's one too. But she finds out she isn't.

I liked the book because I could relate somewhat.

I found this Poison Apple Book more interesting than scary!
This is probably the best Poison Apple book I have read because the main character is so cool and has the same hair colour as me!
Do yourself a favor and read it ASAP! :)
